Yes, I know it's from the Daily Mail.
Yes, I know it's about small boats crossing the channel.
However, that baby is just a few months old. No life jacket of any kind.
Did they make it across safely?.

Would you have intervened and physically taken the baby off them? I can imagine what they would have done to you or anyone.

I do blame all the people involved. However, I am disappointed that police would stand by and watch this behaviour.

I have only read your posts, so someone might have said this already

The reason the French police give is this - when they try and approach a boat in this situation, or indeed go anywhere near it to do anything, it usually result in a panic.

Sometimes there is a crush because of the volume of people trying to get away from being arrested or whatever and that makes any infants or children even more likely to be injured in a crush

Also possible is that someone will get cold water shock if knocked into the water

basically, if the boat is further than knee deep for an adult, everyone on the boat is away and over here now - because the French police won't intervene. Baby or no baby, they will not intervene.

Yes, we are paying them to do absolutely nothing.

I wasn't there. I am responding to an image of a baby in danger. I don't know what the answer is, people are contributing to a discussion about it, which raises all sorts of questions.

Thats a cop out you've posted, saying someone should have done something - would you?

If you wouldn't why did you post?

I don’t understand - illegal immigrants aren’t entitled to anything at all in the UK. No benefits, housing, anything. I just looked it up to check I’m correct and I am. Why are people saying we are the gold standard for immigrants? Want to understand the argument.

This is pretty much bollocks, but I suspect you already know that

CypressMoon · 10/08/2026 19:05

Unblushingly · 10/08/2026 15:53

And do what? Separate those children from their parents and strand them as unaccompanied minors in another country?

This already happens. A friend of mine works with unaccompanied minors from illegal refugee boats. Many of them have been unaccompanied since the start - not the babies, obviously, but very young children, crossing continents alone, entirely at the mercy of ruthless profiteering people smugglers. By the time they reach UK many are suicidal. It's tragic.

That makes no sense. Do people only start discussions about what they would do? Or do they consider responses?
Strange accusation!

Erm parents?? They made the decision to put that poor baby on the boat. Please tell me what conflict is in France that would necessitate risking a child’s life.

I don’t see any evidence these people have said they’re fleeing conflict. Whatever their reasons for leaving home and travelling to the UK, whether economic or otherwise, maybe think about what impulse has made them leave some African country with small children, or possibly pregnant and giving birth in a camp or by the side of the road en route, risking their lives and the lives of their children repeatedly, heavily indebted to people traffickers.

That's absolutely horrific. How on earth can children like that be effectively helped?

Any country they pass through, and especially France where they camp waiting for a crossing, could take them into care if they cared. They don't.

Presumably it is not illegal on the French coast to board a boat with members of your family.

Actually without the correct paperwork, equipmemt amd safety checks it is illegal to operate such a boat in French waters so they should be being stopped for paperwor check and prevented from sailing if they cannot produce it.

Imdunfer · 10/08/2026 19:39

MyPlumHelper · 10/08/2026 19:01

They followed that boat for 9 hours. When it was launched there were only a few people in it. It could have, and should have, been holed in shallow water early on. Instead they let it float for miles up the French coast picking up illegal migrants like a bus calling at a bus stop.

The situation is utterly ludicrous.

OhBotherSaidPoo · 10/08/2026 19:41

Anyone, and I mean anyone, that puts their children in a rubber dinghy and tries to cross the channel should have their children removed. They are not fit parents.

EmeraldRoulette · 10/08/2026 19:42

@Imdunfer the authorities followed that boat for nine hours?

Honestly, I'm amazed they bothered. They don't seem to be doing anything over there.

Really? Where are they? Wouldn't that be a fantastic photo opportunity? A boat full of small children, all alone. Never seen it.

Or are they just ao small you can't see them behind the 25yo men?

Who's paying for that? If they're orphans and all alone who is paying? Or are you saying some people are paying to just to send their kids alone? All of a sudden these men have a conscience and are putting their kids first?

If the blokes have fled its sure as hell not the women paying when they can't work or even leave the house in alone in places like Syria or Afghanistan.

Also why are they being brought to the UK? Surely they pass through several safe European countries?

The boat across the channel must be one of the most perilous parts and totally unnecessaryif the goal is a safe haven? But they're risking their lives going from a safe country to...a safe country?

They knew when and where the boat was launched. They could have sunk it when only the ringleaders of that trip we're on board, at gunpoint if necessary.

Instead they followed it for hours and watched it loaded at points up the cost of France like a bus.

Apparently so. The reports are that they tracked it with coastguard boats to make sure they could rescue anyone that got into trouble. Then they escort it half way, where we pick them up and transfer them to a proper boat.

The French, the UK and the traffickers are running a bus and taxi service across the channel.

Cardemomle · 10/08/2026 15:49

I just looked at that picture and was horrified. There was also a toddler who was already soaking wet before they left Calais.
Why don't the French police intervene, at least to help little children?

Because they don’t care. Once they aren’t in France anymore it’s not their problem.

dreamingofgoodhair · 10/08/2026 19:55

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 10/08/2026 15:46

They should all be sent straight back, except children who didn't choose to enter illegally.

Yep 👍🏻

Very much doubt that the sort of parents who embark on that sort of enterprise would care about the fate of the baby -other than that it is onviously a useful tool for increased ‘benefits’ from the mug British taxpayer.

Edited

That's disgusting and racist to say these people don't care about their own children. That's a separate issue to whether it was a wise choice to make.

‘Racist’ - yawn.
that doesn’t work any more.
People who exploit and endanger their children for monetary gain - of any ‘race’ - are the lowest of low scum.

Oscillating · 10/08/2026 20:07

Cardemomle · 10/08/2026 15:55

True, however surely it's better than that little one being put on a dinghy like that?

Are you queuing up to adopt these babies forcefully separated from their parents?
