VB's dress on Mrs Burnham - horrible

I'm not a fashion expert and I really don't care much for it but this was the most horrible dress I have ever seen. Even on a coathangar bodytype like VB herself it wouldn't look good but on an average body it's just hideous. That's 850 £ unwisely spent. She could and should have gotten a dress from M&S for 50£ and actually looked good.

No Blossom didn't know "it looked like a sack" because it doesn't but "looks like a sack" is the tediously predictable comment to any dress that doesn't "show off the wearer's figure"

I don’t think it looks anything like a sack, that response is tediously predictable when any suggestion is made that isn’t cookie cutter fashion.

That's the point. Women judging what other women are wearing should expect their own choices to be criticised in return, because body shapes vary, and taste and style are subjective. If we are going to judge a woman it should be on what they did, not what they wore.

Do you go on lots of threads that you have no interest in? Surely most people read the title and possibly the op and then decide whether or not it’s something they are interested in.
I am not a fashion expert but like looking at clothes and have an opinion on them, which may well be the complete opposite of other people’s opinion, but that’s the fun.
You and others seem to be telling us we cannot discuss her dress but don’t want to discuss the wider implications of the message it is sending.

Why do PMs see the need to parade with their spouses at all? It’s so dated. Imagine your new boss arriving in the office with their partner in tow. It would be so inappropriate. What are they saying here? I am heterosexual and married so I am better than the rest of you? Also it only applies to the men. The women tend to make the husbands hide in the shadows most of the time because presumably the other blokes would automatically assume he is in charge otherwise? I’m a divorced woman and I’m not aiming to be PM but if in some parallel universe I suddenly seized the reins of power I would be happy to arrive at No10 solo, wearing trousers and Sketchers! At least I could walk properly.

Can singletons be PM? There was Ted Heath and the fingers were pointed at him even when he was dead and buried. Gordon Brown saw the need to be married before taking office. Boris was in the process of getting divorced but his love interests and kids could have taken up most of Downing Street.

I really like the dress @PhaedraTwo linked to, even though it's v expensive. The orange, raspberry or red would have been a much better colour on her given that she is pale and blonde. Even the "almond" one. Long sleeves maybe not the best in a heatwave, but POCKETS! I would absolutely wear it.
