VB's dress on Mrs Burnham - horrible

I'm not a fashion expert and I really don't care much for it but this was the most horrible dress I have ever seen. Even on a coathangar bodytype like VB herself it wouldn't look good but on an average body it's just hideous. That's 850 £ unwisely spent. She could and should have gotten a dress from M&S for 50£ and actually looked good.

The photo that was posted was one moment.

I have seen the footage now, and as she moved about she looked quite nice in it. For some reason that shot was not as flattering as the "live" look. That is actually the opposite of what normally happens with a photo.

It would be great if MN was not so judgmental of women in terms of their appearances.

However my thoughts were that it was nice to see someone wearing a dress they had probably chosen . Fit at the front wasn’t great but fantastic derrière . Very attractive lady great skin and who hadn’t tied up their hair yesterday in the heat ?

I agree as she was moving around she looked lovely, the dress is a very pretty colour. I think the photos were at bad angles.

You made a pervy comment speculating about a public figure's sex life on an Internet forum that has millions of users. The whole thread is a discussion about another woman. Claiming that your comment, and your subsequent arguments defending it, aren't part of the discussion is a bit bizarre.

This depressing thread made me wonder - what is MFvH's/Mrs Burnham's actual crime supposed to be here?
When you come down to the absolute basics of it, and leaving aside whether there is party political trolling on the thread, the accusation seems to be that she is a real 50-something woman and she was visible and had a body made of flesh.
eg OP: OMG a woman wore a dress that I didn't think suited her.
Other anti-dress PPs: OMG a woman wore a dress. She thought she would look smart and sexy for her big occasion but in our view she looked fat and lacking in class (this all inferred within comments about whether VB a suitable designer, whether the dress fitted her correctly or not, how much she spent).
What is even the motivation for this poison?
Is it that the anti dress PPs think she (and AB, but MFvH a convenient symbol for him) have found their way to the top of the heap (eg No10) but they are not the "right" type of people?

What is it with these holier than thou virtue signalling. Commenting on the choice of dress of the prime minister's wife at her first public appearance in this role is to be expected. Saying she is too fat for the dress is not on (did anyone say this)? But saying the style and choice of designer are all wrong for the occasion is perfectly acceptable. Why chose VB? Beckhams are firmly 90s/00s and their brand is all about shallow appearance over honest substance. Beckhams are known for parading and exploiting their children for financial gain, they are image monsters basically, preoccupied with their brand and image. SUCH a weird and inappropriate brand when she had the pick of up and coming British designers who prioritise ethics and a different set of values to the dollar chasing Beckham clan. VB dresses look strange on most and why chose some sort of lilac Disney princess come MoH gown when you are in the important business of being the prime minister's partner. From a semiotic /pr point of view it was a questionable choice, so people question it. They looked like an odd pair, him in formal suit and her in her lilac viscose. As a marketing executive I'd have thought she has more awareness of image management and PR.

It was a terrible dress. She would look great in a lot of dresses so it doesn't say much for the dress design or the choice.

I hadn't looked at it this way, but I agree there are underlying principles represented in the choice of her clothing.

And it would be good to support up and coming British designers.

@sillsimcard I think you've been on the thread since last night when it started. There was a comment saying the dress made her look pregnant, another that she forgot her spanx and another about the type of dress that would suit her which referenced 'larger' ladies.

All this arguing is stupid. Any woman in the public eye will be scrutinised for her clothes, from the Queen to the Kardashians. Newspaper fashion editors write acres of copy about who's wearing what and how much it cost. This is no different, it isn't going to stop. Clothes chosen by people in the public gaze will be scrutinised and written about. She will have to get used to it. Apart from the cost, designer, and her husband's political agenda, I think the dress was ill-fitting and an insipid colour for someone with her colouring. Not flattering but her choice. No personal attacks necessary.

It's not an inevitability. It's not like night follows day. It's in our hands. Be part of the change. Just stop doing it.

It's sexist and unnecessary to be rude about a woman's body (too fat, too thin, too old, too whatever) but's it's completely fine to discuss how she chose to present herself to the country. If the dress was a loan or a gift, she is advertising the VB brand and all the goes with it. If she bought the luxury designer dress for nearly 1k, it stands in stark contrast with Andy's alleged advocacy for struggling working class communities (animal farm etc).

I googled her and she's always dressed in a bit of a quirky way. She used to be very slim as many of us were and she also had a double mastectomy in 2010.
