Bra for workouts

Recently started going to the gym. The only sports bras I have are shock absorbers that I use for running, but I feel it’s a bit of an overkill for gym.

What sports bras are you wearing when lifting weights please? My usual ones are wired so wouldn’t be comfortable for gym.

I also like a shock absorber for running but for non impact weights I have stretchy crop top type sports bras, primark/shein/loads of places sell them. I also bulk buy the foamy cup inserts, tuck them into my bra then wash them separately in a delicates bag. It saves them folding up in the bra and spending ages wrestling with them!

I'm pretty flat-chested but like a tight compressive sports bra or top with a built in shelf. I really like the German brand Women's Best, and have quite a few of their tank tops with inbuilt shelf bra, and a couple of adjustable sports bras, non-wired (I cannot imagine how uncomfortable a wired bra for any kind of exercise would be for me!) I always take out the foam inserts - I don't want padding when I'm training.

But my training sessions always have some sort of metcon as well as strength work, even just as a 10 minute finisher, so I do need something supportive.

I like this:

I wear a vest or tshirt on top - no-one needs to see my white wrinkly midriff.

what size are you and how much support do you need?
I'm a mere DD after weigh loss and generally just built-in bra tops are sufficient for weight lifting. I get mine from Crz Yoga.
If I also plan to do some cardio, Yvette sports has very comfortable non-wired bras.

RebeccaRedhat · 03/03/2026 15:18

I wear my shock absorbers, but they're not underwired. I've tried a few others and I have 1 under armour one i like, the rest I flap about too much but I do classes with lifting rather than just lifting.

I wear the M&S front fastening high impact sports bras - big titty committee over hear, anything else and they’d be hanging out if I bent over! They’re not wired and as comfy as a sports bra can be.

I second CRZ yoga. This one is my favourite but I don’t wear anything over the top as only train at home! https://amzn.eu/d/00AHBWLy

I should have mentioned that I’m 30G, so can’t really wear a T-shirt with a bit of extra fabric. I’d also prefer bras with proper sizing, as I find the S/M/L ones are either too loose in the band or too small in the cup.

Maybe I’ll just head to bravissimo, although I was hoping for something more budget friendly!

check https://www.yvettesports.com/ then - they do D-F range but pretty sure those will also fit a G. I have 30 back and buy their XS.

I'm a 28D or DD which is a lot smaller, but an awkward size to buy, and I've recently found that Adidas have a surprisingly good range of sports bra sizes. The size charts are a bit weird but a lot of their crop top style sports bras you can pick the band size and a cup size, rather than just S/M/L. They have a sale on at the moment and there's some good discounts on the more unusual sizes.
