Home Barbell set

I have given up my gym membership and started using some equipment we have at home. However it's absolutely rubbish. My husband had no idea what he was buying when he got it during covid (and never used it!).
So I am looking to replicate what you get in the gym as closely as I can. We have a squat rack of sorts, which should be OK but I need a proper Barbell and proper plates. Had a look on amazon and most sets only went up to 5kg which isn't enough and the Barbells didn't weigh much either.
Can anyone recommend something. What sort of price will I be looking at? I have no idea what a reasonable cost would be.
I looked in gumtree etc as well but didn't find much.

Have a look on Facebook market place.
People regularly get rid of equipment.
I got a bench, a barbell with plates and 2 dumbell and sets of weights to fit it as well as a couple of Kettlebells. You cam get some good bargains as people want to get rid of what has become clutter to them.

I’d have a look at strength shop as they won’t be selling crap.

In terms of replicating the gym and costs it depends what gym you’re trying to replicate, as the difference between budget gym and powerlifting gym for example will be significant

Decathalon have loads on their website that look decent.

There were plenty on Argos last time I looked.

It depends what sort of weights you want to be lifting. If you’re totally replicating the gym then you could get a 20kg Olympic bar, with the appropriate plates. Otherwise Argos or decathlon do decent barbell/dumbbell sets

I do Body Pump at home and he their (Les Mills) gear. I love it but it was pricey.

A proper set up is generally reasonably expensive OP, we have squat rack etc. from Factory Weights and our Olympic plates are from Legion Fitness. Floor matting is from Mirafit. Hex dumbbells I think we had from Amazon. Facebook marketplace is great for seeing if anyone local is selling anything too

If you’ve got a squat rack, you’ll generally need an Olympic barbell. I got mine from fitness superstore.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I found a 15kg Olympic Barbell that is on its way to me next week. Now I will look for some plates to match it. I'll start with the places suggested. Hadn't really thought of floor matting, so thanks for that too.

What do you mean by a 'squat rack of sorts'?
A standard squat rack is designed to fit a standard barbell, which is a 7ft bar. These barbells will be rated to be safe to hold heavy weight.

The sort of barbells you get at Argos are much lighter and are intended more for home fitness classes like bodypump, they're light enough that you can lift them from the floor to put on your back for squats etc. They won't fit a squat rack, they're a lot shorter, and they tend to be a bit flimsy.

For a proper barbell you're looking at around £100-150 usually, and the plates for these barbells for a set you're looking at £300-500 at least - they will last forever but they're not cheap! If you're wanting to deadlift at home you need bumper plates - the key with these is that the plates are all the same size regardless of weight which is what you need if deadlifting.

Strength shop, primal strength, bulldog fitness are popular brands. Mirafit is at the budget end and is popular for home gyms but their quality varies and theyre not great for customer service/returns. In my experience most items on Facebook marketplace are overpriced or scams (dumbbell set scams are really common)

we have a rival hex dumbbell set 5kg-25kg 2 of each, with the rack i think it cost around £700 but its a really good set and only the price of couple months gym sub for 3 of us
