Hi.
Are these a good idea please?
Very new to this as middle aged and overweight but ready to move up from my 1.5 kg weights 🤣.
Any brand recommendations? - nothing too professional needed!

well, then they wouldn't be dumb any longer Grin

fwiw we have a set of 1, 2, 5 kg which covers most exercises. cheap and cheerful from decathlon.

Mmm, I have a set and they're annoying. They work perfectly fine but I can't be bothered faffing around with them during sets.

Thanks both - will just get a few different ones instead.

I don’t like them. The handle bit is really long to make space for the weights and as a short women I find them too long when I’m using. The regular weights seem more comfy due to the proportions being better.

Another ‘no’ vote. They feel slightly off balance and clunky.

Adjustable dumbbells are generally pretty poor - awkward to change, too bulky to be comfortable for a lot of exercises. You have to spend hundreds to get something decent.

The most budget friendly weights for use at home I'd say would be kettlebells, you can use them for a lot more compared to dumbbells, so you won't 'outgrow' them in the same way.

Adjustable dumbbells are a bit of a pain. They tend to be fiddly and unless you spend a LOT, not very durable.

I prefer having a few sets of hex dumbbells so at home I have 5kg, 7.5kg and 10kg. And a 12kg and a 16kg kettlebell.

I have a set of power blocks, after seeing a you tube trainer using them. My set go from 2 -11kg each, and aren’t as bulky as the other types of adjustable dumbbells I’ve seen. I tend to use higher weights now, so don’t use them as often, but they were an excellent purchase and take up very little room.
