Ruptured Achilles exercise advice

IsTheOffDutyDoneYet · 31/01/2025 10:16

I ruptured my Achilles over the weekend. To say I’m gutted would be an understatement. I am currently in a boot and have crutches and waiting to see the consultant for the plan. Ideally I would like to go the surgical route, mainly for the re-rupture rate being lower than conservative management.

I have been losing weight using Mounjaro, hitting a minimum of 10,000 steps a day and was occasionally going to the gym. I am terrified of putting weight back on being so immobile. I need to formulate a plan to continue to exercise in a different way without using my legs. I just wondered if anyone has been through this before and has any tips/ideas at all please?

Thanks in advance!

Talk to a properly qualified physiotherapist not randoms on the internet. No one here can ethically advise you.

And for weight loss advice, go to the weight loss section of MN. This section is for people who lift heavy weights for fun !

There's a good physio on insta. Ex gymnast who lifts weights too. She ruptured her achilles and has posted all about it and has a rehab program available too. https://www.instagram.com/thephysiofix/?hl=en She has two accounts on insta - thephysiofix and docstacie
