Which weights?

I'm planning to buy sone weights, to start exercising at home with. All I have so far are a set of 3 "hand weights" which aren't really cutting it!

Is there a budget range I can look out for? I've seen some branded sets but bloody hell they're expensive! Also, what selection of weights should I be looking to get for a relative beginner?

Hand/free weights are good to use, it’s how you use them! What weights are they?

What about adjustable dumbells? You screw on and off various weight plates. I think Argos do them. But the Aldi-style 3 kilo hand weights won't do much after about 6 weeks of progressive overload!

The hand weights are have are ok, just not heavy enough, they're a small "ladies" set. So yesthe heaviest is just shy of 3kg and while I may be fat I have horses and sm used to luggingbsles of hay , 20 - 25kg bags of feed and 25 litre water carriers about!

I wouldn't mind some peoper dumbells and a barbell with weights but they seem so expensive!

Have a look on Facebook marketplace, I got some good deals on second hand dumbbells on there. Sometimes gyms sell off old equipment on there, and people are regularly having clear outs of weights they bought then never used.
