Hex dumbbells

I have been doing some you tube dumbbell exercises for few weeks e.g

and feel my 3kg neoprene ones are now getting a bit easy.

What weight should I trade up to, I was wondering about 5kg? Or is it worth going a bit heavier than this and then using a mix of heavier and lighter depending on the exercise?

Also I was wondering if it's worth spending the extra on hex dumbbells over the neoprene ones?

Depends on the exercises really. I use everything from 5kg through to 25kg. Upper body will be lower, lower body higher. Adjustable might be a good option? 3kg and 5kg aren't so heavy so you'll soon outgrow both of those.

I’d get a set of adjustable. Yes they are expensive but worth in investment imo

I go to a gym, so use a range of dumbbells, but just wanted to say Yay! Congrats on needing heavier weights!

I do fitbymik workouts too and use a combo of 4 and 5kg (5kg more for legs) and that’s enough for me.

I use 5kg and 7.5kg at home. PT makes me use 10kg for some moves so I may invest in some of those too.

I use 4 and 6kg which is a nice combo. It is a bit of a mare making a decision though as they are so expensive! One point on the adjustables - don't get a cheap pair! I got the Argos set and thought i was getting a bargain, but was getting so stressed about them coming loose and potentially crushing my head 😱that i stopped using.

Bubbles254 · 25/06/2023 12:37

Thanks all. I don't think I have the budget for the adjustables at the moment so I think I might go for 5 or 6kg I can then get a third set at 8 or 10kg when I am ready.

Does anyone have any views on the hex ones or are the neoprene as good?
