Lifting shoes

What shoes do people wear for lifting? I was thinking I might get a pair for Xmas, my old running trainers put all my balance in the wrong place. Someone suggest Metcon4s which look good, but not sure what the other options are

I got some Adidas The Total shoes a few weeks ago when they had a sale on direct with Adidas. If you keep an eye out they quite often have 35% sales. I think i paid £65.

They are quite wide at the toe which i find lets me set my feet properly. Zero lift in the insole. I find them comfortable enough if i tie them loosely to have on for the whole session (Not cardio) and i just tighten the strap when i need the stabilitiy when deadlifting etc.

Really pleased with them but they are just for weightlifting, they are useless for any cardio

I wear converses for strength training, but when I'm doing deadlifts I just wear my socks.

I’ve got Under Armour Tribase which I like a lot. They’re brilliant for doing most of my training. I take them off for deadlifts too like PP.

Metcon 7s, currently 25% off in the Nike app. Metcon 8s are out now but I haven’t tried them yet

Metcons really are the old faithful but I find it difficult to find a design that I like the look of, which is disappointing.

Ryderwear have nice gym shoes, for both men & women. My bodybuilder DP swears by them. There is a wider choice in the men's section; I would happily order from that range as they look the same, just be aware of sizing as ir siffers between Men & Women. They often have sales so worth looking at the Outlet section Shoes here

Also, Vans or Converse are good - you're looking for a solid, flat soled shoe. I would edge to Vans as you have more toe space than Converse and being able to spread your toes is a key factor in good lifting shoes.

it differs between Men & Women
Typos galore 🙄

TheSausageKingofChicago · 21/11/2022 20:34

I’m no use to you here - I live lifting in just my socks. I like the connection with the ground when I do a good heavy deadlift!
But just as an alternative perspective, give it a try 😊

TheSausageKingofChicago · 21/11/2022 20:35

Yes @bonnielochs - it’s all about the toe spread!

DCIJackieDeering · 22/11/2022 22:44

Thank you, I should just go in my converse, but might see if I can try a couple on. I do often just do socks for myPT sessions, but that doesn’t always work for CrossFit

I tend to wear my running/cardio trainers, which are quite high in the heels. I wonder about Metcons - are they good for a mixed session? With my PT I typically do 30 minutes of strength training - generally either deadlifts or squats, sometimes the sled. Then I do 30 mins of really tough metcon - mostly treadmill running, or stationary cycling, or skierg, with other stuff like box jumps & burpees in between. Not much running outside.

Would Metcons work? I don't have joint or foot problems in the shoes I'm in, but I know in heavy back squats (over 50kilos) I can tend to tip forwards a bit. This is a technique issue which I know shoes won't fix, but on the other hand, lower lift in my shoes might help me feel the weight in my heels (I have 40 years of ballet training, where you never have weight in your heels, to over come!)

RayKray · 23/11/2022 12:23

@WindyHedges yep I think that's what they're meant to be good for, hence the name. My PT said he used them for all round stuff gym stuff although they are particularly good for lifting too.

WindyHedges · 25/11/2022 10:05

Great - thanks for the tip!

coconotgrove · 13/03/2023 12:12

I wear Nike Metcon, but sometimes lift in bare feet, particularly when deadlifting and doing squats with an olympic bar (unless they're raised squats).
