Not, caught something out the corner of your eye or felt a presence, I mean actually seen one, spoken to one etc?

im aware this sounds woo. I don’t think I do believe in them, never seen one but ppl I have spoken to say they have.

maybe some ppl are more receptive to these things or maybe it’s a trick of the mind?

just be interested in anyones experience really

I was staying in a holiday camp chalet with my then-boyfriend and as we were lying in bed, I saw a woman standing next to the bed with her back to us. She had blond pinned-up hair and was wearing a white terry-towelling dressing gown. My boyfriend was freaked out when I told him the next day!

I suspect this was a hypnagogic hallucination, as although it was an odd experience, I don't remember feeling particularly frightened that there was a stranger in our room. But if it turned out that other guests had seen the same thing, then I would wonder if there was more to it.

Struggling to think why a ghost would want to haunt a holiday chalet, to be honest.

No. I do believe though but I’m glad I’ve never seen/felt or heard anything.

My uncle doesn’t believe but he saw a lady in a long black Victorian dress in an old house he was working in. She was floating and the other builders saw it too. They all grabbed their tools and ran. Went to local chippy for lunch and chatted to staff and they said oh did u see her. So it seems she’s famous 🤣 and all the workers refuse to go bk once they see her. He still says he doesn’t believe in them but he can’t explain what he saw 🤷🏻‍♀️

StepAwayFromGoogling · 11/02/2026 13:47

Not at all a woo person myself. I didn't see a ghost but years ago was working in an old building. Holding a load of A6 size tickets in my hand. It felt like someone "pulled" them and they dropped out of my hand. Only I never heard them land and when I looked they hadn't hit the floor. They'd completely vanished into thin air, they weren't anywhere, but there was nowhere they could have gone. Freaked me out. I've no logical explanation for it.

@ELCismyspiritnanaif you look up little Dean house there are lots of reports of ghosts, and the hotel in the village. We stayed there on a school trip in the 1980s and absolutely petrified ourselves!
I do think that sometimes the ghost is an imprint of a strong emotion, hence the ‘feeling’ is often stronger than the ‘seeing’. We stayed in a cottage in France where the old occupants felt like they were still there and confused by this young English family there!!

Thats really interesting! I found in my google deep dive that one of the more infamous ghosts was seen in the village I lived in. I'd never heard of her!
"My" ghost was seen by a nun, of all people, who recounted the tale to me at a shoe fitting, miles away from the scene, and having no idea I had any connection to the place. I've no idea if anyone else saw it, but it's not in any of the searches I've done. Was a spectacular coincidence!

It's the ghost hunters on TV that make me laugh. I've tried watching a few and it's just garbage. Reform voters probably believe in ghosts.

And there I was thinking Reform voters were the ones with closed minds..

Love this. I'd also love any sceptics to explain it away!

I have heard them. DH and I stayed in an extremely old part of a dilapidated French chateau. Every night there was loud banging in the kitchen someone opening cupboard doors and banging them loudly. No one else was there. It was not pipes. We went down to see - nothing.

DH is the ultimate sceptic but even he had no explanation for it either and was also glad to leave.

Was this in Brittany by any chance?

If there was any way that departed loved ones could contact the living with any sort of sign, my mum would have contacted me by now.

My mum WORSHIPPED me. To what was probably an unreasonable degree.

And she's now on a higher plane, sees you're OK, and is working on herself.

I’ve had some very much not ok times. Believe me if she could have she would have been in touch.

That’s not how it works. The burden of proof is on you. It’s not up up to disbelievers.

I saw a dark man at the top of our stairs as a child. He was silhouetted against the sunset in the window of the room behind him. He had a hat on, and the light shone between all the places where his joints would have been. It terrified me and I’ve never forgotten it. I was six at the time - this was the 1980s.

As an adult I once saw mention of ‘shadow people’ and googled and found out about the ‘hat man’ which apparently is a fairly common vision/night terror. I wasn’t asleep though - I remember running downstairs in terror.

Edited

A friend and I both saw a 'hat man' while sharing a room on holiday at 16. Neither of us had heard of the phenomenon before. It was swaying and tapping on the window. No drink or drugs had been taken. We were terrified!

However, I don't believe in ghosts so am forced to believe it was a prank.

She may have been, but you were unable to receive?
Communication from the afterlife is obv not as simple as ringing on your phone or dropping by at home.
Just because you haven't sensed anything from her, doesnt mean it isn't possible.

MoodyMargaret11 · 12/02/2026 10:06

I have a few:
1 - not seen but Heard the footsteps which made no sense as they would "restart" from the original direction (several times) rather than going "back and forth". I was petrified, will never forget it.

2 - seen a spirit guide in my mind's eye and seen something else play out also in my mind's eye (both times 100% awake and not my imagination, it was an actual motion picture).

3 - something flying in the air, not visible but I could see its volume and size as it "shaped" the air. Sorry I cant describe it very well but there was definitely a small flying object. It moved straight through the room and into the next and then gone (windows and doors all closed). I was playing a game on the floor with 3-4 y/o DD and I saw her gaze trace the same object so she clearly saw it too.

MoodyMargaret11 · 12/02/2026 10:15

One more I can think of:

My grandpa had left front door unlocked as he was going to a neighbour's and be back in a few mins. Sleepy village type place, front door opens to porch with glass wall, which then leads to main house. On the inside of that front door was a pin/nail hanging down on a thread to serve as a "lock" (probably before grandpa added a modern key). You have to physically lift the pin/nail up and push through a hole to secure the door as locked. It's one of those very old fashioned things. Anyway, grandpa left and came back to find the door locked with that pin from the inside! There was no one else in the house and not possible to do unless you are INSIDE, have lifted and pushed through the pin. He had to break part of the glass, reach out and pull it out with his hand.

When he told us the story and I said something to the effect of ghost presence, my (ultra intellectual, hyper sceptical) brother immediately said "yeah sure, skip all logical explanations and latch on the supernatural". To which I just replied "ok then, give me one logical explanation please"..which of course was met with silence. My brother still doesn't believe and likely never will, even if held at gunpoint by a ghost 😄

No-the ones with closed minds are the people who refuse to accept that there might be a non paranormal explanation to their experience. “I definitely wasn’t dreaming” “There is no way they could have known” “It couldn't possibly have been rats in the roof space””No, the house wasn’t settling” “No, it wasn’t my imagination” ……

You must enjoy reading these threads though because you find every opportunity to give your superior view.

Yes a lot of people do the above but many do try to find logical explanations and can't. You must know this because many people on these threads say as much, but you conveniently ignore those posts and cherry pick the ones that obviously do have an explanation. Which is a very unscientific thing to do.

OrangeCrushes · 12/02/2026 14:37

Some people want to find explanations-some people prefer not to. Obviously somebody who wasn’t there, or who doesn’t have all the details can’t explain everything. The fact remains that there are no paranormal events that, when properly investigated, remain unexplained. “This is what I saw” is as far from evidence as it is possible to be. Ask a neuro scientist. Or a police officer. Oh, and I do only comment on the stories that have obvious, not supernatural, explanations. The ones that don’t haven’t given enough information.

@SheepInTheTrough
Re the smell of smoking, was this quite soon after your mother died?
A similar thing happened to a friend who was a good pianist and encouraged by his father. A few days after his father died he was practising and he smelt quite strongly the aftershave his father always wore - as if he was standing by the piano like he used to do.

It was a couple of weeks afterwards @38thparallel . I was collecting photos for the order of service for mum's funeral so it was still recent. I hope your friend found the smell comforting. We did.

What did you see please @Lesina ?

Many people saw a hand moving in my previous house. It 'scurried' like a rat.

Several members of our family saw it and so did other visitors. A cleaner and the chimney sweep also saw it and they had no previous knowledge of it. All different times of day and night.

Everyone described it in exactly the same place, moving in exactly the same way.

You don't think it might have been a rat? Occam's razor and all that?

canuckup · 12/02/2026 15:03

I've had a few experiences:

The most bizarre one was with someone else, because they witnessed it too.

In my old job, there were two offices, with a small waiting area as an entrance to them both. So a little waiting room, then two doors to the separate offices.

I was in my office, chatting to a colleague. Someone walked into the little waiting area and straight through into the second office. Bizarre, I thought, if it's my colleague in the other office, they'd usually say hello. Or if it's a visitor, they knock. So I shouted out 'hello??'. No reply. Me and the chatting colleague looked at each other. I got up and went into the second office. No-one there. There was no-one in there! Chatting colleague was as shocked as me.

Both me and the chatting colleague saw some walk into it?!!??

And yes, this was a very old building, a high school. There were a few spooky things there. I was there one night for a parents evening and it was creepy. The teachers offices were right in the attic, which used to be dorm rooms for boarders. You couldn't pay me to go up there once it was dark.

Tdp123 · 12/02/2026 14:54

You don't think it might have been a rat? Occam's razor and all that?

We knew it wasn't a rat for three reasons.

First reason was that it looked like a hand, not a rat. I only said rat to describe the way it moved because it 'scurried like a rat'.

The other two reasons are our Jack Russell terriers who are 100% prey focused and will spot and kill anything rat like before we even see it. They never even flickered when anyone saw the 'hand'.

Was this in Brittany by any chance?

We stayed in an old chateaux in Brittany about 20 years ago and it had a very oppressive atmosphere. I recall hearing clattering noises in the kitchen. It was a small little dwelling and very dark so we barely spent any time in it. I can’t remember exactly where it was located but it was next to a farm. My highlight of the week was the farm cats kittens visiting us in the garden each day!
