Really hoping someone has some knowledge of this because it's freaking me out. I had a very real dream involving a strange man. Felt a real connection with him. And he told me his name. Next day, because the dream just seemed to be on my mind a lot, I idly googled him. Right down at the bottom of the images I saw him. What is even stranger is that we studied in the same place a quarter of a century ago, but I left and moved away the term before he started. We even have some acquaintances in common from way back. I'm pretty sure that I've never even heard his name before as it's a very unusual name. That's one of the reasons I looked it up as I assumed my mind had invented it.
Does anyone have any idea as to how on earth this is even possible?

I had an out of body experience when I was 16. No one believes me that it really happened, but I'm certain it really did. I saw a spirit when this happened. So I'm quite open to this type of thing. I just think if you don't contact him you'll always wonder about it

Loopytiles · 05/09/2024 22:33

I think you’ve either met him, seen him in passing and heard his name, or come across his picture and name online. If you’re both single and you find him attractive it could be fun to contact him!

mommatoone · 05/09/2024 22:38

OP- how are you going to approach this if you contact him? 'I dreamt about you last night, then googled you ,and you are a real human '🤣. I'm not taking the piss btw, I genuinely wouldn't know what to say! Good luck, please report back😬

😂😂This. I have no idea what you say but its too much of a coincidence to not message him. Maybe try adding as a friend first and say it came up as a friend suggestion and you feel like you recognize him but can't remember where from?

baroqueandblue · 05/09/2024 23:12

Take this or leave it, OP, but my bottom line with dreams is ask yourself, "Why me, why this, and more importantly, why now?" And also, whoever he is in 'real life' and however your mind 'knows about' his existence, the important fact is that your dreaming mind used his image/name for a reason that is significant to your inner world, and not necessarily the external world where he exists. That's another way of saying it's somehow far more about you and your own life process than it is about him. That's why contacting him and getting no meaningful response might confuse you. By all means do it if you can't resist, but be prepared for him and/or you to be none the wiser as a result! Personally I would be far more inclined to ask your subconscious to help you understand the wisdom of the dream. For example, the connection you mentioned with your time at university, and the fact that he was someone you were never going to properly know because he came after your time there ended - what might it be regarding how you're feeling about your life now that makes that poignant or somehow significant? Are you feeling nostalgic for that part of your life, or more importantly, things about yourself then that are very different to how you are (or feel about yourself) now. Any grieving for that part of your life/yourself that you might need to do in relation to how you're functioning emotionally, or functioning in some other respect, now?

Whatever it might be, I hope you get to the bottom of it for your own wellbeing.

If you have friends/ acquaintances in common there a reasonable possibility his profile for social media could have popped up in "people you might know" with a photo in one of a variety of platforms, You just didn't notice it at the time. Your brain subconsciously registered it but consciously ignored it. The "memory" then came back to you in a dream, especially as it's an unusual name, you're brain was trying to make sense of during dream state which is what dreaming is known to do, try and make sense if things and decide what to keep and what to throw away, memory and experience wise. It's only that something disturbed you during the dream process which is why you are aware of the dream now and remember it clearly.

He's not on social media. He has a website linked to his work which is in an unrelated area to me. The only reason I know we must have acquaintances in common is that we both attended the same residential educational establishment. I left at the end of one term and moved to the other end of the country, he started the following term. And it was a small place.

I would just say, hello this might sound a bit weird but I had this dream about you and now I've found you in real life. Maybe then say is there a chance we've met before, to take the edge off I admit it's a really funny situation to be in for you OP
Wouldn't it be the weirdest thing if he was just like, yeah I know

It would be extremely freaky!

Don't contact him. He'll think you're a complete loon. Think how you'd feel if someone did that to you. What's he meant to say back?

Yes, I get this.

Yes, I think so too.
This dream was a while ago now. But hasn't left my head.

He’ll think it’s a come-on though so there’s that to consider

Doesn't help that he's really good looking 🤣

This made me laugh!
Have half made up my mind to gently sound out my old acquaintances to see if any of them actually know him. Sending a crazy email out of the blue will probably get me blocked!!

It’s not Tommy Fury is it?

(Disclaimer: I think Tommy Fury is about as unattractive as a man can be. But I know others think differently.)

So I've just emailed him.
Feel a bit better having done something about it. It's out of my hands now! Will update if I get any kind of a response.

Tommy Fury🤣🤣. Bloody tickled me that. It definitely can't be him cos the OP said they were at the same educational establishment. I can't imagine TF being educated!

This is a very likely explanation.

What was the dream about?

He's not on social media!

The dream was weird. On a field trip to a deserted French chateau. With people I haven't seen for years. Plus the mysterious stranger!

@WiggyClawsThe2nd now that is interesting!

i see you’ve already contacted him…I’d be wary if the dream was ominous in any way.

but do keep us updated!

EBearhug · 09/09/2024 16:24

I think you will have seen him at some point in the past, maybe in a mutual friend's photos or something, didn't consciously note it, but your subconscious did and decided to bring it up in the middle of the night.

I refuse to take responsibility for my subconscious...

I'll be interested to see if he replies, though. I have previously told a colleague I was pissed off with him because of how he behaved in a dream, but he already thought I was a bit mad...

Doltontweedle · 09/09/2024 16:30

Tel12 · 05/09/2024 22:11

No, I seriously wouldn't contact him. He'd going to think that you are weird. Leave well alone.

This. Imagine if it were the other way round and a strange man was messaging a women something like this?

Shoesshoes87 · 09/09/2024 16:31

Ooooh can’t wait for an update! 😁

SatansBobbleheadedDashboardOrnament · 09/09/2024 17:03

I'll be really surprised if you get a reply to this. I mean, what exactly is he meant to say!? I'd instantly think it was a scammer and delete.

Mysterweepinata · 09/09/2024 17:17

Brains are indeed odd: I was power washing something the other day and found I was subconsciously singing ‘Jet’ by Paul Mcartney in my head! It humours me when our brains make up puns and connections without us really being conscious we are doing it. I can quite believe you had seen this person years before and your subconscious pulled the image up from your long term memory banks. Why it did it though is fascinating.

Sethera · 09/09/2024 17:32

What is even stranger is that we studied in the same place a quarter of a century ago, but I left and moved away the term before he started. We even have some acquaintances in common from way back.

You probably met him, or even heard others talk about him in the past. You might even have seen, for example, a photo of him in something to do with your old place of study. This will be in your subconscious memory and some random thing will have triggered you to dream about it - probably the random thing wasn't noticed consciously.

MoodyMargaret11 · 02/10/2024 22:44

Did he not respond at all @WiggyClawsThe2nd ?
I was just reading your thread and feeling disappointed for you. If I were him, I'd like to know more!
I was also thinking that perhaps you were both astral travelling, and maybe he'd remember you from his "dream" too. Or that you were meant to meet back in college, but he started late/you left early and now were being reunited in this unorthodox way...But alas! 🤣
Keep an eye on future dreams though, something else fascinating might come up.
