When I was a child, my neighbours had rabbits. I really wanted to see these rabbits but a large hedge was in the way. All of a sudden, I seemed to start rising into the air until I could see over the hedge. I remember being extremely frightened that I wouldn't be able to get down. All of a sudden, I was back in my body with no clue what had happened.
From then on, I've been petrified of heights!
Has anyone else experienced something similar?

No....

DressingRoom · 23/10/2023 17:59

Has anyone else spontaneously levitated in order to see over a hedge? No, but it sounds like a useful skill.

I had a really visceral dream that I could fly when I was a kid. It was so real and so naturally intuitive I was convinced for ages that I actually could fly.

Me too

I know it sounds completely crackers!
I understand that most wouldn't believe me. Nothing like that has happened since thank fck.
It's a very clear memory though and not a dream.

Look up astral projection ... really interesting concept!

funbags3 · 23/10/2023 18:34

@samlovesdilys It does sound very much like this.
It really scared me at the time. I really wanted to see those damn rabbits.

I would also say astral projection. Once many years ago I half popped out of my body and half of my astral body was on the bed whilst the other half was touching the ceiling. Did freak me out a bit!

picturethispatsy · 23/10/2023 19:20

As a child yes this happened to me.

It’s so long ago but I was spinning around and around in a field, sort of dancing as I loved dancing, I felt free and happy and suddenly I felt as though I’d sort of risen up into the air about 10 feet above my body, I briefly looked down incredulous at what was happening then as quick as it happened I was back in my body on earth again.

Never happened since!

EveryKneeShallBow · 23/10/2023 19:26

I’m widowed now, but my DH used to claim to be able to astral project. And to be fair he did once ask a neighbour about something in his back garden that couldn’t be seen from the street, and the neighbour visibly blanched. So, maybe. Or maybe just lucky guess.

funbags3 · 23/10/2023 19:36

@picturethispatsy Wow! Sounds so similar. I remember being so high up that I was scared to death.

It does sound similar doesn’t it! Yes I remember being scared too if how high I was. When I got down I ran to my mum I was so freaked out but I couldn’t really explain it. I must’ve been about 8/9, how old were you?

So strange as I’ve not thought about it for years until I saw your post.

I’ve just been googling it ha ha. Sounds more OBE than AP.

funbags3 · 23/10/2023 19:57

@picturethispatsy
I was 7. Nothing, even remotely like that, has happened since.

I’ve had lucid dreams where I could control the dream and where I could go. Not very exciting but I once had a lucid dream that I wandered downstairs in my parents house and saw my Dad washing up at the kitchen sink, what he was wearing and the exact time on the kitchen clock. I woke up (there was no clock in my bedroom) and went straight downstairs to “check” My dad was in the exact same place wearing the same clothes and the time on the kitchen clock said 9.10am which was the same as my dream.

No nor me… apart from some hallucinogens i took in my teens 😂

Apparently it’s more common in children as they’re more relaxed and in tune with ‘other realms’ (I made that phrase up btw!)

That’s incredible! Can you do it anytime you want to?

Wow! That sounds awesome. Can you still do that?

OP posts:
PurpleGrapesandtea · 23/10/2023 20:15

It’s random, I can still lucid dream and control where I go but that experience felt different somehow, I haven’t had anything like it since.

HildasLostSock · 23/10/2023 20:23

As a child (maybe 7 or 8) when falling asleep I'd feel myself rise up & float by the ceiling (staying in a lying down position) every now and then. I could both feel my body still in the bed and also feel myself floating by the ceiling. Stopped by age 10, I'd forgotten all about it! It happened quite a few times. Probably just a dream of course but it was vivid and felt real.

Chipperchopper · 23/10/2023 20:24

My gran, who was a very sensible, non-woo type of person, said that she was walking home from work one evening and suddenly found herself looking down on herself, from above, still walking. It was an out of body experience and she said it felt completely real, but only lasted a few moments. I find that fascinating as she was so non nonsense, and not a child, but a grown woman, less likely to confuse dreams and reality.

2welshmums · 23/10/2023 20:33

I looked up 'Astral Projection', which reminded me of an experience I had on Christmas Day when I was about 18.
I fell asleep in a chair at my grandparents, felt like a light sleep.
I felt myself float above my body, and travel up. A relative who had passed away was taking me up.
I kicked and screamed 'stop it, I'm not going up there, I'm not ready'. They dropped me and I landed in my physical body, heart pounding and breathless.
Such an experience, never happened to me again.

funbags3 · 23/10/2023 20:40

@2welshmums That sounds so scary.

OP posts:
2welshmums · 23/10/2023 20:44

@funbags3 it was at the time, but having spoke to someone who regularly saw my family member (who had passed away), she told me he was showing me something, and didn't mean to scare me.
That's given me comfort since, they they were t trying to drag me to hell 😂

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 23/10/2023 21:04

When I was pregnant I had gallstones, during one particularly awful attack I suddenly had this sensation of floating to the ceiling and watching myself writhing around on the floor.

I think that's more a traumatic detachment though....
