Did anybody watch this?

I think there was a presence and it wasn't made up

The daughters seemed genuine, esp as things happened when they all no longer lived there

Where was this? Not heard of it.

HennyPenny1234 · 24/08/2023 18:38

I think it would have been on the BBC as the presenter is actually a Radio One DJ

I found it on Sky in one of the Top Ten most popular programs this week I think

It's a four part documentary about a Welsh farmhouse. A lot of weird goings on over the years

I'm absolutely fascinated by this and don't think the family made it up. Has the house been put up for sale? Ive tried to google hoping to find older articles but have not found any. Came across this - Is this the property? www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/134519666#/?channel=RES_BUY

Flappyjack2507 · 27/08/2023 15:07

I watched it on iPlayer. I thought it was going to be a load of crap but I was gripped by it! Kept changing my mind, one minute I thought it was real then next I would think it's a hoax. No idea! But the monks were very creepy, especially the bit where it was over the baby's cot.
I don't think they are in it for the money - so I'm not sure what the motivation would be to make it all up.
I liked the presenter too, she seemed really genuine.

Mykittensmittens · 27/08/2023 15:10

@GoogleMeNot that’s not the house. The house is called Pen y Ffordd Farm. I was born nearby.

LadyFlumpalot · 27/08/2023 15:11

Ahhh there's a Most Haunted about that house, I'm sure!

Didn't know there is an actual documentary about it! That's going in my watch list.

TheMoth · 27/08/2023 15:40

I've grown up in n Wales, near some of these places. I'd never heard about them being haunted, until recently.

PersephonePomegranate23 · 27/08/2023 15:52

I watched this! I must admit that I was really torn, despite being a sceptic. I totally believed the daughters, but I found myself doubting the parents.

I know it made no sense for them to be behind it from a financial aspect as they claimed to have lost money on the same of the house, but sometimes people do things for other reasons then financial gain. I do think the mother liked the attention and possibly decided to run with it after that initial sighting by the Irish tourists, then again, the father could have enjoyed getting one over on people. Once a suggestion has been planted, people are susceptible to 'seeing' things.

The sightings of monks along the route of the pilgrimage was interesting, but I think easy to manipulate to fit the theory. There are probably lots of other 'sightings' dotted all around the whole country, it you cherry picked certain ones you could probably make them fit the route to anywhere.

HennyPenny1234 · 27/08/2023 16:03

You could see that it was beginning to mess with the female presenter's head

I agree that the two daughters seemed totally genuine. Not sure about the mother though

Strange that the large, heavy wooden owl moved on its own. The guy that told us that lived in the house after the initial family in the docu had all moved away

One thing I found strange was that the current owner said he'd found the gravestone and then when we saw it it was totally covered up. He had to dig it out

Not sure how he found it when it wasn't visible

Also, when the presenter went to the house, I don't remember seeing any of the words that were carved into the walls. They must have disappeared again?

I'm on the fence I guess

I thought the chemical they talked about that could make the words and emblems appear could also disappear? I could have just assumed that though! That was what made me suspect the father.

Uncovering the grave stone was a bit odd I thought, too. Not explained very well, perhaps.

The presenter was great though. I thought.

There is a podcast about this place too

No sorry just watched it, it wasn't this place

Wildblood · 27/08/2023 20:14

I watched this, the thing that intrigued me was the Irish hikers reported that they had seen the virgin mary in the field, and the homeowner saw a woman in a blue cloak on the patio, but they didn't seem to consider that both could be the same apparition. It was a bit dijointed and over long. The finding of the headstone was also weird and looked very staged. Overall though entertaining and an interesting story.

LadyFlumpalot · 28/08/2023 10:57

Ahhh, now three episodes in and it wasn't this place that Most Haunted went to - it was somewhere called Plas Y Dduallt. I'm sure there were similar happenings, carvings and stains appearing.

I'm unsure how I feel about the program. The presenter lass is definitely starting to get a bit freaked out about the whole thing, and whatever happened definitely affected Nicolette quite a lot. I do tend to believe in ghosts, but I'm unsure about carvings in plaster just vanishing by themselves.

The new owner seems entirely unfazed by the whole thing however, and personally, if I were a spirit annoyed that my gravestone was being mucked around with, I'd be like "challenge accepted!"

blueraininlondon · 28/08/2023 17:01

Does anyone have any other ghostly documentaries which you would recommend watching?

floribunda18 · 30/08/2023 06:17

I believe the family experienced something (not necessarily supernatural) and the house was creepy but the documentary was very drawn out and two episodes would have covered it.

Goldcircle, what is the name of the podcast you listened to?

Battytwatty · 01/09/2023 16:33

The Witch House podcast is brilliant if you like this kind of thing. It’s by Danny Robbins who also did the Uncanny podcasts.

The one mentioned below, The witch house, really good!

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 01/09/2023 20:04

I watched it on iplayer, originally on bbc2

HennyPenny1234 · 02/09/2023 09:33

For me, I'm undecided

I can't help thinking that if you went to a house that was rumored to have a presence you may then put any little noise down to it being supernatural

The real test would be somebody going there who had no idea of the claims and then seeing their feelings on the property

I would certainly never take part in a ouija board though, not if you paid me

I’ve not seen this. But I went to a pub in the north of England where there were loads of stories and sightings. Most haunted had been there I think. The room we stayed in was the epicentre. We were entertained by the locals and staff by all the stories, and watched the dvd strategically placed in our room. There was a list of “emergency numbers” on the back of the door (Samaritans, local churches, etc.) Really big build up. Anyway we had a grand night’s sleep and never saw or heard a thing. It’s all the power of suggestion. And as for motivation, we’ll you only have to read these boards to know there’s nowt so strange as folk.
