I don’t know what it is - nostalgia? Comfort?

but I love to ‘smell’ the air. Particularly at night or on holiday etc

please say I’m not the only one Smile

Me too. I love to smell the air at night and on holiday, in another country. Also after the rain.

SkylightSkylight · 19/11/2022 00:37

Your not alone!!!

so many great days. First thing on a morning. Each season has several different 'smells'.

@TankFlyBoss yep, night & holidays!!

Msgrieves · 19/11/2022 00:38

It smells cold tonight. Holidays smell bizarre.

EmmaLouu · 19/11/2022 00:42

Ahh! This is great! I absolutely love it. Gives a real feeling of wellbeing!! So nice to hear others say the same, my DH can’t understand it but I love it.

Yes I love it

ShinyPikachu · 19/11/2022 00:45

I love it too. I can tell when rain is coming because the air smells different beforehand, I've even proven weather forecasts wrong with my nose before. Grin

I love when the air changes to the winter smell. I haven't noticed it quite yet this year even though we've had some cooler days that have got close. I'm not a fan of winter but I love the smell of the air.

BeethovenNinth · 19/11/2022 00:57

Also me. But also means I can smell passers by eg their washing powder, strongly

my favourite is a pine forest after rain. But a damp day by the river can be a treat

DuchessDandelion · 19/11/2022 01:07

Me tooooo

I think I'm part wolf

Notsurewhattodooo · 19/11/2022 01:10

Oh gosh yes!!! Absolutely love it .

MustardCress · 19/11/2022 01:12

I thought this earlier! I opened the window to look at the stars and the smell of the air was incredible 😀 It always makes me feel really alive, sort of primeval!

TooBigForMyBoots · 19/11/2022 01:12

Love it. Love the sea air smell and the smell of rain.<<sniff>>

DifficultBloodyWoman · 19/11/2022 01:14

YES!

Some scents mean more than others - the smell of impending rain, eucalyptus during or after rain, morning dew, salty sea air …

it really impacts my mood (probably more than it should).

sausage767 · 19/11/2022 01:27

Absolutely. I live in country Australia. Last weekend my DH had been out slashing on the tractor and as we were walking back from the shed, it started raining lightly. The combination of the rain on warm fresh cut grass, ozone etc was just incredible.

AwfulSomething · 19/11/2022 02:10

Yes! Something so uplifting when the air smells good

AcrossthePond55 · 19/11/2022 02:18

Oh absolutely! I live between the beach and the Sierras. Depending on the wind direction I smell either 'beach air' or 'mountain air'. On still days it smells like 'the country'. There are also 'city smells' and 'weather smells'. I can tell if it's going to rain or snow by the smell in the air.

Smells are also part of my memories. If I think of my late grandparents I can 'smell' their house. Same for the house I grew up in, other places I love, and even foods I've eaten.

I'm glad to know others are the same way!

DaisyChristina · 19/11/2022 02:23

Me too! I love the morning air, and beside the sea on a slightly windy day.

garlicandsapphires · 19/11/2022 02:26

Yes of course

paintitallover · 19/11/2022 03:14

A memorable snell this year on a weekly country walk with a friend was when the season changed to mild spring. It was powerful and amazing.

Verbena17 · 20/12/2022 23:52

I love smelling the air!
I can always sense when it’s going to snow by smelling the air.
My favourite air smell is after rainfall - it’s called Petrichor. 🌧️

Bellabatwings · 04/01/2023 23:45

I live in the countryside in scotland so the air always smells fresh but the best air i have ever smelt was at the top of Ben Nevis, it was out of this world!!!
I would love to smell that everyday, so pure and clean!

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/01/2023 23:46

See I only occasionally experience this because I don’t have a great sense of smell.

I am jealous at missing out..

Findyourneutralspace · 04/01/2023 23:48

Not me but I love watching my cat stand at the door and have a good old sniff before he decides whether to go out. Sometimes, if the front door air doesn’t take his fancy, he goes to the back to sniff that.

BrutusMcDogface · 04/01/2023 23:48

I also love smelling the air! If I pop outside at night to grab something from my car (usually my work bag 🙄) I stand and take in the quiet, dark, cold air of the night. So refreshing!

BrutusMcDogface · 04/01/2023 23:50

Also the warm air of summer and/or foreign countries when you step out of an air conditioned shop, or when you get off a plane. <mmmm>
