Does anyone else love smelling the air

I don’t know what it is - nostalgia? Comfort?

but I love to ‘smell’ the air. Particularly at night or on holiday etc

please say I’m not the only one Smile

Yes I love it too, especially in the autumn when it’s cold and crispy, and in forests, mmmmmmm. I love the smell of the air in the Lake District, and I once went to the Alps in summer and that was amazing too.

I live a flat with a balcony and I go out no sniff the air at night before going to bed!

I love it too! I put 'winter is coming I can smell it in the air tonight' on Facebook a few years back as the 'cold' had arrived - brother called me a weirdo 😵‍💫

I thought you meant your DH had pee'd on the tractor, and I wondered where your post was going😆

LOL.. is slashing an Australian term? A slasher is a big wide tow-behind tractor attachment that cuts long grass in paddocks.

Although I believe the term is also used for urinating here also.

Correction: "Sniffing the breze".

Yes!

In Egypt there is a bank holiday in the spring that translates to "Sniffing the air".

I love the different scents of the seasons.
I also live near a biscuit factory so can smell when they are doing the hob nobs or the cheddars.

I used to love this but I lost my sense of smell 8 years ago. I miss it a lot.

I'm also reading this with nostalgia. I lost my sense of smell at the end of 2019. I miss the smells of outdoors. It's also incredibly frustrating. I got some perfume for Xmas. I had to get my sister to smell it to see what it smelled of, can't smell food cooking etc. In a cruel twist of fate I can still smell really bad smells eg raw sewage, rotting things etc

I used to do this but post covid lost some of my sense of smell. I'm going to make an effort to sniff the air heavily and hope it comes back!

I love smelling the air, especially when it's cold and crisp.
It used to smell of chocolate outside my house when the wind was from the north because I live less than a mile from Cadburys factory. Alas its closed down.

Dublin?

I love it too. I can tell when rain is coming because the air smells different beforehand, I've even proven weather forecasts wrong with my nose before. Grin

I love when the air changes to the winter smell. I haven't noticed it quite yet this year even though we've had some cooler days that have got close. I'm not a fan of winter but I love the smell of the air.

Same. I can tell when it's going to snow because I can smell it in the air.

Absolutely. I live in country Australia. Last weekend my DH had been out slashing on the tractor and as we were walking back from the shed, it started raining lightly. The combination of the rain on warm fresh cut grass, ozone etc was just incredible.

I thought you meant your DH had pee'd on the tractor, and I wondered where your post was going😆

Yes!!
I only learned a few years ago that not everyone can smell the seasons, the night, before it rains etc

I love the smell of the dog when he's been out on a cold night, he smells of "outside" and it's all trapped in his fur. Luckily he doesn't object to a good sniffing.

Summer trimmed grass and heat. Winter when snow is coming is the best smell. Thought everybody did this, looks like I’m right.

Yes I love this. I love the first smell of autumn - a hint of leaves turning. I also love the smell on a person when they come in from a really cold night.

Petrichor - the smell specifically just before or after rain! Heard this recently and really enjoyed that it has a specific word

Also the warm air of summer and/or foreign countries when you step out of an air conditioned shop, or when you get off a plane. <mmmm>
