firstly the sun came out, hooray

secondly and even more welcome Joey didn't put a foot wrong today (once he started concentrating and stopped having a good look at everything around him). He managed to shoulder in, leg yield and, with a placer pole, put in a single stride of canter before a jump and do a double with a placer pole in between - he was a star, am ashamed of all the grumpy thoughts I've been having about him until recently. Clever, beautiful boy

please share yours!

Pony has been out with no rug, which he loved. Took an hour to brush the mud off!

Pony club again on Tuesday, and both children will be riding. Husband has his first riding lesson tonight, (said if he can't beat us he might as well join us, and since horses have taken over the family he'd better learn) and I've been out on two long hacks without wanting to get off and I'm not feeling so panicky when the horse looks sideways at something

Spring's nearly here! Soon all 4 of us will be riding round the bridle paths after work!

It has been a bit quiet in here lately hasn't it. This winter's been a slog. What a year to get first horse!

MiffyWhinge · 24/03/2010 20:02

am so happy it is nearly April (not that have paid March livery yet ) - Barney extremely excited to go out without a rug and has to escape and roll in every bit of mud on way to field

cannot wait to brush all that winter fluff away and see his shiny summer self again

(Alice - wish I was going to see foals at any o'clock, bit broody)

Not poorly foals with the shits though

MiffyWhinge · 24/03/2010 21:02

Yipee! Husband loved riding on Wednesday. Whole family now officially horsey!

MiffyWhinge · 26/03/2010 09:10

DID NOT FALL OFF LAST NIGHT

Miffy now NOT falling off is definitely positive.

Oldernowiser, sounds like things are going great. I've asked DH if he wants to learn and so far he just mumbles something about "one day". Don't think he's got any great ambition so far.

Alice, foals - swoon. Even squitty foals. Am broody for puppies/kittens also.

Alicetheinvisible · 27/03/2010 11:28

Well done Miffy!!

Squitty foals smell really bad.

TB had a touch of colic last night. Thank god for DH who gave him a shot of buscupan and all fine. Think it is the new grass coming through delicate little flower brave horse

We had our 20wk scan yesterday and we are expecting a little boy (well, i hope he will be little!)

Owls · 27/03/2010 11:40

Oooh colic is so worrying isn't it. Actually must be pretty handy to be married to a vet.....

Congratulations on baby boy btw - are we allowed to ask about names?

Alicetheinvisible · 27/03/2010 11:49

Really haven't given it much thought yet tbh. We have decided to use a family name, so going to go back through the family to find one that suits. Really like Edward (Ted, Teddy) but it doesn't feel right for this one.

Horse is absolutely fine today, all hay eaten up, scoffed his breakfast down.

CMOTdibbler · 27/03/2010 21:01

Congrats on the scan - tis a right pain getting horsey stuff for boys tho

Horse was v sprightly today, and although my hip decided that it didn't want to function fully, I managed to trot with no stirrups quite nicely.

Was in the US this week, and as we had a very late flight back, diverted to an outlet mall on the way back to the airport so went a different way. N Virginia is obviously an english riding enclave as there were signs for point to points, and a lot of very beautiful horsey farms along the way, not looking like the western ones I normally see. Was wondering if my boss had suggested this place to get us to drive past the lovely houses and want to move there

MitchyInge · 29/03/2010 09:14

imagine how much lovely space there must be for those farms

here is some exciting news, twin gypsy cobs annoying there isn't a pic of them on website but there was a lovely one in the paper

Pixel · 29/03/2010 16:55

I saw the beautiful photo in the paper yesterday.

MitchyInge · 29/03/2010 17:01

did you swoon?

am nearly 40 and still waiting to grow out of squealing with excitement at things like that

MitchyInge · 29/03/2010 17:02

. . . am looking forward to coming back and reporting that am still in one piece after jumping lesson now

Pixel · 29/03/2010 17:30

I didn't swoon, I ahhhhhhd and got a tear in my eye.

I did swoon today though, when my sister emailed me a photo of our gorgeous vet that she found on a website.

Alicetheinvisible · 29/03/2010 17:39

Vets generally tend to be quite scrummy

Pixel · 29/03/2010 17:40

I know, why is that?

This one isn't even married, though I am unfortunately.

Alicetheinvisible · 29/03/2010 17:43

What is his name? DH might know him

Pixel · 29/03/2010 17:52

Ooh, am I brave enough to say? I think he may have a girlfriend, what if she is a mumsnetter? There is a pic of dhorse on my profile.

I would never be able to look him in the eye again.

Alicetheinvisible · 29/03/2010 17:59

it is my DH isn't it?

Pixel · 29/03/2010 18:07

Only if his initials are MW.

Alicetheinvisible · 29/03/2010 18:09

Nope! Funnily enough, the only clients that fancy themselves with a bit of a chance with him are nothing i would have to worry about (not now i am giving him a son anyhow )

Pixel · 29/03/2010 18:14

Who says I think I'm in with a chance? I have worshipped from afar for many years...

Pixel · 29/03/2010 18:41

Ok time to change the subject .

Positive things, positive things...

The seedlings on my windowsill are finally coming up, so despite the torrential rain outside and can believe spring is almost here .
