firstly the sun came out, hooray

secondly and even more welcome Joey didn't put a foot wrong today (once he started concentrating and stopped having a good look at everything around him). He managed to shoulder in, leg yield and, with a placer pole, put in a single stride of canter before a jump and do a double with a placer pole in between - he was a star, am ashamed of all the grumpy thoughts I've been having about him until recently. Clever, beautiful boy

please share yours!

Hurrah ! It is sunny today, and school owner was busily engaged in digging out the arena and putting drainage pipes in ready to put down all weather surface, and dug out the paths to gravel them all. Horse had a big spook at the roll of drainage pipe though

I graduated to catching horse and tacking up (under supervision) which was nice - feel like I am reaching the 7 year olds competency level

Positive things.....

My horses have settled into new yard, i love, love my new bedding (smells of opal fruits, not piss) and the people are lovely.
There are are 2 teenage girls there that ride lots so there will be people to ride out with once i have had the baby, and it is sunny today!

MiffyWhinge · 06/03/2010 16:36

Joey not putting a foot wrong, despite still being such a babyish infant he is never quite sure where to put his feet, he jumped a 2'9" straight (with youngest daughter on board, she doesn't like straights ) and was absolutely perfect - is hard not to laugh when watching him though, he does the absolute minimum necessary to get over the jumps, just sort of plops over.

CF the brown one, who galloped round the course, bucking his rider off and charging right at the instructor who would of course be the yard owner on this occasion

it is not really his fault he finds jumping so exciting, it is nice in some ways that he is able to express himself?

however snaffle is being hung up to air for a while, back to a gag and a little decorum

(STILL not putting foot wrong I mean)

Mitchy - Sounds like fun!
I have got a bagful of stuff which may be of use to you, numnahs, girths, sweat rug, summer sheet, and a full length waterproof coat that would fit a skinny teenager (sadly i am neither anymore) Also a 5'9" lightweight NZ hardly been used but has been ripped, which would need to be mended to be used, but if you want any of it, it is yours

MiffyWhinge · 06/03/2010 16:49

oh yes please!

will you be coming to Topthorn any time soon? could be a good place to meet - I will try not to be on a horse though, so as not to be any sort of danger to society

Alicetheinvisible · 06/03/2010 20:30

I haven't been there yet, but let me know when you are next there and i will come up

MiffyWhinge · 07/03/2010 10:49

ah, thought you went a lot - I could easily come to you/somewhere near you if easier?

am out of blue chip so could be the time to pick up some of your stuff and make the change

Is blue chip good and not prone to making the little darlings excitable? Pony is losing a bit of weight, but stuffed full (as much as we dare)of hard feed

Pixel · 07/03/2010 23:07

Ours are looking a bit leaner too (not thin, no ribs!) but as long as they don't lose too much weight I think it is actually a good thing, much safer when the spring grass starts coming through which it will very soon. It is nature's way for them to be like this after all, not much laminitis in the wild as far as I'm aware.

MiffyWhinge · 07/03/2010 23:20

I don't think blue chip makes them excitable

blots some of their recent antics from mind

Agree it's better to have them slightly underweight at this time of year. I swear they put weight on just by breathing.

Postive - it's a gorgeous morning here, the grond is just starting to dry up slightly. Blue sky, sunshine and the birds are cheeping away. Ahhhh. Also, have internet back after losing it for what felt like an eternity. All positives.

Owls · 08/03/2010 10:03

Ground not grond obviously. Durr.

Alicetheinvisible · 08/03/2010 13:46

Ours are on a blue chip type supplement, honeychop and splash of veg oil. They are both TB (well mare is 3/4's) They don't seem to need more than that unless they are doing a decent amount of work.

mummydoc · 08/03/2010 18:10

bella fell off for the first time on sunday.
This is a positvie as it had been worrying her ( she is 5 !) as there has been several nasty falls at pony club and she has got quite upset by that particular pony bein gin her pony club lessons. Noddy has been star and we had been on a little hack and then gone int he school to practise our trotting and my leading skills, went so well we decided to pop over a tiny jump. Noe bella has jumped before but on a dead on the end of the rope type who basically just lives his legs a little higher and flops over , but Noddy likes jumping ...

so he trotted beautifully to jump and did a very neat nice but proper jump over it, i was so busy jumping the thng myself didn't think to hold bella's leg and she bounced straight off the side. Noddy bless him stepped neatly sideways so as not to step on her and then nuzzled at her to make sure she was alright.
Glad to have got the first fall over with, bella ok about it and the "falling off fairy " is visiting tonight with new chaps and a new headcollar .

Owls · 09/03/2010 09:04

Mummydoc, congratulations on Bella's fall! Doesn't sound quite right does it?! Nice touch about the falling off fairy. Do they visit adults as well?

Alicetheinvisible · 09/03/2010 11:02

I love the falling off fairy! Will have to remember that

We are loving the new yard, everything is well enclosed because of the dog, so DD can't wander off the property. She loves pottering backwards and forwards to the hayshed and even had a sit on my mare the other day. She will ride dammit!

steamedtreaclesponge · 09/03/2010 11:14

Hello! Can I join in with something positive?

Had a lesson on Saturday whilst feeling like death (a party the evening before, and a horrible cold which meant I lost my voice) and was rather dreading riding. But when my instructor came round at the end to give the usual pointers, she said that I rode really well and she didn't have anything bad to say about my riding! First time that's ever happened

And I was riding a pig of a pony who usually fights me for 95% of the time but who was being unusually cooperative - perhaps he was feeling under the weather as well

Anyway, not very exciting (or relevant to the thread at this point) but I just wanted to share it with somebody!

I am still very of all you lot with your own ponies though...

CMOTdibbler · 10/03/2010 11:08

Another good lesson ! And kept horse in trot for ages this time with less vocal reinforcements. Hurrah ! How much will I hurt tomorrow though ?

Life interferes with lessons this weekend (have people coming to visit), but off to the countryside day at Warwick racecourse on Sunday. DS v excited to see the hounds and farrier.

Am too Steamedtreaclesponge

Alicetheinvisible · 10/03/2010 12:33

Ooh, i love the countryside day at Newmarket racecourse, have fun

Well done on your lesson, just so gutted i can't ride til after this baby is born. I want to try the new hacking!!!

Owls · 10/03/2010 16:48

Hello Steamedtreacle I applaud you having a lesson with a cold and a hangover. Urgh.

Warwick racecourse is not too far from me but I will be doing the dutiful Mother's Day lunch. Shame as it sounds like a good day.

Well done on your lesson CMOT sounds like you are really doing well now.

CMOTdibbler · 10/03/2010 17:04

They are doing a Mothers Day lunch deal Owls

I feel I am making some good progress now - and instructor reckons I will make my target of being able to go trail riding in the summer no problem - have to be able to ride on the road and canter to go to the pub, so thats the aim. But I do feel inadequate compared to the children riding !

mummydoc · 10/03/2010 17:39

CMOT were do you have lessons ? is it worcester equestrian centre or somehitng like that ? i remeber you saying you ar ein west mids some were. not stalking you but have been offered loan pony from worcester riding school.

CMOTdibbler · 10/03/2010 20:46

I go to Pegasus - I think Worcester RS is a bit posher

steamedtreaclesponge · 11/03/2010 09:25

Ooh CMOT where are you planning on going trail riding? I've finally bitten the bullet and am going riding in the mountains in Mongolia this autumn, am wondering how I'm going to cope spending all day in the saddle for two weeks... at the moment I can hardly walk after just an hour!
