firstly the sun came out, hooray

secondly and even more welcome Joey didn't put a foot wrong today (once he started concentrating and stopped having a good look at everything around him). He managed to shoulder in, leg yield and, with a placer pole, put in a single stride of canter before a jump and do a double with a placer pole in between - he was a star, am ashamed of all the grumpy thoughts I've been having about him until recently. Clever, beautiful boy

please share yours!

Joey is going to Topthorn spring showing show in a couple of weeks! Hope by advertising this it will make him be good - will just show him in hand if he seems rodeo-y, or pretend he is not mine and leave sharer to it. Not sure how the brown one will cope without him for the day though.

Well, we moved yards, this is an emotional, but still positive thing! Last night I rode her for the last time in the bottom field at the old yard. We only walked and she was bucking and doing weird jiggling on the spot, spinning around and leaping forward into a buck. I was bareback too thinking that would be fine for a nice calm walkabout and paddle in the stream! I nearly came off several times Confused

So I took her for a long ride to get to the new yard so that she wasn't so lively on the busy road leading to the yard. Didn't exactly work...she was still very strong. The busy road was bloody scary. We got to the new yard and DHorse seemed a bit confused when I got off, put her in a stable and untacked her etc!

Then she went out and was chased around by two mares. She kept trying to get away from them and just graze, then they would come charging after her and she would squeal and run off.

I watched for a while then the yard owner kept an eye on her and gave me a call to say that she was fine...I was quite scared when I answered the phone to her, I was worried that she was going to say she had been kicked.

Going up there now to see her. A bit nervous about meeting the other liveries but yay no psycho bitch. I will probably still see her as I go to the new yard though, she lives right next to it and is hopefully enraged that I got a place and she didn't! Heh.

Furminator is on my list, although I can borrow one it must be annoying after a while? Not using it yet, but looking for local SJ things for my worryingly well behaved horse which the going is good.

Pony was fantastic today, especially considering how swirly it is out there, even cantered nicely along grass verge jumping the drainage things without being silly. Only one incident of 'cantering on the spot' on the road which is forgivable :)

Horse so good I am actually worried Hmm

Pixel - snap!

We got stuck into the furminator, for the first time this season, when they got back from riding this morning. They weren't really ready to start shedding loads but still satisfying and reminds us that Spring is on it's way!

Good luck with the move, I hope it keeps fine for you. What a relief it will be to get away from Psycho bitch! (you can have ours if you find you miss herGrin).

Positive things - Dhorse is moulting like mad, spring must be on the way! Smile

And I'm ridiculously pleased with my new furminator, such satisfaction from scraping out all that old hair and it doesn't make my hand ache like my old shedding blade did. Little things and all that...

Pandora, I love the ponies in the garden! And I used to ride on council estates in Hemel Hempstead, they were actually great for hacking because the planning of the town meant that there were wide verges and big stretched of grass running behind houses etc. It was fab :)

Positive stuff - tomorrow DHorse moves to her new home!!! I have been moving her stuff over to the new yard the last few days, and making her new stable all cosy for her. I hope the weather is a bit better tomorrow though, I have to hack her there on a busy road and it is currently that kind of windy weather that is just perfect for winding up horses...

The Allistair Hood clinic went really well today - 20 quid well spent for an hour.

Five young riders in DD's group ranging from 7 to 10 years and all about the same level. After walking and trotting he got them cantering together as a group (plenty of space) and, as it was DD's first time cantering in company, we were a bit concerned but actually worked out great and she had to do it sometime. Then they practised one at time and he got them really perfecting their style and presentation.

Davina Whiteman is doing one in our area next week and we were very impressed with this one.

Envy Butkin, i so miss competing every weekend.

Have recently scanned in a load of my pony club pictures into FB, and it has been really nice going through them but does make me feel a little nostalgic for the time before kids Blush only a little though...

Going to ride today.

DD took roan pony to Pony Club last night and managed a whole evening of cantering and jumping uprights/tiny spreads without a refusal of a run out which is good news as jumping is not his real job.

Palomino coming along well and DD taking him to an Alastair Hood clinic next weekend so fingers crossed that all goes well with him.

May go to a show on foot tomorrow but we're determined not to take them anywhere for another month as it is going to be a busy year - already downloading schedules and making Royal International qualifier plans!

Wooohoooo!

My girlie went in our littlest paddock for 1/2 an hour for the first time since June on Monday!!! Vet has said she can have 1/2 an hour a day so long as she is in work.

She LOVED it. It was so lovely to see her being a proper horse with her head down. She did have a minor hoolie. Totally understandable..

Things are looking up!!

Ha yes, I spent 2 hours digging a channel in front of the shelters to divert the water that was threatening to come over the sills and flood the floors. I ended up with quite a river going past so it did work but the beasts have trodden it all in again now of course.Angry

I am always looking up horseboxes Confused as i have the horses, but no way of getting them to places.

Rode Mare today. Was mostly good, but did have a buck then try to bugger off Hmm all because of a 'scary' trailer rattling past on the road - that horse is not scared of a thing! (we were in the school, a big road runs very close by) Such an improvement since her wolf tooth was removed.

Going to ache tomorrow...

Gah @ Pixel's water up to ankles!!!

I managed to fit in a quick ride with the mare after work on Friday :)
And DD is doing well in her lessons, :)

I have been spending a lot of time browsing Horsemart. I cannot afford another horse. I am not sure whether my browsing is positive in that light, but I have a little wish list of what I would be now buying if I won the lottery!!!

We are very lucky where we are now, we have an arena (does get a bit waterlogged and freezes though) and 2 woodchip turnouts which can also be used for lunging when the school freezes. My horses are so chilled at this yard, it is lovely.

Hi Sykes. I'm ashamed to say dhorse has done nothing at all since we had the snow. I know I'll have to get on him eventually but I keep putting it off. To be fair though, we can only ride on the road and it's only in the last week or so they haven't been icy or being rained on very hard! (was trying to make up feeds the other day and it was raining so hard the water coming under the door was up to my ankles). My sister has volunteered to get on the beastie first so I'm waiting for her bad back to get a bit better. Yours sounds like he's going well, shame about your shoulder.

Alice, your gelding sounds lovely. I wish mine could have a bit of a lunge but we only have lots of mud to do it in. Roll on summer!

Well done Pixel!!! That is very positive!

Lunged Gelding over a pole today and he was very sensible, then got on him for literally 2mins at the end and he was very good. Need to do a lot of work with him though as he is so light in the mouth there is literally nothing in front of him atm.

Have been looking on the Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) site this evening and have registered Gelding. It is a really good site. Feeling very positive and excited about the horses atm.

Well done, Pixel. Haven't posted for ages but all going fairly well here, apart from the snow and now have a badly strained shoulder which is making life rather painful and v difficult to ride. He started bucking so had fantastic back lady out and he now seems SO much happier. However, hacked out today and horse was just fantastic after six weeks of virtually no work. Bit silly - head snatching yesterday - but rode him on the buckle today past motor cross site, noisy cows and other slightly spooky things. How's your horse going? The snow was SUCH a pain.

Rode out by myself today for the first time in about 15 years. Didn't ride dhorse Blush but pinched sis's pony. As it happened I was very glad to NOT be on dhorse as there was an almighty roar like an earthquake and dpony and I crept round the corner to find a ginormous lorry emptying out road surfacing stuff and a steamroller (or whatever the modern equivalent is called) crunching it all down.

Am very very proud that I didn't get off, or clutch at the reins, even though my legs were literally shaking. After that we only had to negotiate a load of birthday balloons on someone's gate and we were home safe.Smile

I want to do it again now!

This week i have managed to get both horses worked!! Shock

Our horses had their teeth rasped at new year, and DH had a good look in mare's mouth to find a wolf tooth - she will be 10 this year! So that has now been removed and today i rode her for the first time since and there is a definite improvement, no cocking her jaw or hanging.

Lunged gelding a couple of times this week and he looks fab. Hoping to get on him this weekend !
