Been loitering for a while but need some help now!
So I have an old (27 years old, 18 in a school, 3 with me) school horse who had a hard life but is now enjoying a happily ever after Smile he has 3 great paces - slow, slower and stop! And I love him that way. His main use is to cuddle me and the occasional "wonder over yonder" hack.
But there is a very pushy girl at the small yard I keep my boy at who keeps trying to "motivate" him! Started out with her giving tips and telling me to "boot him on", slap his bum as we go past and say trot on ect. This annoyed me but was tolerable.
When I first got him he was very whip shy, if he could see someone with one he would shy and rear. Now he's fine, he know I'll never use one and that's fine. But the whip fear has been coming back over the last few weeks and have just discovered that she's been going into the geldings field (she has a mare) and "training" him while i'm not there. Angry using a whip Angry I wondered why is head collar was moving around but assumed I was being silly and not paying attention to where I put it.
I'm hopping mad and as its on the (brand new) CCTV she can't deny it.
I want to go in yelling but know its not the right way to go. How do I approach this and make sure it NEVER happens again?
I know im over protective of him but he's mine and if I accept him as he is and pamper him then that's up to me.
I could explode i'm so angry.Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry

I would be absolutely livid if she had done that to my horse. I hope she is banned from the yard with immediate effect.

CaveMum · 29/05/2015 20:45

Don't feel bad, how were you to know a lunatic had been messing about with him.

You're right to be livid, and she definitely needs to go. I'm appalled that anyone could think this is an appropriate way to behave.

AMcoffeeLover · 29/05/2015 20:56

The yard owner has been good so far. The moment she knew she told me and is talking to the girl tomorrow and I will be very surprised if she stays.

Chesntoots · 29/05/2015 21:28

Holy crap. You would have to physically restrain me.

Who do these people think they are that they feel it acceptable to mess with other peoples horses? Gives me the rage.

Hopefully it will be sorted tomorrow and he can go back to chilling and cuddling. Remember the kisses - some noses are hard to resist!

Bonkey · 29/05/2015 21:47

I would have punched her in the throat

If anyone was doing anything with any of mine while I wasn't present without my permission would have a talking too - I don't even like it when they get fed a carrot over the fence.

Taking a whip to one of them would be enough to risk being arrested!

Hopefully your yard owner is fully on your side and will tell her to leave - if she gets away with it once chances are she will try again and no one should want someone like that on their yard!

Gabilan · 29/05/2015 22:13

"The moment she knew she told me and is talking to the girl tomorrow and I will be very surprised if she stays."

Good that she's on your side. Do you have a livery agreement? That say who is entitled to handle your horse. The girl may be in breach of her agreement.

If anyone did this to my horse I'd be hard put not to be physically violent towards them. A horse that's 27 years old has earned the right to do what he likes. There's no reason at all to do more with him. Would she chase her 85 year old (great) grandfather to do more?

Although thinking about it, you could shut her in the stable with my IDx. He's a bit of thug. I'd think she'd learn a bit of respect.

Gabilan · 29/05/2015 22:14

"That should say"

AMcoffeeLover · 29/05/2015 22:33

Well my baby is safe in his stable, gates are locked til 6am tomorrow morning (when I'll be back on guard duty).
Only myself and the yard owner can handle my horse. There aren't any staff as only 10 horses, all DIY.
I've been trying to calm down but I think when I see her I will go ape shit, not planned but I won't be able to control myself most likely.
Calling vet tomorrow to discuss, even of they don't come out I would like them to be aware of whats gone on given it could impact his health.
Just Bought 2kg worth of organic unsweetened peppermint treats..... Think I might be over compensating!
I don't know how long I'll have left with him (hopefully years but you never know) and I want him happy and loved, not upset and hurt.
My friends got a horse at a yard a few miles away that got an awful habit of crushing people against walls.......maybe she should "play" with him.....

Gabilan · 29/05/2015 22:40

Oh just go apeshit at the stupid woman. I think it will do her good. She needs to have a serious think about what she did. It's wrong to handle other people's horses without their permission. It's all kinds of wrong to beat up old horses. They give us so much that they deserve a happy and relaxed retirement.

mrslaughan · 29/05/2015 22:43

I would be so bloody angry.

I would be insisting that she leaves - why should you? it is a completely unforgivable transgression.......and she is old enough to should know better.

SoldierBear · 29/05/2015 22:47

Hang onto that anger, but let it get cold so you can give her a sound bollocking without any threats. Because she sounds the type to go to the police.
Tell her she is a stupid little girl with no personal boundaries and fuck all knowledge of horses. Tell her she has breached the yard agreement and abused your horse. And tell her if she ever lays one finger on him you will turn the tapes over to the police, the RSPCA and her parents. Oh, and the British Horse Society for good measure!
And dream of shovelling all that manure inside her new car!

MoreBeta · 29/05/2015 22:52

I used to ride many years ago so lurk in Tack Room for interest but never usually post but this thread has left me aghast!

How on earth does someone get it into their head to take your horse without permission and hit him with a whip?

I would go so far as to tell her you will report her to the RSPCA if she ever touches your horse again and you will press to have her banned from having anything to do with horses ever again.

Pixel · 29/05/2015 23:08

Good idea Gabilan. Send her to 'train' my dhorse with a whip. He'd have her! He has absolutely no fear of whips but he does have a temper.

Honestly if someone had done this to my dear old pony (he went blind when he was 27) I'd have murder in my heart and I've never hurt anyone in my life. I'm sitting here feeling angry on your behalf! How bloody dare she?!

God I hate arrogant people like this who think they know better than everybody else. Usually they haven't a clue.

zipzap · 29/05/2015 23:10

I'd just report her to the police and the RSPCA / any other appropriate bodies straight off. Then tell her when you see her - would be much better to see her face when she realises how seriously badly she has behaved and how much shit she's in. And how much manure she could be in if she leaves her car unlocked.

AMcoffeeLover · 29/05/2015 23:10

Her car has cream coloured leather interior.........oh the things I'd love to do to it!
Im trying to control myself a bit as in afraid that half way through shouting at her I'll either burst into tears or hit her ( then I'd be the bad guy and most likely arrested)
its not only stupid but very dangerous. What if he'd found the energy to rear or kick out? Or she'd done him some harm, she doesn't know his med history.
Its like a little girl playing at being someone clever.

Shes not a little girl - stop thinking of her like that.

She is 18.
She is a adult and is more than responsible to take the consequences of her actions.

Just remember this is not your fault and your boy knows that its not you who has caused any of it! Big hugs!

And I'm sure if you happen to get into any deep water us lot could bail you out between us! Wink

AMcoffeeLover · 29/05/2015 23:57

Keep having awful thoughts that he needed me to protect him and I wasn't there Sad

OP posts:
SonceyD0g · 30/05/2015 00:02

I would be too. Good thing it's not my horse I'd prob be spending tonight in a cell!

TeenagersDriveMeMad · 30/05/2015 00:09

Got a copy of the footage and

  1. Police
  2. RSPCA (for all the use they'll be)
  3. WHW
  4. ALL your local Facebook groups, horsey or not. Send the footage to her parents and friends. Name and shame!

Your poor boy, I hope he gets over this and back to normal soon Sad. No horse deserves treatment like that, let alone a veteran who should be enjoying his semi-retirement.

AMcoffeeLover · 30/05/2015 00:30

Teenagers - we don't call it semi retirement. We call it people finally realising that he is "King" and "Ruler Of The World". Sounds more majestic than semi retired Grin

DancingDinosaur · 30/05/2015 00:37

Crikey. She's a cheeky bitch. What the heck is she playing at? I'd certainly be having strong words, and certainly threaten her with police, rspca etc. What sort of person takes it upon themselves to do that???

AMcoffeeLover · 30/05/2015 00:43

Really struggling to Sleep, i'm so cross still!Angry
