Who the fuck dumps there horse in MY field

MagicLlama · 16/11/2012 20:26

So ive gone down to let my horses in tonight, and there is an extra fucking horse in my field. I know its not mine. I know it wasnt there at 7:30 this morning. I know its been put in because the lock is cut off. CUT off. Theve cut my padlock off to put an additional horse IN!! IN!!

It went crazy when I took mine in to the stables, so I had no choice. Hes now in a stable with a haynet.

Ive rang round locally and noone appears willing to claim him. Ive rang the police, and theve advised me to put un an abandonement notice telling whoever owns him they have 14 days to shift him, before he becomes mine, and apparently hes my legal responsibility in the meantime because hes on my land.

WTF do I do now?

What a lovely thing you've done for him. Smile

DownTheRabidHole · 20/11/2012 18:40

Oh it's like reading a chapter of "Jump". Will we adopt him and enter him in the national?

MimsyBorogroves · 20/11/2012 18:58

Aaw, hope they're delighted to be reunited Grin

If they weren't delighted what would happen next?

Whojamaflip · 20/11/2012 19:01

Yay! Grin Lucky lucky boy to be "dumped" in your field and well done to you! Thanks

DameEnidsOrange · 20/11/2012 19:32

Grin Brilliant news

ExitPursuedByMarieAntoinette · 20/11/2012 19:54

Great to hear he has a chip, and that they work. Hope he gets home soon.

Fingers crossed that his chip details are up to date. X

Mirage · 20/11/2012 20:15

Awww! I can just imagine how pleased his owner is going to be.I'd be devastated if dpony went missing.[although she is such a grump that no one she didn't approve of would be able to get near her.]

edam · 20/11/2012 20:20

Oh, I'm really pleased he has got owners. Even though you were starting to get a bit fond of him, it'll be really nice to see him reunited with his owners (assuming they didn't dump him - no-one could be daft enough to dump a horse with a chip giving their address, could they...). Bet they will be hugely grateful he's been so well looked after.

MagicLlama · 20/11/2012 20:24

Bad News.

The details on his chip are not current. The people listed on the chip are a racing yard. He is a failed racehorse and was retired off 15 months ago due to an injury. He was sold on to someone in Cheshire to be restarted and reschooled as a hack. He was then given away to another person of people 3 months ago when they lost their grazing - he was lame at that point due to a kick in the field. They only have a phone number of the people they gave him to and at the moment the phone is not being answered.

He is not reported as stolen or missing, and vet says this is a bad sign.

Im gutted for him, absolutely gutted!

msrisotto · 20/11/2012 20:27

Ah shit. Sorry llama. Do you think the racing yard should take him? I reckon you should ditch him there!

Oh poor LostBoy. I would have him in a shot but my DH would D.I.V.O.R.C.E me

MagicLlama · 20/11/2012 20:32

The person that was given him is not a local number, so i dont understand how hes got here. It makes no sense. I can only assume he has been sold / passed on yet again to have ended up local. And why my field? You have to pass other fields on the way to mine, and they dont have locks on them as they are either farmers crops or have the evil sheep in them.

And to make it worse even though hes been shipped around and all over the place, yet hes so trusting. Its just shit. He neighed at me today when I went to get him with the vet and came charging over. Hes so lovely and hes been dumped. What sort of jackass just dumps their horse!

MaryZezItsOnlyJustNovember · 20/11/2012 20:33

Do they not have to update chips when they pass on old race horses? And are you just allowed to give away horses when you no longer want them?

No wonder there are so many being dumped Sad

If he has been lame all this time his new "owners" obviously either don't want to or can't afford to pay vet bills.

MaryZezItsOnlyJustNovember · 20/11/2012 20:34

I suppose your field because there were horses in it and they know that as a horse lover you will look after him Hmm.

Alameda · 20/11/2012 20:42

:( oh poor poor boy, how can that happen?

he could come and live with us for free if he was a sturdier sort and didn't need a stable

MagicLlama · 20/11/2012 20:44

Well his registration should have been changed, so i dont know whats happened there.

Obviously ive not been given details of any of the people, as data protection means I cant be told who / what is on the chip, but the vet rang me back to basically say that its unlikely ill be getting a call, as horse has had more recent owners than the chip who havent reported him stolen. So either they are away and whoever is looking after their horse has not told them hes missing, or they know its missing and dont care. He reckons more likely to be the latter, especially as hes been with me for a few days.

OP posts:
PuggyMum · 20/11/2012 20:49

What do you think you'll do magic if he is not claimed? Could you keep him as a MN horse and ask us to all muck in! He he!

Have you named him yet??

Alameda · 20/11/2012 20:52

it's so hard to imagine, how do you not report your horse stolen or missing?

Unless latest owners didn't know he was chipped?

sorry you haven't had the happy outcome hoped for, can you keep him?

MagicLlama · 20/11/2012 20:56

Arrghh i dont know. Im more of a native type of horse and always have been, quite what id do with a gigantic ex racer I dont know.

I mean I have the space for him certainly, and itd mean the others wouldnt need to come in just to keep the old mare company, but hes going to need completely restarting & reschooling. I dont have a school, I dont even know if I have the time. And hes a very big expensive companion pony Grin

But hes gorgeous. And hes got a sob story.

OP posts:
SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 20/11/2012 20:56

Looks like you have yourself a new horse! That's the trouble with giving away animals. They are technically worthless to the people you give them to. It makes them disposable! Sad Maybe the person who dumped him was looking for someone who looked like they might be soft hearted when they drove past the other fields. You have small ponies, therefore you have children and would probably be open to looking after abandoned things! Confused
I'd be hoping that nobody comes after him. Get that notice up, keep him out of sight then find him a new home.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 20/11/2012 20:57

Could you loan him out from your yard? You get to keep hold of him but know what's happening to him.

BehindLockNumberNine · 20/11/2012 20:57

Oh MagicLlama, what a sad state of affairs for poor LostBoy. he sounds absolutely lovely, I think he is a keeper Grin
