Who the fuck dumps there horse in MY field

MagicLlama · 16/11/2012 20:26

So ive gone down to let my horses in tonight, and there is an extra fucking horse in my field. I know its not mine. I know it wasnt there at 7:30 this morning. I know its been put in because the lock is cut off. CUT off. Theve cut my padlock off to put an additional horse IN!! IN!!

It went crazy when I took mine in to the stables, so I had no choice. Hes now in a stable with a haynet.

Ive rang round locally and noone appears willing to claim him. Ive rang the police, and theve advised me to put un an abandonement notice telling whoever owns him they have 14 days to shift him, before he becomes mine, and apparently hes my legal responsibility in the meantime because hes on my land.

WTF do I do now?

A lot of racers end up at point to point yards. Are there any around you? Or even any yards with grazing nearby. The race yard i worked on used to turn horses out to graze over an hours drive away. They had pretty minimal supervision when out "on holiday". Dunno if PTP yards ever do the same. Sometimes trainers don't register the horse in new owners name until it races, which could be a year after it was bought. So even if it looks a bit out of shape and doesn't have updated chip it could still be in racing?

MagicLlama · 21/11/2012 15:37

Well the abandonment notice is up. His owners have 14 days to move him before he becomes my legal property!

I've been lurking to follow what happens with this lovely sounding horse (not that I know a thing about horses tho) and think OP that you are being an absolute saint, and the horse is lucky to have been 'found' by you.
And I also would like to suggest 'MagicLlama' as his new name if one is needed....

MaryZezItsOnlyJustNovember · 21/11/2012 15:44

Did you look at SparkyTGD's link, Magic? I know it's a fair bit from you, but the horse sounded similar.

MagicLlama · 21/11/2012 15:51

MaryZ yes i did. Unfortunately he hasnt got the faint white star, nor is he as big nor as old.

Just caught up....

Poor lost boy.... Sounds like he's been passed from pillar to post.

I'm about an hour away and a 'novice rider' in that I absolutely love horses but can't afford one... I buy the Groupon deals and have a go where I can.

I'd be happy to chip in and sponsor him and come along for visits and to muck in. I find horses very therapeutic. .

But I hope if there is somebody out there who is missing this poor boy that they are reunited through your efforts.

picturesinthefirelight · 21/11/2012 18:25

Have you thought about contacting the sentinel?

queenofthepirates · 21/11/2012 18:47

Okay, I have a plan should horsey be yours in 9 days' time.

I would love a pony but I suspect that my garden isn't big enough for cantering and I have a cat and I imagine she may object. As may my neigh-bours (geddit?)

But I would love to own a part share in your horsey, to come for a holiday nearby and visit, to ride him or her and to comb their mane. Can you hear the theme to Black Beauty in the background?

How about you offer shares in horsey and we all club together and buy a week's worth? If it saves them from the glue factory, I'm about to write a cheque.

Yours fancifully
Queenie x

Vicar So sorry, I hadn't thought about the nearest house not knowing who the field belonged to. We all live in each other's pockets around here! I swear you can't fart without everyone in a five mile radius knowing! I need to get out in the big wide world more! (Couldn't today though! Practically flooded in, 25 mile round trip to collect DD from bus stop in market town 10 miles away, which is why I am so late apologising and explaining my stupidity! Grin )

frantic51 · 21/11/2012 19:55

What's with all the exclamation marks? I seem to have turned into some kind of cheerleader Blush

ThatVikRinA22 · 21/11/2012 19:57

Grin please dont apologise! it does seem odd to just leave a horse in a field without telling anyone but if you dont know who owns either its hard to know who to tell!

i told control. if anyone rang up asking about where their mysterious horse had come from i hope control would have told them....but i know how it works and i have my doubts

ThatVikRinA22 · 21/11/2012 19:57

strike through fail!

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 21/11/2012 20:41

Has taken me all day to read through this thread.

Poor horse being dumped Sad but at least he is being well cared for, well done MagicLlama

If anyone put a random horse into my field the poor thing would be terrorised by my extremely bad tempered stroppy cow TB mare, the only horse she allows in her field is her field companion who is a pain the arse cheeky shetland, I am fairly certain there would be blood shed, she even has a tantrum if the pheasants or rabbits dare to walk through her field!

SantasStrapOn · 21/11/2012 20:41

If I go and steal BigHorse back will you sponsor him too? Grin

SantasStrapOn · 21/11/2012 20:57

Oh God I've killed the thread :(

dikkertjedap · 21/11/2012 21:16

Poor horse and poor you.

Would he be the type of horse you would pick if you were to look for another horse? If not, I would consider carefully whether to keep him though if he is not claimed. Ex-racers are unlikely to become great hacks (there are some exceptions of course) and thoroughbreds are generally more expensive horses to keep (more often ill/injuries IME compared with other breeds).

I hope somebody claims him, but seems unlikely though.

He is lucky that he was dumped in your field and has you to look after him (at least for the time being).

Ebb · 21/11/2012 21:20

Another lurker here. I was so hoping for a happy reunion. Sad I'm glad he's got you to look after him. I've ridden lots of ex-race horses and some have been fantastic. Here's hoping that Lost Boy is the same.

GotMyGoat · 21/11/2012 21:46

I was talking to my DH about this here horsey, it's a longstanding joke that he owes dd a pony (she asked for one from within the womb, see)

He says we can afford an ear. So we'll sponsor the horses ear please.

dearprudence · 21/11/2012 21:57

A MN horse, yes. Like the Blue Peter baby.

GotMyGoat · 21/11/2012 22:09

Blue Peter baby?

SantasStrapOn · 21/11/2012 22:43

There's a Blue Peter baby?

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 21/11/2012 22:56

Wasn't Sophie Ellis Bextor the Blue Peter baby?

BonkeyMollocks · 21/11/2012 23:02

How can there be a Blue Peter baby?
Confused

LivingThings · 21/11/2012 23:09
