Sixty-Eighth Republic - still under temporary guardianship…

In the absence of staff and her fabulous thread titles and witty openers here is a 68th thread. The broom cupboard is overflowing so time for another Republic. Hopefully we hear from staff soon.

Stolen from previous threads…
'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

Long before I got to Victoria, the teaching union (AEU) had seen off the government inspectors, so I don't know how they did it. I think the strength is that there is only one union for state schools: more clout.

I've had one lesson evaluation since 2006, and no-one has ever looked at my lesson planner. I think there was a learning walk in about 2019-10.

twinkletoesimnot · 05/11/2021 06:40

Hope you don't feel too bad with it Rule.

Also, with all due respect nurses etc know that part of their job is dealing with people who are potentially hazardous to their own health.

Barring the odd cold and sick bug, I didn't sign up to put my own and my families health at risk throughout a pandemic.
I know we have (and still are) but not closing to all but key workers would have been reckless.

Also they are completely missing the point that it was needed for public health reasons and to help transmission rates.

twinkletoesimnot · 05/11/2021 06:44

family's (typo)

punctuation not great either- wish mn had an edit button!

We are all really down at work and struggling tbh.

Advert for new ht has gone out saying that we will be joining a MAT. We are supposedly at the consultation stage but looks like it's already decided!

MrsHerculePoirot · 05/11/2021 07:05

Sorry @RuleWithAWoodenFoot that is shit. Hope you feel better soon.

Agree with all your points Chloe and twinkletoes.

Twinkle (job ad wording): that’s a bit shocking even so!

Mistressiggi · 05/11/2021 08:08

Hope you're ok Rule

Sureitwillbegrand · 05/11/2021 08:49

Hope you are feeling OK @Rule

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 05/11/2021 09:41

So far I'm alright. Definitely not as bad as partner was on day 2. Mostly just a headache and REALLY achey legs.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 05/11/2021 09:42

I mean, in normal circs I'd take Day Nurse and go to school.

Mistressiggi · 05/11/2021 10:16

Well there's a silver lining then, you can't be expected to go in and not give yourself time to recover properly.
Nor work from home!

Proudplantowner · 05/11/2021 21:12

Sorry to hear that @RuleWithAWoodenFoot. Hope you both start to feel better soon.

ChloeDecker · 06/11/2021 07:45

What a beautiful sunrise it was this morning!

Hope you had a good night’s sleep Rule. Hope you can take it easy today.

I just want to do nothing this weekend but of course that’s just not possible Grin

DenbyChina · 06/11/2021 07:46

Oh no rule. Hope you don’t feel too bad!

MsAwesomeDragon · 06/11/2021 08:41

I hope you're still feeling ok rule. I felt shit when I had it, but a couple of friends just had mild cold symptoms when they had it. I felt very hard done by.

Appuskidu · 06/11/2021 09:02

Hope you’re ok, Rule-rest up this weekend and don’t think about work!

eitak22 · 06/11/2021 09:09

I have what I think is a cold (and LFTs have been clear) but have obviously ordered a PCR as had a slightly raised temperature and achy muscles so there goes my weekend plans :(

JanglyBeads · 06/11/2021 10:04

Oh no @eitak22, hope you’re OK.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 06/11/2021 10:37

Feel a bit shitter this morning - much more achey and slack jawed, if you know what I mean. Did a load of stretching this morning to try and get my legs to stop aching, then felt dizzy and sick. Am back on the sofa!

@eitak22 hope it's not 'it'.

JanglyBeads · 06/11/2021 11:38

Sad rule

Appuskidu · 06/11/2021 11:43

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot stay on the sofa!!

Am I right in thinking that despite it being over 6 months since I had my second jab, I can’t have a booster as I’m not 50??

Is that likely to be changed or will the under 50s not be counted as fully jabbed?!

Beachhuts90 · 06/11/2021 11:45

Hugs to everyone feeling unwell. I hope it's short and mild xx

I'm a trainee but I'm salaried so if (when, really, we are overdue) we get Ofsted in I will be teaching. They do know you're a trainee though, right? I hope they would ask about my school's support for me because they're a fantastic training school.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 06/11/2021 11:51

I think so - but try the booking site anyway. Unless you are group 6 or above, then you can book. This changed without announcement, as did updates back at the beginning of vaxes. I just kept checking every day.

I reckon it'll change once the 10m people who are currently eligible, get themselves sorted.

They do know you're a trainee though, right?

Yes - you might not get observed though. Your Head should swerve you. I got observed as an NQT back in the day - we got outstanding at that inspection, I doubt it was anything to do with me!

Appuskidu · 06/11/2021 12:31

Unless you are group 6 or above, then you can book

Can or can’t? I’m presuming I’m not in a group??

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/11/2021 12:33

Can’t at momet. Over 50 and CV (or those usually called for flu jab) I think.

MsAwesomeDragon · 06/11/2021 12:53

I've had my booster because I'm group 6. My older brother can't book his yet because he's under 50. He is past the 6 months from the second jab but has changed jobs since the first set of jabs were done (both IT, both from home since march 20, but he used to be officially NHS, now he's not)
