Sixty-Eighth Republic - still under temporary guardianship…

In the absence of staff and her fabulous thread titles and witty openers here is a 68th thread. The broom cupboard is overflowing so time for another Republic. Hopefully we hear from staff soon.

Stolen from previous threads…
'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

Or maybe I should have drunk LESS coffee? iI don't know....

noblegiraffe · 30/11/2021 21:54

Whatever helps you bang your head against that brick wall, cant

We don’t want schools to close!
Mitigation measures then.
No to mitigation measures, they disrupt education.
Oh, so school closures/no teacher then?
No! Neither! We want schools to be exactly as they were before covid and for that to have zero impact on anything!

They haven’t learned from January…

cantkeepawayforever · 30/11/2021 21:57

There's even reference to vulnerable children for the first time since schools reopened....

noblegiraffe · 30/11/2021 22:22

I wondered where the concern for them had disappeared to.

DanglingMod · 01/12/2021 06:06

Mn is just trolling me/us tonight: air purifier ads everywhere. Am I supposed to spend ÂŁ400 out of my own money now to keep my room safer? Grin

DanglingMod · 01/12/2021 06:06

...this morning, obviously, not tonight...

ChloeDecker · 01/12/2021 06:21

I dream of having an air purifier. I’ve long since concluded that the reason why my CO2 monitor is frequently in the red despite my few windows being already open (and in another classroom i use with no windows and only air con, the CO2 monitor is always red) that it’s having 34 computers generating hot air that is also causing the problem and shows I’ve always constantly been breathing in poor air.
I imagine computer rooms across the country are also the same! It’s appalling that the DfE still think they have recommended enough measures.

Oooh, I have a cheaper solution which has been done in my room. Cut out a giant hole above the ceiling tiles that leads outside. CO2 monitor now doesn’t go over 600 👍🏻 It wasn’t for covid, but I’ve been told it’s a lucky benefit.

Going to treat myself to a PCR later - constant cough, sore throat, difficult to breath in without pain. Negative LFT though but will double check.

DanglingMod · 01/12/2021 06:24

We never got any monitors so no idea there.

No air con in our school but all our PC suites do have windows on a minimum of 2 sides which is better than nothing (and all the other classrooms).

When's the next proper cold snap expected?

DenbyChina · 01/12/2021 06:31

Or even when I breathe in. FFS.

DanglingMod · 01/12/2021 06:36

Sounds rough, whatever it is. Hope you're not too ill Flowers

echt · 01/12/2021 06:38

I have seen an actual air purifier, and it's used in high volume areas, e.g. the canteen. It's always on green while I've been there.

I'm keeping a beady eye on the rocketing schools cases in Melbourne, nowt where I am, and just hoping to get through to the end of teaching next week.

JanglyBeads · 01/12/2021 12:01

Oo yes echt!

Here’s the DfE telling us how schools are going to stay open til the end of term (the fact that they’ve decided they need to state this is surely of note?!)

cornercupboard · 01/12/2021 16:54

On day 5 of covid here, and still as exhausted as at the start. Can't imagine a whole day at school where I usually get 10 minutes lunch. Anyone who's had it, how long until you got your energy back?

JanglyBeads · 01/12/2021 17:11

Sorry to hear that corner. I know many suffer from fatigue for weeks afterwards. I felt bad days 3-6 but went on to feel fine by day 10 onwards… let’s hope you do too.

Came on to post this graph for primary rates in Rushcliffe where there’s an omicron case

Piggywaspushed · 01/12/2021 18:01

I don't think you want my answer corner. Please take it easy and don't ask too much of yourself.

MsAwesomeDragon · 01/12/2021 18:14

I was off school for 2 weeks, but was feeling a bit better by day 10. Not well enough to go to school obviously, but well enough to watch TV and do a bit of planning, go for a dog walk, etc.

LolaSmiles · 01/12/2021 19:14

Like piggy you probably don't want my answer. I'm one of many staff who have had long absence and reduced hours to try to return to the classroom.

I can't stress how important it is to look after your health and not worry about work.

echt · 01/12/2021 19:32

Many Flowers for all you who've had Covid and are still feeling its effects.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 01/12/2021 19:44

Weve had enough CO2 monitors delivered to have one in every classroom! (14)

Is anyone else being asked to record the levels they show 4 times a day? I dont want any more mini admin jobs added to my day. luckily I have y6 so I'll get them to do it!

Piggywaspushed · 01/12/2021 19:54

We have just been given the monitors. No one asks anything. My colleague said hers was high and she was told to open the windows. They were open. She was told to switch it off and back on again.

She got covid...

LolaSmiles · 01/12/2021 20:17

We have an embarrassingly low number of monitors.

JaffavsCookie · 01/12/2021 20:20

My energy is quite a lot better now nearly 3 weeks after diagnosis. Still breathless at times, still the odd bad headache and muscle pain but feeling much less fatigued now ( taught a full day, with before school and brief lunch meetings and am still awake!)

Medra · 01/12/2021 20:37

Hope all is well with everyone. I have been so busy this term that I’ve been lurking and not posting.

We have more kids off with Covid now than last year. It’s started in the staff too.

ChloeDecker · 01/12/2021 21:07
