Sixty-Eighth Republic - still under temporary guardianship…

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/11/2021 16:26

In the absence of staff and her fabulous thread titles and witty openers here is a 68th thread. The broom cupboard is overflowing so time for another Republic. Hopefully we hear from staff soon.

Stolen from previous threads…
'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

Is there any point in the boosters if they don't work against the new varient?

DanglingMod · 28/11/2021 08:06

That's a good point and why it's a precarious time again. Will the new strain become dominant? Will we better off waiting to tweak the vaccine if do?

JanglyBeads · 28/11/2021 09:30

It’s thought they’ll still give some protection.

From BBC website, Javid this morning:

But Mr Javid said the country was "nowhere near" reintroducing measures such as working from home or social distancing, arguing that they carry a "heavy price" economically, socially and in terms of mental health.
He added that he was expecting the government's vaccines advisers to advise him "imminently" on broadening the booster programme to younger age groups

(I wonder if he’ll live to regret the ‘nowhere near’)

Appuskidu · 28/11/2021 10:55

@Mistressiggi

I need to stay off Noble's new thread! All okish now but I suspect will kick off...
Where’s that??
noblegiraffe · 28/11/2021 11:00

Ever so slightly provocative title....but if I'd put it in Education with 'teacher recruitment stats' as the title, nobody would have read it.

It'll be interesting to see how soon he regrets that.

Interesting how the mental heath comment ignores the mental health of families and school staff who have to continue to attend schools with no mitigations.

Do we have a date for masks coming back? Tried to find it on the BBC but appears to not be defined when they are compulsory again.

13luckyblackcats · 28/11/2021 15:01

@eitak22 Tuesday in England, I think. I never stopped, feel like I could be quite an efficient vector given the amount of covid in my school at the moment.

eitak22 · 28/11/2021 16:50

Thanks BlackCats. We're the same in this house, have never stopped wearing them.

Appuskidu · 28/11/2021 17:31

Back to masks in communal school areas, say the DfE.

Lucky that covid doesn’t spread in those pesky classrooms.

namechangedyetagain · 28/11/2021 17:43

Gosh tried to find you all then I realised i was on the SEN board 🙈

Hope everyone is ok, I'm going to catch up tonight before the madness starts again tomorrow 😱

Really lucky, isn't it? Hmm
MrsHamlet · 28/11/2021 18:41

Lucky drama teachers in my school sometimes teach in the corridor

MsAwesomeDragon · 28/11/2021 18:59

We've had masks in corridors for ages. Covid is still rife (slowing down now lots of them have had it recently). It's almost as if covid doesn't restrict itself to just transmitting in corridors.

motherrunner · 28/11/2021 19:30

We’ve had masks in corridors and communal areas since half term. Hasn’t made a difference ... wonder why? 🤔

DollyMixtureLulus · 28/11/2021 19:34

Ah god, this is absolutely shit. How can we be back to square 1?!

Proudplantowner · 28/11/2021 20:27

I wonder if our nativity will go ahead on Wednesday...Confused

13luckyblackcats · 28/11/2021 20:52

I don't normally get Sunday night dread (only 3/4 of a term into teaching so it's all still novel), but I have it today. Ugh.

starrynight19 · 28/11/2021 21:20

Just randomly decided to pop back on here this evening. On a Christmas thread of all things and straight away realised why I don’t Grin. Thought I would come over and say hi. Crazy things are as difficult as ever. Hope your all ok Flowers

noblegiraffe · 28/11/2021 21:22

Starry!! I’ve wondered how you’ve been! Hope all is well.

Plodding along got a teen at home with covid as we speak , saw your other thread. Same old nonsense I see , glad your still posting regardless Smile
WhenSheWasBad · 28/11/2021 21:56

How are you doing name hope all is well.

Sorry about the Covid ridden teen starry

I’ve spent the weekend decorating the house for Christmas. I am now utterly knackered. It’s going to feel like a long week.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/11/2021 22:02

Back to school for me tomorrow after 3 weeks off with covid which played merry havoc with my breathing (asthmatic) for a while.
Luckily I have a part time student who is teaching one lesson so it isnt a full day of lessons but nearly. I know I'm 95% better and that I need to pace myself a bit still.

noblegiraffe · 28/11/2021 23:03

Sorry about the covidy boy, starry.

Yep, still doing the threads! Feel free to swing by anytime (or stick to the Republic for sanity…)

noblegiraffe · 28/11/2021 23:04

Take care Maddie and don’t push yourself.

Iamnotthe1 · 29/11/2021 06:41

So much for the mask mandidate. Again, there's only three people wearing masks in a busy large city train station. On my train, I'm the only one.

Yet these are the very people who will moan if there's little choice but to lock down again.
