In the absence of staff and her fabulous thread titles and witty openers here is a 68th thread. The broom cupboard is overflowing so time for another Republic. Hopefully we hear from staff soon.

Stolen from previous threads…
'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

Does this mean that nobody will ever die of covid after March as there will be no testing done unless you pay!?

That’s one way to instantly solve your country’s terrible covid numbers, I guess.

noblegiraffe · 14/11/2021 13:54

Ramping down free covid testing in order to funnel people into the paid-for covid testing labs that are flogging people's DNA to 3rd parties?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 14/11/2021 16:14

I've seen 4 tweets this weekend from Heads pushed out by ofsted abd general pressure. All leaving teaching completely. Eek.

And yes to stockpiling LFTs.

DanglingMod · 14/11/2021 17:44

Just looked at tomorrow's cover email 🙈

stravagante · 14/11/2021 17:59

@DanglingMod oh no. I hope it isn't too bad.

13luckyblackcats · 14/11/2021 18:03

We get ours at 8.30am on the day @DanglingMod. Dreading it.

Mistressiggi · 14/11/2021 18:08

Do you find out how many staff are off with Covid? Obviously not names but just numbers? We don't. Quite excited to be able to book my booster today (it's not for weeks, but got it booked).

LolaSmiles · 14/11/2021 18:33

We don't get officially told who is off with covid, but it's not a secret by the time someone has been off for over a week and they've probably told people they're friendly with.

stravagante · 14/11/2021 19:02

Our day starts at 8.30!

We get cover via email at 7am but you can access the spreadsheet anytime to check. We had several teachers off before half term with covid (including me) but only 1 off at the moment which is an improvement.

ChloeDecker · 14/11/2021 19:18

Our day starts at 8:05, when we have to take registration in Form Time. So many schools along our large road that we have always had different start and end times to accommodate not having thousands and thousands of Secondary kids getting home fighting at the same time. It’s why MPs need to back off when it comes to the school day, in my opinion.

First we usually hear about cover is when that evil yellow box pops up on Sims. We have so many staff out currently but couldn’t say for obvious reasons if they are all covid related. Definitely all illness related though.

DanglingMod · 14/11/2021 19:33

No, not officially. We do tend to know all the staff cases though.

Of course, the cover list will look even worse by the morning...

JanglyBeads · 14/11/2021 19:47

So what time do you have to call in by if sick @stravagante??

DanglingMod · 14/11/2021 19:57

Ours is call between 6.45-7.30. I get to school at 7.20 and always know who's off by then (extra to the day before email).

stravagante · 14/11/2021 20:05

We can email - the earlier the better. Emergency cover requests are supposed to be in by 7.30am where possible.

I’ve seen this too Rule. What a time to be a head. First Covid then Ofsted madness.

8.05 is an early day Chloe what time is last period? We start at 8.20, which seems kind of early. We have very long form times after lunch though. So we don’t finish early.

Mistressiggi · 14/11/2021 23:12

Whenshewasbad form time must be part of contact time though, surely? So the children shouldn't have to spend longer in school than they do anywhere else? (Is it a private school?)

ChloeDecker · 15/11/2021 06:19

Our last period is at 3pm When. Thankfully, no afternoon registration! That just gets done in the period 5 lesson.

DenbyChina · 15/11/2021 06:26

Doesn't just feel like Heads - there is a huge amount of teaching jobs up for English at the moment. I get it as well - I'm exhausted beyond normal and struggling to get everything done. I worked all day yesterday and still didn't get through my to-do list. This evening is a write off as well with our useless leaders meeting. God knows when I'll manage to get it all done.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/11/2021 06:52

So the supply teacher covering my class while I'm off with covid has just had a positive lft. I'm supposed to be back soon as I'm on day 8 of isolation but the way my breathing was last night im not going to be.

This is the worst that covid has affected our school to date with the number of (primary) pupils affected and now I think that the 4th member of staff in a staff of 25.

DanglingMod · 15/11/2021 07:03

Two weeks before last half term was our worst period of the pandemic for pupil absence. Last and this week the worst for staff absence.

JanglyBeads · 15/11/2021 07:31

Take care of DrMaddie, rest and rest.

JanglyBeads · 15/11/2021 07:31

Well ok I didn’t mean the “of” but that works too!

CallmeHendricks · 15/11/2021 13:40

We are meant to call the Head's mobile as early as we can, but if she doesn't answer, it's OK to leave a message/text.
You then just have to assume it's got through.

Appuskidu · 15/11/2021 16:10

Hooray for boosters being rolled out to the over 40s. It would have been nice to be prioritised alongside health and care workers, but that seems unlikely to ever happen, so at least it’s something.

Agreed. I'll be 6 months after the second next week. Just shy of 50. Still can't book though....
