In the absence of staff and her fabulous thread titles and witty openers here is a 67th thread. The broom cupboard is overflowing so time for another Republic. Hopefully we hear from staff soon.

Stolen from thread 66.
'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

Fancy seeing how much you should be earning if teacher pay had kept up with inflation since 2003?

ChloeDecker · 07/10/2021 22:06

Wow noble. I did start teaching in 2003 and it’s shocking to see I’m down just under £12k per year Shock

I started teaching in 2000.

That is shocking!

motherrunner · 08/10/2021 04:48

But no point complaining as our hourly rate must be a billions pounds per hour seeing as we work 9-3.

Seriously? Get to fuck. We’ve got the vaccination team in today and they won’t be vaccinating anyone without consent. Some people just love any opportunity to exhibit their self-importance.

Is he one of the majority of mps who are millionaires?

Absolutely

www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/jan/03/tory-mp-nadhim-zahawi-owns-property-worth-more-than-25m

And a shit MP to boot (was mine for some years).

borntobequiet · 08/10/2021 07:07

(If the majority actually are)

CallmeHendricks · 08/10/2021 07:59

@noblegiraffe, Interesting but my schools IT filter has denied me access to that pay scale/inflation page!
I managed to open it OK at home earlier.

UNISON Fb post today:

More schools reintroduce COVID-19 restrictions
Councils across the country are advising schools to reintroduce restrictions amid a rise in coronavirus infections, with Devon County Council "encouraging" all secondary school pupils to wear face masks in communal areas and City of Wolverhampton Council requesting that students wear masks. Meanwhile Cumbria County Council's director of public health said children should self-isolate if a sibling tests positive, and Staffordshire County Council presented teachers with a list of "recommended controls" for students. Haringey Council advised that "additional temporary preventive measures" are being put in place, while Peterborough City Council told parents that head teachers have the right to "refuse access to school to protect other pupils and staff from possible infection with COVID-19."

TheHoneyBadger · 08/10/2021 10:24

It still amuses me that they think classrooms aren't communal areas. I'm trying to think of a non communal area of our school bar the HT and a few DHs offices.

JanglyBeads · 08/10/2021 11:19

I think to be fair in the Covid context “communal” means an area where you mix with a far wider group of people than normal. Classes are taken as your normal mixing group.

I know, I know…..

JanglyBeads · 08/10/2021 12:14

I think this article must surely be wrong - it says that even the area with largest percentage of 16-17yos jabbed (Rutland which is tiny, near me) only has 12% done by 26 Sept?

The excellent lonelyplanet has just posted this on Data:

Latest ons data is out. They estimate 6.9% of children in school years 7 to 11 (would have) tested positive in the week up to 2nd October. That's 1 in 14. In a week. On the upside (for those of you who think gaining herd immunity in this manner is a good idea), this is a 14 week term so everyone should have had it by Christmas.

noblegiraffe · 08/10/2021 13:29

Yep Jan, it’s insane in secondary, highest it’s ever been by miles.

Weirdly not seeing the same growth in primary. Still high but not exploding.

And dropping in sixth form/uni age. Vaccine effect?

Unacceptable that the govt are leaving it to county councils to allow mitigating measures in schools. This leaves schools open to hassle from the anti-maskers if they decide to act unilaterally. Not that the measures should ever have been removed in the first place.

JanglyBeads · 08/10/2021 14:14

I think primary is certainly starting to grow, seeing a lot of parents with “only half of my Y4 son’s class is in” etc?

phlebasconsidered · 08/10/2021 14:22

Primary is growing where I am, especially 5/6. However, there is no testing I can see. I definitely caught it from my class! Many of them were in with "just a cold" and I know full well parents were not testing.

WarriorN · 08/10/2021 14:39

Hello, sorry I fell off the threads/ lost the key to the broom cupboard.

I've found back to normal extremely hard and school no better! Plus dealing with a lot of extra life stuff. Plus a nasty normal chest infection 🙄

I also hope Staff is ok. And all of you. I've attempted to read occasionally and remember a discussion about positive lft and negative pcrs. I just saw this on twitter:

Sixty Seventh Republic - under temporary guardianship
WarriorN · 08/10/2021 14:42

The outbreak at my son's first school saw around 12 kids in one class with no or very mild symptoms. Pcr so no lft done.

Sensible parents all got tests one weekend after a couple of cases in class.

It's possible primary cases aren't being picked up. Especially if pcrs aren't picking up the virus!

WarriorN · 08/10/2021 14:43

(Obviously in our case the pcrs did work!)

WarriorN · 08/10/2021 14:45

inews.co.uk/news/covid-lateral-flow-tests-negative-pcr-1236141

They also say some of the individuals finally tested positive on a PCR on the third or fourth attempt.

WarriorN · 08/10/2021 14:53

Ps we've always had co2 monitors apparently.

JanglyBeads · 08/10/2021 14:56

👋 Warrior! Nice to see you
