In the absence of staff and her fabulous thread titles and witty openers here is a 67th thread. The broom cupboard is overflowing so time for another Republic. Hopefully we hear from staff soon.

Stolen from thread 66.
'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

  • Deepti G on the horrifying figures, also admits she can’t tell difference between real Boris on Twitter and parody Boris on Twitter!
DanglingMod · 04/10/2021 16:57

What an utterly ridiculous analysis by that person from Northants PH. Do they really think people are that thick?!

MsAwesomeDragon · 04/10/2021 17:23

Thanks for the new thread herc.

I've got year 7 settling in parents evening tonight. So I'm still at school, waiting for my 2 appointments with parents from my form. It's only for parents who have concerns about how their child is settling in at secondary school. I've got one coming about an anxious child so I can happily reassure that parent that things are getting better every day. And one parent coming in about a child who has been in trouble quite a lot already and I need to politely tell them that their child needs to stop messing around and behave properly, otherwise they will spend the next 5 years in and out of detentions. I'm not looking forward to that second one.

JanglyBeads · 04/10/2021 17:52

I know Dwngling, she’s on our local radio station most Tuesday mornings, we hear her en route to school, maybe I should send a pre emotive question in?!

JanglyBeads · 04/10/2021 17:56

Pre-emptive , even

DanglingMod · 04/10/2021 18:08

I would! What a tool!

JanglyBeads · 04/10/2021 18:28

I’ll try- guess I’d have to be anonymous, cos of being school staff?? But can explain I’m staff/parent/ me and DE currently infected.
Have just found this chart on the latest Northants Council Covid report (data at least week old now) which it would surely be impossible for her to talk her way out of?

JanglyBeads · 04/10/2021 18:29

Here we are, having problems posting

Or this graph, Jan where you can clearly see cases in kids rising followed by a rise in adults. Reflect community rates and don’t drive transmission my arse.

Oo thanks noble. Trouble is, even if they put it to her, she’ll just say something pathetic and they won’t challenge it. Be interesting if they got Dr Steve someone or other from the Uni school of nursing to comment (he usually does Wed I think) he’s much more sensible.

JanglyBeads · 04/10/2021 18:51

Will work on it

WhenSheWasBad · 04/10/2021 19:25

Sorry but not shocked you’ve got Covid pleb

Our school is infested with illness. Im pretty sure it’s not all Covid. Attendance figures are poor but still above national average

Sureitwillbegrand · 04/10/2021 20:30

Hope you feel better soon @phlebasconsidered and to everyone else. I have managed *touches head to avoid for now. No community transmission here! She caught it at school Lucy!!

Sureitwillbegrand · 04/10/2021 20:33

@noblegiraffe - Have you heard anything from exam boards regarding Maths exams? I thought we were getting a formula sheet but someone else thought we were getting a list of topics.

FlagsFiend · 05/10/2021 06:46

I thought it's both? For physics it says formula sheet and then we are also apparently going to get some sort of list by February...

motherrunner · 05/10/2021 06:50

Someone on ‘Covid ripping though schools’ thread says it’s unusual for teachers to set work if they’re ill and schools should expect them to do this. Don’t think they can possibly be a teacher - or know one!

Piggywaspushed · 05/10/2021 06:51

Thanks for this herc.

My school is in denial. Load s of coughing staff off for one day ; loads of parents phoning in to say their DCs are 'full of cold'. It feels like they think they will be publicly shamed if they do a Covid test.

I keep emailing various year teams to ask what to do about coughing children and they ignore me.

JanglyBeads · 05/10/2021 07:07

Can’t yet u send them straight to first aid (ie to be sent home) piggy?

I emailed Radio Northampton late last night and will listen with interest to the DPH’s spot later……

Also, I suddenly started feeling perfectly well last night! Let’s hope it lasts. OTOH DS started having huge coughing fits and we decided he isn’t well enough to return to school today.

Piggywaspushed · 05/10/2021 08:38

Nope! They send them back.

TheHoneyBadger · 05/10/2021 10:50

Marking my spot (not in a cat or dog type way).

Well done Herc.

Just back from the maximum security prison (except for keeping people out rather than in) doctor's surgery. Gloves, masks, aprons etc. Door locked and they take your name and check you really do have an appointment and it's no longer than 5 minutes away before they open the door a crack to let you in as if there are a thronging mass of lepers behind you trying to storm the castle Angry

So difficult to contain my resentment that they've been allowed to continue providing a totally inadequate service and sheltering away whilst the rest of us are treated like cannon fodder. I wouldn't be surprise if in the end analysis 'GP' turns out to be the safest profession on earth during the COVID pandemic.

Somehow despite my ugly resentment my BP was still only 100 over 60 something and I shall be allowed to continue HRT and she will 'ask the doctor' if they can make any adjustments to try and get the hot flushes under control. I actually need to see a doctor for several reasons including my previous blood tests showing my thyroid is still low despite medication increase and showed a borderline problem in another area that I've had no advice on but they are off out of reach in an ivory tower somewhere.

Sorry for the ranting. I just can't believe the contrast between our conditions and theirs and that they're getting extra funding etc whilst barely functioning.

Piggywaspushed · 05/10/2021 11:23

The image I now have of you spraying and weeing everywhere!!

Interesting story on BBC today :

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/58790701

My GPs have now gone back to F2F but not for everyone. They mainly phone.

Piggywaspushed · 05/10/2021 11:24

My BP is 140/100....

TheHoneyBadger · 05/10/2021 14:13

Ouch. I do a lot of standing up and then waiting for the world to stop spinning around but apparently unless I'm falling over or passing out it's ok Smile My resting heart rate on the other hand is insanely high.

Is it not embarrassing that a) the nhs needs ancient people to walk round their gardens to raise money and b) only sports players give a shit about education?

borntobequiet · 05/10/2021 14:39

Low blood pressure and high (and very erratic) heart rate was me before I had my cardioversion, and I felt like shit. I don’t think low BP and high RHR is a good combo.

How condescending to “allow” you HRT. If it’s not controlling the hot flushes, you need more oestrogen. I’ve told my GP I’m never stopping it, luckily they’re not arguing atm.

TheHoneyBadger · 05/10/2021 14:52

Yep, I need more oestrogen. It was a total box ticking exercise today. Apart from taking my blood pressure a data entry clerk could have done my appointment I was made to attend with the nurse today. It was all new forms on her system so she was struggling and barely made eye contact. When I was like, well can we alter the hrt? She was all oh I'll send a note through to the doctor and ask him if he'll allow it and I was like hmm and how do I know what's happened etc?

Think it will need chasing, as everything does these days. I thought a hrt review meant an actual review and making adjustments but it was more like a, we had them in and ticked the boxes to say we'd checked BP and weight so we're covered and will get whatever pennies. All very frustrating.
