In the absence of staff and her fabulous thread titles and witty openers here is a 67th thread. The broom cupboard is overflowing so time for another Republic. Hopefully we hear from staff soon.

Stolen from thread 66.
'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

@DanglingMod

Interesting. Obviously we've done that for carers but no way the govt could have insisted for school staff because a) there's already a massive shortage (of carers too but they presume they ARE more easily replaceable) and b) theyve spent the whole pandemic saying there's no Covid in schools Grin
There isn't a teacher shortage in one sense, indeed a number of schools are looking to lay off staff. However the pandemic catch-up initiative, coupled with no overseas teachers coming in means there's a real shortage of casual supply staff.

The latter is how I'll keep my registration next year.

JanglyBeads · 11/10/2021 09:43

Nice to hear from the other side of the world echt!

noblegiraffe · 11/10/2021 11:20

From your article Jan Mrs Wightman added: "It is a big concern is we've got nearly 90 per cent of Northamptonshire secondary schools with two or more cases — which is the definition of an outbreak.

What happened to the 10% definition?

I’m also highly surprised there are any secondary schools that don’t have 2 or more cases.

JanglyBeads · 11/10/2021 11:27

Yes, am not convinced she knows what she’s talking about. She’s using the old definition. Goodness knows which secondaries they are!

Hmm she should be on the radio tomorrow morning…..

TheHoneyBadger · 11/10/2021 15:55

Deliberate trivialising. I don't have a class that doesn't have 2 cases or more. School wise we're well over 10% now.

I'm sitting in my peaceful classroom wondering whether to go home or stay and work. I don't actually have any marking to do by some miracle but could do planning. Have done all follow up paperwork for the day and a duty. I feel like I must be missing something as I haven't left before 5 this term till now.

I'm now officially the only person in my department not to have had any time off yet.

Oh and I skilfully dealt with a wasp today which is now trapped under a mug on the floor - not sure whether to release it.

JanglyBeads · 11/10/2021 16:18

Living life on the edge Honey!

Even Christina Pagel’s noticed our local DPH’s dubious pronouncements and seeming change of view now:

WhenSheWasBad · 11/10/2021 17:42

Impressive wasp skills honey

Our school is dealing with Covid and an absolute bastard of a cold (maybe it’s flu?).

Loads of staff off sick and even more in but clearly very ill.

JanglyBeads · 11/10/2021 17:50

Have any of them had positive lateral flow tests but negative PCRs, when?

phlebasconsidered · 11/10/2021 18:45

A friend of mine has just messaged me angry that she is now positive, blaming me for contiunuing to send my kids into school. So of course that's where her child caught it, not from the hundreds of others kids. I could explain to her the fragility of her argument, but instead i've just blocked her. Blame the government- not me

Hercisback · 11/10/2021 18:46

Bloody hell phleb that's some friend.

MrsHamlet · 11/10/2021 18:46

She sounds like an arse

phlebasconsidered · 11/10/2021 18:55

Not a friend anymore! Ruthlessly blocked!

JanglyBeads · 11/10/2021 19:50

Phleb that’s awful, and not what you need atm.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 11/10/2021 21:05

Definitely a rubbish friend phleb. Well rid!

MsAwesomeDragon · 11/10/2021 21:14

@phlebasconsidered

Fellow covidees- how many of you have made it back after the ten days? I am due back on Friday but I am still wobbly on my legs, wheezy when doing anything other than sitting and napping all day. I think I might risk the wrath of the head and go for another week to take me to half term. I've only ever had an odd day here or there before. My year 6 will completely have screwed division up with a supply for that long.
I had an extra 2 days after my official isolation was over. I was exhausted and just couldn't stay awake for a full day, let alone teach all day. A colleague is now on her 3rd week off, and is signed off til half term. I think it's very normal to still be ill at the end of the 10 days. Take the time you need. Rushing back before you're ready will delay your full recovery. Ime the GP was very happy to sign me of for as long as I needed. I didn't even need to speak to anyone, it was all done by econsult and email.
MsAwesomeDragon · 11/10/2021 21:18

I'm glad you blocked her already phleb. I disagree with the rule that household contacts don't have to isolate, but that is the rule. Of course everybody is sending kids to school with a positive parent, that's what we've been told we have to do!!!! There are loads of places she and her kids could have caught it.

WhenSheWasBad · 11/10/2021 21:32

phleb that’s shocking. Glad you blocked them.

Jangly negative on lateral and PCR. It really does just seem like a stinking cold ( no one lost smell or taste). So that means all the staff are run down and Covid still lurks out there for us all to catch. Sad

DanglingMod · 12/10/2021 06:43

Anyone see this thread?

Seems interesting that test and trace are sometimes asking for school contacts and obviously, and as predicted, child/family cannot pass on these details!

twinkletoesimnot · 12/10/2021 06:52

That's mad.
What's also mad is that my daughter's best friend's mum offered our details but was told it wasn't necessary.
She asked them if dd had been round their house would it count and they said that yes, then it would be different.
Have done a PCR anyway but no symptoms and neg lateral flows so far, so 🤞🏻.
Now yesterday the boy did sits next to on the bus is positive.
It's only a matter of time ....

Piggywaspushed · 12/10/2021 06:52

Such are the consequences when they pass contact tracing over. They didn't trust schools with it because we were 'over zealous' - otherwise known as effective.

I suspect someone senior at T and T thought all the yummy mummies knew each others' details. When I used to go to DSs' cricket matches against very very posh schools , I was always astonished by how much the parents all properly knew each other, and how matey they were with teachers.

twinkletoesimnot · 12/10/2021 06:53

That should be the boy DS sits next to....

AttaGirrrrl · 12/10/2021 08:12

The T&T stuff is ridiculous. I feel particularly bad for our Deputy, who spent months painstakingly checking seating plans and sending groups home (lots of difficult conversations, obviously) and now has to watch as covid rips through the school.

JanglyBeads · 12/10/2021 10:00

Yes you’re right there, Atta
