Will post this on the end of the other thread too but I have just found this:

If you are identified as a contact and asked to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace, including by the NHS COVID-19 app you may be entitled to a payment of £500 from your local authority under the Test and Trace Support Payment scheme. If you are the parent or guardian of a child who has been told to self-isolate you may also be entitled to this payment.

^Presumably that is all of the 'thought' that has gone into the situation I've been talking about. Still doesn't tell us if we would be seen as taking unauthorised leave or able to work from home or anything - need union specific advice on that.

I had a poundal question in my Further Maths exercise today. It begins!

What are other schools doing for Y6 Open Evening? Our plan seems to be back to normal which might be a bit of a shock to any parent who works in a nice empty office. It’s usually a mad crush.

DanglingMod · 16/09/2021 21:32

Yep. Completely back to normal for open evening.

And worse than normal, actually: three local secondaries including us have open evenings all on the same night, but with staggered starts, so we are expecting 500 people plus through in one hour, not even three... Shock

cantkeepawayforever · 16/09/2021 21:45

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot

Well, the child allegedly going to specialist provision (behaviour), has been rejected by the only local option because they can't meet his needs. So they are sending him back to us... because mainstream apparently will be able to meet those needs. I mean, what the actual fuck? He's 3-1 most days just to keep him safe, based on 90 minutes in the building. He never makes it to my classroom.
I had this a couple of years ago. Child's (learning) needs were too severe to be met in special school (MLD / MALD), so he was returned to mainstream....proper facepalm moment.
DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/09/2021 22:12

All y6 high school visits are virtual still here. But we still have masks in shops etc in Wales too.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 16/09/2021 22:24

Not a woman, just another bloke.

Yes, that was my first thought. Oh look, another middle aged white man. Nadhim might at least have an understanding of being part of a minority. No one in ed yet who will have an understanding of being a girl in a school. Even in a private girl's school.

noblegiraffe · 16/09/2021 23:32

Naz has written an open letter to teachers basically saying “I’m not Gav” with a nice bit about how teachers helped him when he arrived in England aged 9 with poor English

JanglyBeads · 16/09/2021 23:52

Apparently all secondaries in our town are making a joint decision about open evenings. Sounds sensible.

echt · 17/09/2021 04:12
Blaming.
motherrunner · 17/09/2021 04:35

We will be having a sixth form Open Evening as usual. ‘Yr 6’ Open Evening has already passed as being a grammar we hold the OE’s in summer term of Yr 5 due to the 11+.

DD is in Yr 6. We’re attending a virtual open day Saturday. Most schools in the LEA are virtual.

ChloeDecker · 17/09/2021 06:08

I will be meeting as many of you as possible in the coming months, so that I can hear from you about your work, your plans for the future, and how we can unlock the potential of the nation together.
This speaks volumes about Nadhim’s acknowledgement of education staff experience and knowledge and looks really promising.

Thank you for saying thank you Nadhim. We don’t get to hear that a lot.

Saucery · 17/09/2021 06:14

I’ll put a feeling of Fine words butter no parsnips to one side and take Mr Zahawi’s statement at face value.

borntobequiet · 17/09/2021 06:53

I don’t like the man or his politics, but it’s true they could have found far worse.

Normal face to face parents evening for y6 at ds's school last night. They have reported at least 12 covid cases in school in the last 2 weeks.

That's shocking. We take those children but seem to be a rare type of Sen school. As we have children of mainstream academic ability if it weren't for the other difficulties they have.

Whole sale Inclusion at the cost of specialist schools was a terrible policy.

echt · 17/09/2021 08:34

Today I start my last school holiday ever. A two-week break in lockdown Melbourne Hmm and the last time I'll have a last Sunday of the holiday thinking about what I'll be teaching on Monday.

Then eight weeks of classes.......then off.

Mistressiggi · 17/09/2021 10:52

Oh wow the countdown is really on! Imagine a life with Sunday night not feeling any different than any other night. It will be great!!

DreamingofBrie · 17/09/2021 15:45

Exciting, echt! I have family homeschooling in lockdown in Sydney at the moment too, they are not enjoying it.

Beautiful day today. I was off and enjoyed seeing friends.

JanglyBeads · 17/09/2021 17:27

Apparently the Winter Plan contains the news that LFTs will definitely not be free by next year....

What a day. Fire drill first thing. Goodness.

Nothing surprises me any more about this shower of shite. It’s all so depressing!

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/09/2021 18:42

We had a fire drill on Monday. It didn't go particularly well. We pride ourselves on silent fire drills, but apparently the children have forgotten (or never learnt) this over covid. So lots of talking, the bell didn't go off in one corridor so a couple of teachers and several kids didn't hear it so didn't go out and NOBODY NOTICED!!!

We had another one yesterday, due to a fault in the system. That one was significantly better, as we actually accounted for all staff and pupils.

TheHoneyBadger · 17/09/2021 19:04

I’m quite encouraged by Zahawi’s letter.

Rule it’s so nice to hear you’re enjoying your job again.

I’m tired and cold and waiting on takeaway

Meant to say doh to your fire drill mrsAD! Not a huge success then 🙈

OP posts:
MsAwesomeDragon · 17/09/2021 19:09

No, not a huge success. I mean, for a school who thinks they're the bees knees, it was rather crap tbh.

Nearly at the finish line!
