Will post this on the end of the other thread too but I have just found this:

If you are identified as a contact and asked to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace, including by the NHS COVID-19 app you may be entitled to a payment of £500 from your local authority under the Test and Trace Support Payment scheme. If you are the parent or guardian of a child who has been told to self-isolate you may also be entitled to this payment.

^Presumably that is all of the 'thought' that has gone into the situation I've been talking about. Still doesn't tell us if we would be seen as taking unauthorised leave or able to work from home or anything - need union specific advice on that.

@echt

Today I start my last school holiday ever. A two-week break in lockdown Melbourne Hmm and the last time I'll have a last Sunday of the holiday thinking about what I'll be teaching on Monday.

Then eight weeks of classes.......then off.

That's so exciting!!!! You're on the proper countdown now!
PumpkinPie2016 · 17/09/2021 20:00

Wow, that was a hectic week 🥵 not been on here all week so not had a chance to catch up. I hope everyone is ok!

A couple of staff absences (thankfully short lived), MA work and MiL in hospital has not made for a relaxing week due to not really being able to get organised last weekend.

Utterly shattered tonight -honestly feel like I have run the marathon!

On a positive note, had some lovely lessons, especially today and with Y7. MA stuff is really interesting despite the challenge of squeezing it in.

Hoping to breathe and get organised this weekend and hopefully next week will be easier.

"It’s worth noting on this that Zahawi is close to Robert Halfon, Chair of the Education Select Committee, who has been pushing a more dramatic overhaul of assessment, potentially even scrapping GCSEs. It will be interesting to see how influential he is on Zahawi’s thinking."

Oh no.

I'm reading that Gav is tipped for a knighthood. What.

Fenelladepompom · 18/09/2021 07:54

For services to what, exactly?

JanglyBeads · 18/09/2021 08:32

😨!

Just remembered ONS weekly report yesterday shows by far the steepest rise In infection rate is in secondary children. They suggest something like 2.7% infected last week.

Saucery · 18/09/2021 08:42

For services to not blabbing whatever grubby little secrets he has about senior politicians?

This.
noblegiraffe · 18/09/2021 09:36

Did you see the thread saying the shielding programme was officially ended last week an it was hidden behind the reshuffle? Not just paused anymore, gone. Which means if covid is ravaging a school, no extra protections.

noblegiraffe · 18/09/2021 10:03

How have I not heard of Langley, 'The Michaela of the Midlands'?

This promotional video is ..... interesting twitter.com/pete___lee/status/1438856964805648386?s=21

13luckyblackcats · 18/09/2021 10:08

@noblegiraffe wow.

13luckyblackcats · 18/09/2021 10:24

What's with the cravat-looking things on the girls?

noblegiraffe · 18/09/2021 10:29

I was just about to post that, 13...it looks weird and uncomfortable under their shirts!

I also think it's a bit unfortunate that they are all wearing Q badges because it just reminds me of QAnon protests.

ChloeDecker · 18/09/2021 10:32

Just watched that video. I look at that school and I am a little envious at how new and white and big everything is. I’ve never actually taught in a school that wasn’t in an old victorian style or 70s style building/set of buildings with narrow corridors/stairs that can’t accommodate the number if children properly, higgledy piggledy furniture and lots of areas that need maintenance. Even the current computers I teach with are more than 10 years old and not of the same style as each other.
Oh to have shiny new facilities!

MrsHamlet · 18/09/2021 11:01

That is deeply odd. I really dislike the "best behaved pupils in Sandwell" as well.

JanglyBeads · 18/09/2021 11:07

And what on earth do “Slant” and “Unslant” mean, in the classroom? They may have wide corridors but t apparently for no reason, only one class plus Sir walk through them at a time.

noblegiraffe · 18/09/2021 11:10

SLANT is "Sit up, Lean forward, Ask and answers questions, Nod your head and Track the speaker"

I'm not sure I want an entire class nodding at me.

The teachers in the video are all so shiny.

MrsHamlet · 18/09/2021 11:12

Not sure how autistic students will cope with slanting.

JanglyBeads · 18/09/2021 11:18

So is SLANT more widely used noble?

Looked at a job ad on their website. Among the staff benefits listed are

“· Fun & interesting weekly staff incentives (weekly prizes, surprises and rewards following the previous week);

· Complimentary breakfast and lunch (Family Breakfast and Family Lunch is shared with students, who serve one another);“

I wonder what the prizes are....

JanglyBeads · 18/09/2021 11:19

And how much fun is had by staff at breakfast and lunch

noblegiraffe · 18/09/2021 11:20

Not really, Jan, only in the most Michaela-ey of schools.

noblegiraffe · 18/09/2021 11:23

I don't want fun and surprises tbh, I'd want decent working conditions. I remember when I worked very briefly cold-calling people to sell double glazing (I know, I know, I was 18 and needed the money). They had 'fun and surprises' because the job was totally shit.

JanglyBeads · 18/09/2021 11:39

If you don’t nod do they cut your head off?

JanglyBeads · 18/09/2021 11:40

Mother might know about it as it’s near her isn’t it?
