Will post this on the end of the other thread too but I have just found this:

If you are identified as a contact and asked to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace, including by the NHS COVID-19 app you may be entitled to a payment of £500 from your local authority under the Test and Trace Support Payment scheme. If you are the parent or guardian of a child who has been told to self-isolate you may also be entitled to this payment.

^Presumably that is all of the 'thought' that has gone into the situation I've been talking about. Still doesn't tell us if we would be seen as taking unauthorised leave or able to work from home or anything - need union specific advice on that.

Love that bbc clip!

Appuskidu · 15/09/2021 21:12

Nick Gibb is going as well!

noblegiraffe · 15/09/2021 21:18

OMG I audibly gasped reading that, Appu, DH asked what on earth I'd read.

Incredible.

noblegiraffe · 15/09/2021 21:26

Halfon had better not get schools minister.

ChloeDecker · 15/09/2021 21:40

@noblegiraffe

Halfon had better not get schools minister.
That made me just throw up a little!
TheHoneyBadger · 15/09/2021 21:47

Musical chairs - still not actually going hmm, whose actually got some relevant experience and might be vaguely qualified to be the minister for x?

Been so busy I haven't even read any news, just this thread. Thanks for keeping me updated 😂

TheHoneyBadger · 16/09/2021 07:08

I often get my news exclusively from republicans. I don’t know who half of the people are in Tory politics and edunews so the potted version is perfect for me.

borntobequiet · 16/09/2021 09:28

I get an awful lot of my news and current affairs from Mumsnet and links therefrom. It’s pretty much a family joke, except that I’m often the best informed on an issue.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 16/09/2021 09:33

Yep, I get mine from Twitter and a politics forum I've been posting on for 20 years. That started as a travel forum, so is really international - I got real time updates on 9/11 from people in NYC when all the news websites were crashing. It's less active now - the same people posting for 20 years in a closed community, some have died, lots have just grown up a bit!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 16/09/2021 09:36

Hahahahaha.. seen this?

I linked to that DM article on my new thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4349824-Antivaxxers-targeting-kids-and-schools-with-harassment-and-abuse schools really are in the firing line here through no fault of our own. The DM never passes up a chance to have a go at teachers but that effort is particularly vile.

God, I didn’t think of that. Bloody hope not.
MrsHerculePoirot · 16/09/2021 12:16

Checking in!

Oh sorry. Only just saw it this morning. Did not click on link.

I'm enjoying my job at the moment - first time in probably 5 years I think. Reasonable class, with issues that I know I can work with (ie, academic, or 'things' that will ultimately be diagnosed and can be managed), a proper day with some breaks in it, topics I've taught before so can reduce planning load, a GREAT classroom LSA. Am managing to get nearly all my classroom-teacher work done during the school day, only using time at home to do stuff for my management TLR. Don't mind that too much.

First two years at this job were covid fucked. Last 2 years at my previous job were so impacted by a toxic individual, that they were mostly crap.

Probably this post will come back to bite me in the butt.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 16/09/2021 15:21

I will keep my fingers crossed for you @RuleWithAWoodenFoot. Until the 3rd day of term, I could have written your post almost word for word then a new child arrived!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/09/2021 19:21

Don't say that! My glass are lovely but I'm getting 2 separate new children on Monday.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 16/09/2021 19:23

Fingers crossed I took the hit on this one and you either get straight forward ones or ones with paperwork, funding and support all already sorted.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 16/09/2021 19:24

Well, the child allegedly going to specialist provision (behaviour), has been rejected by the only local option because they can't meet his needs. So they are sending him back to us... because mainstream apparently will be able to meet those needs. I mean, what the actual fuck? He's 3-1 most days just to keep him safe, based on 90 minutes in the building. He never makes it to my classroom.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 16/09/2021 19:26

I had a nice new kid back in June. This year so far he's been atrocious.

WhenSheWasBad · 16/09/2021 19:38

Well, the child allegedly going to specialist provision (behaviour), has been rejected by the only local option because they can't meet his needs. So they are sending him back to us

That’s awful rule poor him, poor you and poor the rest of the class.

Nick Gibb is now Robin Walker (not Halfon phew)

Robin Walker facts:

Privately educated at a single sex school)
Oxbridge (Ancient and Modern History)
Not a woman, just another bloke.

Nick Gibb was sacked, what does this mean? He wasn't in the headlines for the exams fiasco or anything so were they not happy with him and want a new direction? Bin phonics and introduce a more holistic curriculum?

Iamnotthe1 · 16/09/2021 20:22

At least he's someone with an interest in education. He worked under Nicky Morgan when she was Ed.Sec. and is part of the cross-party group calling for better/fairer school funding.

I feel (fingers crossed) that this one could have been worse.

He’ll be responsible for the reintroduction of Imperial units into the Science and Maths specifications, I expect. Bring on the poundals and working out how many bushels in a ton.
