Will post this on the end of the other thread too but I have just found this:

If you are identified as a contact and asked to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace, including by the NHS COVID-19 app you may be entitled to a payment of £500 from your local authority under the Test and Trace Support Payment scheme. If you are the parent or guardian of a child who has been told to self-isolate you may also be entitled to this payment.

^Presumably that is all of the 'thought' that has gone into the situation I've been talking about. Still doesn't tell us if we would be seen as taking unauthorised leave or able to work from home or anything - need union specific advice on that.

Deputy PM is a demotion, apparently, according to the news I heard earlier on the radio.

Iamnotthe1 · 15/09/2021 16:52

His demotion is from Foreign Sec. (Top 4) to Justice Sec. (Not top 4). He was already the defacto deputy PM: they are just titling it that way now because they've moved him.

Saucery · 15/09/2021 16:55

Ah right, I was doing 20 minutes of hill starts on the ballache of a journey home from work, so must have lost concentration as my clutch leg went numb Grin

Monkeytennis97 · 15/09/2021 17:06

Nadeem Zahari

Monkeytennis97 · 15/09/2021 17:07

I'll have to learn to spell his name oops

noblegiraffe · 15/09/2021 17:11

I went "huh" instead of "Urgh" on hearing his name so I guess that's not a bad start.

Saucery · 15/09/2021 17:40

@Monkeytennis97

Nadeem Zahari
I think it might be him so that the thin veneer of confidence in the fact he is Vaccines Minister might steer them through the tricky situation of getting 12-15 yr Olds vaccinated.
Iamnotthe1 · 15/09/2021 17:42

I went "urgh". He'll be just as crap: nothing but a party laptop.

It'll be because he's seen to have had success with the vaccine rollout but, actually, the success they've had isn't their own to claim and our rollout has been crap in the last few months, definitely not world-leading/beating.

Saucery · 15/09/2021 17:46

If the pandemic had a political fall guy, it was always likely to be Mr Williamson - often the lightning rod for irritation and exasperation from families facing disruption and seeing U-turns on schools and exams.

From BBC News, ‘Where did it all go wrong for Gavin Williamson?’
Not sure painting him as a wronged party in the catastrophe he made of schools is entirely true Hmm

Iamnotthe1 · 15/09/2021 17:49

He's known for dodgy dealings and not declaring his personal financial interests when serving on boards that make decisions which could directly benefit him financially.

He, as a landlord, voted against the Labour bill to make rent homes "fit for human habitation" and he tried to mislead parliament/the public by suggesting that families wanted to pay something towards food for their kids rather than get free school meals (during the FSM during holidays vote).

In short, he's a dick.

CarrieBlue · 15/09/2021 18:10

In short, he's a dick.

In short, he’s a Tory. Still not got anyone’s best interests at heart, other than their own.

JanglyBeads · 15/09/2021 18:29

Oh but did anyone hear Sam Freedman’s assessment of him on PM at about 5.30? Followed by Angela Raynor’s quoted assessment. Radio Gold.

WhenSheWasBad · 15/09/2021 18:35

Wish I’d heard that. I’m glad Gav’s gone but his replacement probably won’t be much of an improvement

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/09/2021 18:45

the success they've had isn't their own to claim

Indeed.

I'm off to find Sam Freedman's assessment.

DreamingofBrie · 15/09/2021 18:46

Just checking in. Not in school now until Monday Smile, have a list of things as long as my arm to do before then, though!

JanglyBeads · 15/09/2021 18:47

BBC iPlayer, it’ll be 30 mins into the PM prog on R4.
You won’t be sorry.

JanglyBeads · 15/09/2021 18:49

Sorry, BBC Sounds:

@33:19.
“The worst Secretary of State for Education this country as ever had, and I don’t think many in the sector would disagree with that.... He’s not going to be missed by pretty much anyone at all.”

Then Raynor, then Halfon trying to defend him.

noblegiraffe · 15/09/2021 18:56

Halfon defending Gav? What? Surely the chair of the Ed select committee is fully aware of what a shit job he has done?

Fenelladepompom · 15/09/2021 18:58

Patel still in post then? The rumours got my hopes up.

Iamnotthe1 · 15/09/2021 19:01

Yeah, Bozza needs her to sack later.

Fenelladepompom · 15/09/2021 19:06

True.

noblegiraffe · 15/09/2021 19:06

Oh I do love Sam Freedman.

WhenSheWasBad · 15/09/2021 19:50

Just listened to bbc sounds.

Wow both scathing and accurate. Thanks for the links
