You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Got an invitation for an Ipso/Mori PCR test to be taken mid Sept. To assess the prevalence of Covid in the population. Bring it on, I’ll be in one of the most likely places to catch it then.

Mistressiggi · 25/08/2021 18:27

Lots of pupils off either isolating or with Covid at the moment. More than I remember seeing at any other time tbh. I feel it is only a matter of time just now - hopefully mild dose but I can't see how I can avoid it in the crowds I'm in and with so many "chin" mask wearers! Who posted that link that led me to a photo of John Swinney?

JanglyBeads · 25/08/2021 18:41

Sorry mistress, that was me!

honey, have I discovered your side hustle?

Yeah no webcams, no mics, no WiFi.

When it was fully live lessons, staff brought their own laptops in or taught live from home. School tech is woeful.

You know Amazon will keep giving you recommendations of sweary things now, Jan? Wink

DD had her Covid jab yesterday, at the local vacc centre. There were lots of 16-17 year olds there. I resisted the very strong urge to tell one cool dude to pull his trousers up as they were causing his bottom to hang out. And one woman turned up with no mask on which caused me to mutter quite a lot.
I am going into school tomorrow and that's the first time I've thought about it or done any work. We've 2 inset days next week totally pointless as usual and then back to actual normal on 6th. Saw a Scottish school on the lunchtime news having an actual assembly, all kids in person in the hall - not looking forward to going back to that.

JanglyBeads · 25/08/2021 19:24

Ah. Hadn’t thought of that mistress.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 25/08/2021 19:31

If I'm symptomatic enough to test for covid and then come back positive I will be telling work I'm ill, even if I'm well enough to be put upon to ask for work. I am NOT providing it from home if I'm officially ill.

MrsHamlet · 25/08/2021 19:57

I'd like to apologise now on behalf of everyone delivering inset. I know it's shit and you want to get on with the job. Me too!

ChloeDecker · 25/08/2021 20:05

@noblegiraffe

Who voted good? 👀 (you will be unsurprised to hear I voted terrible).
Very shocked at the ‘cannot answer’. I mean Shock

Extract from the letters recurved today by parents of virtually all previously CEV children in England (Welsh parents received a similar letter):

“It is important that your child continues to attend their school or other educational settings. A lack of schooling is known to have a significant negative impact on children, reducing their life chances and making physical and mental health issues worse. All early years providers, schools and colleges are continuing to put in place measures to help minimise the risk of spreading COVID-19.”

JanglyBeads · 25/08/2021 20:22

And then there’s this- Parents United are not going to be impressed:

www.tes.com/news/dfe-hires-attendance-advisers-cut-school-absence-covid?fbclid=IwAR2xg1fiI2JDgj0s1omrxnblz1yPTmb2lKIlzCjWkxox3N2EPe_Zj7Nmrcw

DanglingMod · 25/08/2021 20:31

Well that's an out and out lie, isn't it? There are zero measures in place.

borntobequiet · 25/08/2021 20:34

I wonder if anyone outside of education realises that it's literally doubling our work load

Given they don’t understand the volume of a normal workload, you’re probably right. They think magic technology will do it all.

borntobequiet · 25/08/2021 20:37

Such a lie.

Yeah, very few outwardly care and will conveniently forget all of that when it comes to complaining…

Medra · 25/08/2021 20:49

Checking in from our holiday on the North Yorkshire coast. I have refrained from reading any guidance as it will give me the rage.

@Piggywaspushed I completely understand how you’re feeling. I am so scared either H or I will get Covid again. I’m hoping a dose of it last December plus our jabs will mean we don’t get as ill if we do. H is still not back to normal now.

Appuskidu · 25/08/2021 21:10

It’s interesting that despite so many people saying schools are covid safe and children don’t catch or spread it, those people seem to now be saying schools will be fine as all kids have had it now anyway!

Piggywaspushed · 25/08/2021 21:50

Thanks medra.

It's driving me a bit mad. Why is no one talking openly about how it's all a crock of shit? By which I mean, people I know - not just the normal shouties on Twitter. It's bonkers.. like the emperors new clothes. Just weird.
noblegiraffe · 25/08/2021 22:06

U4T are going to go MAD

twitter.com/hendopolis/status/1430633346518945796?s=21

No parental consent needed to vaccinate 12+? Plans to be drawn up by 4pm Friday. Shock

noblegiraffe · 25/08/2021 22:07

Why is no one talking openly about how it's all a crock of shit?

Was the same last September.

MrsHamlet · 25/08/2021 22:27

Fingers in ears. Lalala not listening, and it all goes away.

noblegiraffe · 25/08/2021 22:44

Yep, U4T mad.

Tbh, suggesting that 12+ don't need parental consent is unacceptable. It also suggests that they are thinking of administering it through schools which would be grim.
