You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Are LFTs not carrying on? (missed that).

noblegiraffe · 25/08/2021 11:53

Don't forget PCRs for close contacts, that'll get some asymptomatic cases.

noblegiraffe · 25/08/2021 11:54

Not after the end of September, Herc (probably, that's when it's up for review).

What was the previous line on remote education that this is softer than?

motherrunner · 25/08/2021 11:54

@Hercisback

Are LFTs not carrying on? (missed that).
Noble mentioned it will be reviewed at end of Sept.
motherrunner · 25/08/2021 11:55

Some of the work I’ve set for cover when I’ve been ill has been really poor - how on Earth is that better than just keeping some measures to prevent staff becoming ill?

MrsHamlet · 25/08/2021 12:00

I hate setting cover.
If I'm on a course or whatever, I set work that they can do (with the answers). 8/10 times it's not done for some spurious reason.
If I've got my head down the loo, I can't set good cover. We have detailed schemes of work. Surely it should be enough to say to one of the 4 people with TLRs in the dept "we're up to here" and let them sort it?!

Hercisback · 25/08/2021 12:00

Wasn't it something about it having to be high quality and the same as what students in school were doing. Or does that line about "remote education direction" imply the same standards apply? I'm confusing myself now.

Hadn't registered that LFTs were until end of Sept for staff as well as kids. That's interesting. I may stash some.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4332208-To-think-unvaccinated-secondary-pupils-must-remain-masked-all-day

This person can’t be a teacher surely???

noblegiraffe · 25/08/2021 13:09

Probably the same poster as 'yours scenically'.

Lots of buttons pressed in that OP.

motherrunner · 25/08/2021 13:11

Thread’s been taken down as they’re a known troll.

noblegiraffe · 25/08/2021 13:14

Kids not being allowed in school or somehow segregated until they're vaccinated is an U4T hot topic. Remember Molly Kingsley's excruciatingly bad article about 'The Dirties' who were shunned by all the other kids and their teachers for being unjabbed?

motherrunner · 25/08/2021 13:15

They really do make up shit don’t they?

noblegiraffe · 25/08/2021 13:24

Shamelessly.

DanglingMod · 25/08/2021 13:28

@motherrunner

Now I keep reading about waning immunity after vaccines. I had my second vaccine in March (school staff were given the ‘spares’ in my LEA) but I won’t qualify for a booster. I worry about my immunity level come winter.
Similar position, motherrunner. Had my second by April add is CEV, but won't get a booster Sad
DanglingMod · 25/08/2021 13:29

As dh, not add

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/08/2021 13:40

@noblegiraffe

So not even setting cover?
We plan as a team, so planning would be done by someone else - it's already done for most of term 1 for example, on the system for us to tweak as we want. It would be more useful to work on some future planning - foundation subject stuff.

Today is planning day 1 of 3, I've had an eye test, been to the gym, eaten a nice breakfast.. yet to even locate work bag in amongst the building site that is my house.

borntobequiet · 25/08/2021 13:46

Person on radio just now being reassuring about waning immunity - vaccines should still protect well against serious illness, other than in the old and immune compromised.

borntobequiet · 25/08/2021 13:46

Also said we should vaccinate 12 years +.

JanglyBeads · 25/08/2021 13:48

Ravi Gupta on R4 just now saying he was worried (among other things) about the return to school.

But he clarified that the waning immunity is to catching COVID (and is only a fall of about 10% so far) NOT against developing serious illness, which you’ll still be well protected against. This needs shouting loudly because ppl will be, like you, worried by today’s headlines AND it’ll otherwise feed into the anti vax stuff.

JanglyBeads · 25/08/2021 13:49

Snap, born!

JanglyBeads · 25/08/2021 13:50

It’s pure logistics, not vaccine weariness, you utter, scheming twerps!!!!

motherrunner · 25/08/2021 13:52

That’s a relief!

JanglyBeads · 25/08/2021 13:54

Scottish dep first minister starting to sound like governments last autumn - the very last thing we want to do is close schools again.... retaining masks was a good idea (hear hear!).

noblegiraffe · 25/08/2021 13:54

The continuity direction for remote learning says “ The expectations on the quality of remote education expected of schools remain those set out in the guidance for full opening published in July 2020.”

So still high quality same as in school blah then.

JanglyBeads · 25/08/2021 14:19

HSHorror I think your point on the ‘Schools Predictions?’ thread is good/ not one I’d thought of:

^I predict
Running out of testing within 3w. Especially as you should get a pcr as a contact^
