You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Jan's article? I don't see any comments or orange trunks.

Piggywaspushed · 23/08/2021 12:32

Oh, at the bottom! You are very lucky , if not.

noblegiraffe · 23/08/2021 12:38

Still no trunks. :(

I'm a subscriber, I should get the extras.

Piggywaspushed · 23/08/2021 12:39

It's soem sort of Facebook plug in that I don't know why I have it...

Trust me, the orange trunk reveal more extras than you need...

TheHoneyBadger · 23/08/2021 12:49

www.tes.com/news/staggered-school-starts-inevitable-say-heads

Here they're going with 10% of the whole school who are likely to have mixed closely together rather than just 10%. So in our case a sleepover with more than 120 kids.

Saucery · 23/08/2021 13:15

Twinkl have sent me ‘Positive Vibes’, bless them.

JanglyBeads · 23/08/2021 15:56

Surely the 10% of students or staff example is irrelevant unless you’re in a tiny village school? You’re always going to reach the 5 threshold first! And there’s no way 5 can mix closely in a whole school without them being in a class /friendship group/team /office together.

And surely bus groups will have to count. The examples are just that?

PumpkinPie2016 · 23/08/2021 16:12

I think the problem is that the guidelines are still quite woolly in my opinion. Maybe it is hard to give anything more concrete due to the variety of settings Confused

I have still done absolutely no school work whatsoever Shock I have been having a lovely time with DH and DS but I really am going to have to do something this week Blush

noblegiraffe · 23/08/2021 16:44

Right, why are 63% of teacher tappers looking forward to going back to school?

I mean, I like teaching but I like the summer holidays better and hate going back in September which I thought was normal?!

Piggywaspushed · 23/08/2021 16:56

People even lie to anonymous online surveys.

MrsHamlet · 23/08/2021 16:57

You're normal. They're not.

I’ve spent the day trying to unclog a truly disgusting grease blocked drain. I think I’d rather be at school.

How is everyone? I’ve been avoiding mumsnet and just doing life stuff. What’s all this staggered start stuff?

ChloeDecker · 23/08/2021 17:46

@noblegiraffe

It's Piggy's ASBOteacher twitter link a few posts back.
Thank you!

Piggy - you are a legend for posting that. Best laugh I have had ages with a cuppa! Brew

Piggywaspushed · 23/08/2021 17:48

You're welcome!

PumpkinPie2016 · 23/08/2021 17:48

@noblegiraffe you're normal! I really like my job and school but always feel a bit sad when the summer holidays end Sad I have so much time with my son and husband in the hols and time to do house stuff and I do often dread going back to the madness of term time!

I am always totally fine once there, it's just the build up.

GuyFawkesDay · 23/08/2021 18:04

Agree. I am not looking forward to it. Never do. It's ok once I'm there but I'm very blah about it this year.

And I've done naff all round the house/garden cos of the puppy. Hey ho

Though I did buy some awesome giant post it notes from Sainsbury's today so I suppose I'm sort of thinking about school via my stationery buying issue 🤣

Hercisback · 23/08/2021 18:59

I clicked 'agree' because I do look forward to the routine and I wouldn't enjoy being at home all the time. However it's a look forward to seeing staff/pupils. Not looking forward to the crap we will deal with.

JanglyBeads · 23/08/2021 19:04

Laura mcInerney of teachertqpp was on PM. Saying agin what was in press yesterday, eg some heads are keeping staggered starts and bubbles.

How, when the guidance says not to?!

And why are people only now realising that students may miss a few days’ school because of the testing, it was announced mid July.

noblegiraffe · 23/08/2021 19:19

That's what people on Teacher Tapp are saying though.

People never pay attention to September in July. Remember when people were surprised last year that there was no social distancing?

noblegiraffe · 23/08/2021 19:28

I think I felt differently about the summer when I had young kids, Herc, it's a different type of hard work!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/08/2021 19:37

I had lunch out with work friends today. And we mused that in a fortnight we won't be allowed to sit within 2m of each other and wont be allowed to use our staffroom still.

Really? Wow! It’ll be back to cramming 6 of us in a ‘workroom’ which is actually an old stock cupboard so doesn’t have a window!
motherrunner · 23/08/2021 19:43

I wonder if I have to give back my laptop? We were loaned laptops from the bookable suite when we went into lockdown 1 to teach live. They didn’t ask for them back last Sept as we’re aware we could be isolating so would need them to teach live, plus the pupils weren’t allowed to use laptops as it was shared equipment.

I don’t want to give it back!

motherrunner · 23/08/2021 19:43

(Neither will DD as she won’t have anything to play Roblox on)
