You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

@MrsHerculePoirot

Friends if mine’s child has come back from holiday and since tested positive. They are both double vaxxed and test and trace confirmed they don’t need to isolate at all….. despite living in same household. Obvs they are keeping separate, not sharing bathroom etc… but even so …
That just sounds so bizarre. There's no way I would be confident going out and about as normal if either of my dds had covid
Hercisback · 22/08/2021 20:25

I can't fathom it either. It feels bizarre. It does fit with the "let covid rip through schools" policy so at least there's some government consistency.

noblegiraffe · 22/08/2021 20:40

There have been posts on the covid section where people have been uncomfortable with it too.

Shouted down by the 'it's fine, we're all double vaxxed' brigade.

Don't forget, no one should worry about catching covid anymore.

I'm shocked by the lack of masks. Despite it still being recommended and scientifically valid, less than 5% of the people in ASDA earlier today were wearing masks. Joe Bloggs just doesn't care anymore.

We'll definitely have parents sending kids in when they have covid and just not bothering to test them now because the diagnosis only negatively affects the family and changes nothing for anyone else in the class.

JanglyBeads · 22/08/2021 21:17

Sarah Vine cheerleading for the govt.

CarrieBlue · 22/08/2021 21:26

Sarah Vain didn’t really care if her son was left alone in a hotel room whilst she and Govey went off to party, even if he was able to wander out of the room so not surprised she doesn’t care about him contracting a serious disease.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 22/08/2021 21:27

We are actively encouraged to follow sodding pupil voice and modify our topic teaching so no expectation to teach the same as the parallel class.

JanglyBeads · 22/08/2021 21:30

“Sodding pupil voice”, 😂 drmaddie

This might be a stupid question, but does Sarah Vine's son mind if he gets covid?
DrMadelineMaxwell · 22/08/2021 22:27

I have told my boss if we take on the mantle of the expert model then i quit. It's a ridiculous amount of additional work.

Mistressiggi · 22/08/2021 22:31

I could never say what SV said - talk about tempting fate!

noblegiraffe · 22/08/2021 23:01

I just looked up the article, funnily enough, the headline was changed that morning so maybe she didn't want to tempt fate either.

Interestingly the article says that he is 16 and will be having his first jab before the festival, so clearly he's bothered about getting covid.

JanglyBeads · 22/08/2021 23:42

Somewhat misleading headline, but interesting to read their survey results re how any schools may be retaining mitigation measures:

noblegiraffe · 22/08/2021 23:58

"One in eight secondary schools will ask that masks be worn in class"

That seems like a lot. Maybe the areas that had to keep them last term due to delta? I can't imagine schools that didn't have them last term suddenly bringing them back.

JanglyBeads · 23/08/2021 00:02

No. Presumably those who responded to The Mirror’s questions are more likely to be in Labour areas - which have had more COVID?

noblegiraffe · 23/08/2021 00:28

Teacher Tapp had 1 in 10 suggesting masks in classrooms, but puts together 'teachers OR students' which is annoying.

3% teaching outdoors. What.

Mary Boustead claims that schools might bring back bubbles after two cases.... the DfE is not impressed:

Also, this, which is a long winded way of saying littlies won’t be told to get a PCR unless their household member is positive- Nursery/Reception, anyone???

The government website said: “Testing for close contacts under 18 will be split into two categories. All primary, secondary and college age children should take a single PCR test. Early Years children should only take a PCR test if a member of their household tests positive.”

noblegiraffe · 23/08/2021 00:44

This poll is a bit out of date, I suspect Raab may have fallen out of favour in recent days...but the bit near the bottom is quite funny.

You’d have to have a very low bar for satisfaction to give Liz Truss nearly 90%. It makes me fear for their sex lives.

This thread kept me amused and one for our NQTs (some of it, as ever, is rather sneering though : I like matching font to theme and putting in animations!)

Coronavirus: Young people warn of long Covid amid jab drive www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-58301011

Just started a thread about this.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid said: "Regardless of whether you're young, fit and healthy, these harrowing stories really show that Covid-19 can affect anyone.

But let's infect ALL the children ASAP......

Hercisback · 23/08/2021 07:41

That NQT thread is quite funny. "buy a load of verbal feedback stamps" is excellent. Grin
