You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

You can sit on chairs but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays. You do not have to wear mask - free choice

Hello all, I hope I'm allowed back. And you're all keeping well?

Just seen the above post and gosh, I'm so sorry MrsH, that's tough. Poor thing. I hope the holidays create some distance and healing.

Things got rough after Easter and I literally ran out if things to say about schools and the shit show. I don't know what to say now tbh! The first vax wiped me for about 5 weeks and then a different virus did for a few more.

All I can say, and I really need to say this LOUDLY is I've never seen so many cases in schools, among children. Yes it's higher (bonkers high) in the teens - 24s but never this much in the 5-9. Several local primary schools closed last week and my own has only had about half in at any one time. This area is one where delta kicked off. A number of double jabbed staff have caught it, not badly thankfully. Which I suppose is the point? (I don't know what to think any more.)

It's SO good schools are closing soon, honestly though, I know this area is not great for vax and others are better, and sept is 6 weeks away, but I can't help thinking it's going to be crazy.

Anyway, I've been living in the sea the last few weekends and aim to next week (my son is still in school though we've broken up, thanks LEAs 🙄) it's a marvellous distraction!

WineGinCake all.

Lovely to see you @warriorn!

Have you caught up and gathered we’re planning a possible real life meet up in late August - unless the world is on fire by then, as noble put it in beautifully Katniss-like terminology?

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/07/2021 21:13

Sorry to hear that @MrsHerculePoirot. How old is she?

WarriorN · 18/07/2021 21:19

Thanks jan, no, not an actual meet up?! I've seen the potential Skype posts here.

That's really lovely! I'm glad the republic has been such a force for good.

We are up t'coast in a cottage (as usual) in late august and if I'm honest I'm still yet to see some actual rl friends (including being crap on zoom) so should probably prioritise!

MrsHerculePoirot · 18/07/2021 21:19

Thanks - she’s 11. Feel like there’s only a week of school for her which is good and we’ve access support and are communicating - it was just a real shock and I have the guilt I didn’t realise sooner.

WarriorN · 18/07/2021 21:26

Most people round here are stumbling about (if not self isolating) with WTAF wrinkled into their foreheads about tomorrow. The world is already smouldering.

This is anecdotal but local Covid ward hcps are saying it's getting tricky, (survey of at least 4 school yard parents) annual leave has been cancelled again etc. but it's the north so that's ok...Hmm

Change subject/Trying to be positive: I've been paddle boarding 4 times in 2 weeks and not fallen in once #skillz

And I've been v assertive at work around a pile of curriculum bollocks shit and it's helped.

WarriorN · 18/07/2021 21:30

MrsH, you're on the ball now though and doing absolutely everything. Teens hide so much that it's likely you wouldn't have known under normal circs till you did either? Did the other parents know? And yes, new school beckoning, new start. TF ThanksWine

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/07/2021 21:37

MrsHP not MrsH )but we had that problem a week or so ago as well iirc!)

MrsHerculePoirot · 18/07/2021 21:38

One did and alerted me, others I don’t think so but the school spoke to them all now.

Impressed with your paddle boarding skillz.

Beachhuts90 · 18/07/2021 21:42

So sorry MrsH, you have done all the right things and that will be so positive for her.

Timeturnerplease · 18/07/2021 21:54

So the bubbles thing seems to still be an issue….received notification at around 5om tonight that four members of staff (two teachers, one TA and the SENCO) are now isolating due to positive cases in their household. Two of these are from husbands who went to Wembley last Sunday.

About an hour later received notification of a positive LF result, isolating a class plus another teacher and TA until PCR results received.

We are a small school. This is a lot of staff. No idea what we’ll do if more go down. Have started to make back up plans for house move on Saturday if my class bubble goes!

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/07/2021 22:02

Defo need a Time turner! Hope it works out.
Bubbles are literally a thing until midnight. It does sound like a lot are bursting today, all over.

HarrietDVane · 18/07/2021 22:05

So sorry MrsH, I hope things settle down for DD soon.

Welcome back Warrior! I'm so envious of your beach weekends. It's been so long since I saw the sea.

Three more days to go here. Just hoping to get through them without a positive in my class.

cantkeepawayforever · 18/07/2021 22:12

Right, no symptoms and a negative lft today - it's back to school for me tomorrow....

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 18/07/2021 22:18

Fingers crossed for all of you who have part of this week to go.

I’d just try and focus on the fact that you know now, MrsHP. And that you are communicating. I know this might not be reassuring now, but self-harm is a coping strategy. There are much better ones, and that’s definitely something the therapist can help her with but having an outlet is much better than not having one.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 18/07/2021 22:21

3 days.

1 normal
1 transition
1 leavers assembly and film watching

Can do this...

GuyFawkesDay · 18/07/2021 22:30

Crossing everything for no SI ping tomorrow for me for til Tuesday for DD.

Jeez I need my holiday next week (never has Cornwall seemed so appealing). I'm beyond shattered.

Boris’s latest lying message for the nation:

Includes the phrase “the precious firebreak of the school holidays”.

Right.

thecatfromjapan · 18/07/2021 22:44

Thank you for the thread.💐

Don't feel bad, MrsHP, you know and are supporting.

With things like this, it always makes you feel you found out 'late'. Always. But it's not true. It just feels that way.

DreamingofBrie · 19/07/2021 01:17

I agree with cat's comment, MrsHP. That you know now is enough, you can help dd get through it.

My dd and ds both had very tough Y7 years. We're out of the woods (🤞) with dd, but may still be bumpy with ds. His relief at not having school for the summer is obvious, he's like a different child.

Lots of talking time, even if she doesn't want to talk about what's bothering her, just mundane talk about how her day has been, does she want to arrange to see anyone etc. Hope she feels better soon 💐.

(I also wanted to add a Venn diagram that tickled me earlier this year).

MrsHamlet · 19/07/2021 06:54

Good luck to those of you in this week

twinkletoesimnot · 19/07/2021 07:01

3 more days for me, and my 3 dc. I have a feeling of doom!

At the same time have some lovely stuff planned for the next few days.

I've seriously had enough now - too many twats in the world.

BabyYoda9 · 19/07/2021 07:07

Good luck to those of you still in this week - hope you have plenty of frozen drinks to help you cope with the heat of the classroom!! I'm going in to box off some jobs while DS is in school. Can't wait til he's finished and then I can draw a line under this year.

motherrunner · 19/07/2021 07:26

Morning all. Been camping this weekend, well still am technically but about to start packing up.

Going to try and sort out the Skype thing now too.

noblegiraffe · 19/07/2021 07:27
