You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

You can sit on chairs but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays. You do not have to wear mask - free choice

All the MSM reporting that child long Covid is “rare” - deepti gurdasani has a thread explaining the many limitations of the study and the reporting of it.

Even I can see that 1 in 20 does not equal rare, and, if it is so rare, why have the govt set up a network of child long Covid clinics??

noblegiraffe · 04/08/2021 09:33

Tbf to Gav, they did publish a contingency plan for the event of local outbreaks in August 2020.

No one can remember because it was never used. I guess we never had any local outbreaks then.

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/08/2021 09:55

Yup, and Gav apparently was against 4-5 yo returning in June 2020, but got steamrollered/ ignored!

Also, this gives more detail about exams failures

16/17 years look due to be offered vaccines-that’s good news. Do we think it might pave the way for 12-16??

noblegiraffe · 04/08/2021 10:24

It's now 'safe' to vaccinate 16/17 year olds where it wasn't 'safe' before because we've got a delivery of Pfizer in September and they've done the maths on how many will be left over from the booster jab programme and there's enough for that age group.

Showing it was never a safety decision.

All about supply then?

Why are our government all such dicks??!

noblegiraffe · 04/08/2021 10:39

I've seen a couple of times on Twitter that Dingwall has left the JCVI too, although don't know where to look to see if this is true.

plus girls absolutely not allowed to wear trousers anyway (would need special appeal to the Governing Body, which no parent has ever pursued).

Gosh, is this still a thing? My stick-in-the mud school allowed trousers for girls in the late 1990s after a campaign led by a very respected and stunningly stylish older Maths teacher and an equally respected and stylish younger Textiles teacher, ably supported by various Head Girls over a number of years.

borntobequiet · 04/08/2021 10:51

Why are our government all such dicks??!

A profound question to which the answer IMO is that our electoral system is pretty much designed so that few sensible or decent people can get elected as MPs, let alone climb the greasy Ministerial pole with any success.

Mistressiggi · 04/08/2021 10:52

If 16/17 year olds become eligible, what would their timeframe be? Say V1 at start of September, V2 9 weeks later? Full protection a couple of weeks after that. That takes it to the end Nov when the senior students in front of you would have the same protection as a vaccinated adult. That's a lot of time available for transmission! Hopefully the type they use will have decent protection after the first dose.
If it moves down to younger ones I think it's January before they'd all be done.
I hope it happens, it just isn't an immediate result (unless it happens really, really soon!)

Mistressiggi · 04/08/2021 10:53

I knew of schools with Heads who didn't let the female staff wear trousers, though thankfully that was well on the way out even by the 90's.

This. Or uptake in the current age groups has slowed down so much that they have some left.

Tbh once the EU countries start vaccinating teens and adding them to covid passports/pass sanitaires it’s going to be difficult for us not to follow. I don’t think being able to go on holiday but not take your kids with you was exactly what people had in mind.

That’s very interesting! Left of his own accord, or ousted, I wonder?!

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay,

maybe being able to go on holiday but not take your kids with you was exactly what U4T had in mind??? Grin

Piggywaspushed · 04/08/2021 11:38

As I said on the data thread we have several students who have not returned to full health . It's difficult to judge how much of this is anxiety/pre existing issues with health anxiety etc since at least one had prior poor health/attendance and that's why people will continue to minimise and view sufferers as malingerers. Just like with ME.

Ah, bugger @Piggywaspushed hope he is ok?

CallmeHendricks · 04/08/2021 13:56

Nooooo!

Piggywaspushed · 04/08/2021 14:06

He's a bit fluey I suppose. Sniff was first, then tiredness and headache, then slight cough and temperature. Just like he was in September when testing was practically outlawed!

Appuskidu · 04/08/2021 14:23

Oh no-I hope he’s ok.

MsAwesomeDragon · 04/08/2021 14:24

Bugger, piggy.

noblegiraffe · 04/08/2021 14:39

That sucks, piggy. Hope it doesn’t mess up too many holiday plans.
