You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

You can sit on chairs but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays. You do not have to wear mask - free choice

Thought you were talking about the primary you currently work in beach, and I was all Shock

noblegiraffe · 01/08/2021 18:50

Appu it's that discredited daily LFT trial.

How about this for a snapshot of the article that will make you glad you haven't read the whole thing?

"Oxford said schools taking part in the testing arm of the study felt "bereft" when forced to revert to the old system at the end of the trial, with pupils in tears as they were handed isolation notices at the school gates."

Monkeytennis97 · 01/08/2021 20:35

Re 7/8 or 7/4 heavy metal songs- Bits of Master of Puppets by Metallica and one of the Soundgarden songs on the album Super Unknown also not to be forgotten, Pink Floyd's Money.

Monkeytennis97 · 01/08/2021 20:37

Also Metallica's Justice for All has bits in it that are 11/4.

Monkeytennis97 · 01/08/2021 20:39

Soundgarden 'The Day I Nearly Died' 7/4 all the way through.

TheHoneyBadger · 01/08/2021 21:06

Wtf is an 'isolation notice'???? Sounds dramatic and appeals to their desired connotations of the soviet state or communist China - they don't exist though or certainly we never had them at our school

JanFebAnyMonth · 01/08/2021 21:39

Yeah I noticed that bit too noble

noblegiraffe · 02/08/2021 09:21

It's just obviously made-up bollocks, and as it is attributed to the people running the trial, renders the whole thing suspect.

Hmm FFS.

I wondered what it was-still, as we thought, no matter what the findings were, the government/papers would have said it was all brilliant.

I’m trying to pretend I’m just not going back to work in September at the moment, I think!

HarrietDVane · 02/08/2021 09:32

Just dipping in to say hello - I have been reading but not posting! Hope you're all ok and enjoying the break. I'm trying to blot out September.

Mistressiggi · 02/08/2021 10:03

Hello all. Two weeks of holiday left here and I'm trying hard not to think of anything beyond that..

KatherineOfGaunt · 02/08/2021 10:22

Hi everyone, hope you're enjoying the hols! I've been reading but just not posting much. Too much going on.

I'm enjoying seeing all the different time signature songs you're posting!

Ignoring September too. I'm not happy about where I've been put for next year but cannot leave (would have to pay back some training fees and I can't afford that). Planning on doing the bare minimum this year and reassessing next April/May.

BTW, I tried to wander over to TES (hasn't been there in ages) and was surprised it's gone!

JanFebAnyMonth · 02/08/2021 11:59

monkey, I’ve PM’d you.

The positivity (excuse the terminology!) on my “New LFTs” thread on CV board shows
• I must be more popular than noble

• how important it is to get the health messaging right - y’know, basic things, like tell people there’s a less distressing test now freely available....

Piggywaspushed · 02/08/2021 12:05

Tom Rogers has just pissed me off on Twitter talking about deprivation and what kids have these days. WTF is an 'edu-opportunity'??

noblegiraffe · 02/08/2021 12:19

Your thread about LFTs has got more posts than my thread about Gav scrapping BTECs, Jan. This is outrageous. Angry

Piggywaspushed · 02/08/2021 12:20

Not surprising though... BTecs are anathema to most of MN.

noblegiraffe · 02/08/2021 12:26

Yes, MN doesn’t generally give a toss about vocational education unless it’s a way to get ‘less academically inclined’ DC out of their child’s Latin class.

JanFebAnyMonth · 02/08/2021 12:49

Ah - just realised I left the 97 off your address, that might explain it 🤦🏻‍♀️
Will resend!

I had a nerdy conversation with myself in the car this morning about your BTEC thread this morning, Noble. Thinking I would type....

"On one hand I get so angry at the cowardice of Gav, who has been hiding for most of the pandemic, but then I find myself in paroxysms of rage whenever he appears and opens his mouth, so I don't know which is better, tbh."

... then I had a little moment of being proud of myself for the word "paroxysms" and wondering where I'd picked it up from, then I realised I wasn't sure at all whether I was using it correctly 😅.

My mum was a primary school teacher for 4 years when she was young and always said to us how important it was to get your children loving reading, because they would then always be able to entertain themselves. She's so right.

JanFebAnyMonth · 02/08/2021 18:08

Noble did you ask for yr thread to be moved or start a new one? In Secondary Education you now have lots of fans, phew!

I know nearly nothing about this but from reading the posts, it sounds appalling.

Can I just mention that in the early 90s, when the Tories were wanting to fiddle with tertiary quals - iirc in a similar vein - yours truly asked a question about it on R4’s Any Questions that week? The Panel included David Two Brains (can’t remember his real name, that was his nickname though!)

noblegiraffe · 02/08/2021 21:05

Ah no it was started in secondary education, Jan, thats where I usually started my threads in the BeforeTime.

Because you lot all name change (except Piggy) I've no idea whether I've ever interacted with any of you before over the years before I became Most Hated Teacher.
