You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

Claudius Thegod?

Gosh I hope I’m not right.

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/07/2021 21:00

We should also bear in mind that the T&T staff are probably reading their equivalent “guidance” this evening and thinking ... well, words that I’m not going to type....

Especially those who are parents.

Hercisback · 15/07/2021 21:04

We've had a Storm, who went on to have a child with a weather themed name.

We have a lot of Mohammeds that are known as other names. But our previous SIMS guy didn't sort out the "known as" option so I have to try and remember the boys "real" names using surnames only. They go next year, final legacy from old SIMS guy will go too.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/07/2021 21:05

I’d imagine that PHE and local public health officials have had a few choice words to say.

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/07/2021 21:05

Yes I hate Mia / Mya confusion and death stares.

I was at university with a Caractacus (Crac for short); his sister was apparently Boadicea. Dad’s job? Professor of Anglo Saxon or somesuch.

NEU are looking for Gav too

Just been reading about positivity rates. ☹️

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/07/2021 21:30

I was in a class with 5 Joannes, 3 Joannas and a Joelle when I was at secondary school. No other Jo names in the rest of the year, but they plonked them all in the same form.

FlagsFiend · 15/07/2021 21:36

The new test and trace 'plan' for school just feels like this whole last year was a waste of time. Why did we bother with bubbles etc if come September we are just going to get them all to catch it in the space of a few weeks? I'd say average recovery time for a teenager to be back at school seems to be about 3 weeks, so I expect the first half term to be horribly disrupted as large numbers of children are off ill.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/07/2021 21:38

Had a year 1 class with:
Koa
Kai
Kayden
Keenan
Keagan
Kyan

Hmm... and one other I can't recall. All awful.

Jayden, Jenson, Jackson. Also always awful.

Two Alfies currently, both lazy. Never had an easy Elijah either.

Yes, that.
Piggywaspushed · 15/07/2021 22:03

Our Storm was a boy.

It's not Claudius Thegod.

First name with a T like the big ship but ending us instead of anic

Second name like Russell Crowe.

Next year we are having a Godisgood, sibling of Victorious.

DH teaches a Miracle.

Ooh forgot to mention spoke to a CEV colleague who said that she had done an antibody test and that despite having both vaccines had no antibodies in her blood for covid.... slightly concerning (unless I'm misunderstanding how vaccines are meant to work)

Beachhuts90 · 15/07/2021 22:12

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay

I have the same problem with Aimee. Although I think I’m moving towards ‘if you see it in the U.K. it’s almost always the same as Amy.’
How would you pronounce it other than like Amy?
noblegiraffe · 15/07/2021 22:20

Bit uncomfortable with naming kids.

eitak the vaccine doesn’t work at all on some people and is far less effective on others. It’s why many CEV people are very concerned about freedom day despite the vaccines.

WhenSheWasBad · 15/07/2021 22:20

Definitely agree with K names.

Although Caitlin, Courtney and Channel are my big hitters.

Staffholidayclubrep · 15/07/2021 22:24

I had two Alfies this year in Year 13. They are both blessed in that they did not have to take the real exams!

Nice guys socially but it was always 'do I have to write all this?' 'don't have a pen' and my all-time favourite saying was 'I'm not going to lie I haven't done the home because ......

I have never had a 'clever' Alfie at GCSE or A Level

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/07/2021 22:25

I don't have any girl ones that stand out.

We've had a few made up names.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/07/2021 22:26

Both mine are clever and kind, just CBA.

Had she definitely done the test checking for vaccine antibodies? The one I was offered through the ZOE app only tests for antibodies from infection.

There are two types of test, one is to do with the spike protein antibodies which is how the vaccine works. The other (the one I did) is check for antibodies that act against the part of the virus that encloses its genetic material and you don't get these antibodies from the vaccine due to their design.

Staffholidayclubrep · 15/07/2021 22:30

And Archie's tend to be 'too cool for skool' and great at sport so they often miss a lesson because of football/rugby/cricket either school stuff or county stuff.

borntobequiet · 15/07/2021 22:35

Children’s names reflect the zeitgeist, don’t they? (Though I never thought I’d find myself typing such a Pseuds’ Corner sentence.). The Alfies and Archies are sort of anime boys, cute and cuddly. They will be spoiled rotten as little kids and find it hard to adjust to growing up. The hyphenated girls are destined to be little drama queens in sequinned tops cultivating a pout and manipulating all around them.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/07/2021 22:41

Emay, with a short ‘e’ at the start like in Emily. Aimee is the French spelling and that is the French pronunciation. Here I think it used as an alternative spelling for Amy. At home the French pronunciation tends to go with the French spelling, English pronunciation with the English IME. I suspect that might be changing though.

I’ve certainly got it wrong here enough times that I ask first. Mostly I just look like an idiot that doesn’t know how to pronounce Amy Grin

DanglingMod · 15/07/2021 22:50

@TheHoneyBadger

You're missing that this is deliberate - they don't want to know the contacts or contact them.
Clearly deliberately.

Secondary school pupils don't have contact details of their non-friends, either. And we tend to have seating plans where they're deliberately not next to friends...

HSHorror · 15/07/2021 23:13

What did tes say i couldnt read?

Tbh it's going to be ridiculous in that we miss holiday but down there are people who are within say 0 days of contact with a positive. Plus kids exempt a few weeks later and of course --- pubs and football. Everyone will ignore it

DreamingofBrie · 15/07/2021 23:23

Titus Maximus?

Hours lost to Chuckie Egg.

I think Chuckie Egg was our first game on the BBC Micro, along with Repton, Noble. Happy memories, when we could get it to load!

I can't play all these 3D graphics, they make me feel queasy. Give me Super Mario 2 and original Tetris and I'll be happy.
