You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

That's really difficult honey. Have you spoken spoken your union? It's not an area I'm familiar with, but if I remember correctly one of my former colleagues said there were rules about trapped time.

MrsHamlet · 04/07/2021 20:51

Over time it sends the message that if you're entitled/complain about reasonable tasks/don't follow behaviour policies then you get more time off and those who are working hard feel undervalued.
Every bloody time!

TheHoneyBadger · 04/07/2021 20:52

No don't worry - I didn't take it as a dig Chloe I just always feel the need to justify myself. Spreading my hours over 3 days actually means I have a lot more time where I have to be in school but I feel like people think I just swan in and out. As soon as my stomach is reliably better I'm going to switch back to two full days because even if I get given a share of a form group I will have a lot more 'not at school' time and a lot less opportunity for trapped time and the timetable/duties man will have less excuse to overload me.

TheHoneyBadger · 04/07/2021 20:54

There are rules Lola but from what I've seen everyone pretends they don't exist anymore so you'd have to be seen as really obnoxious and awful to point them out.

Nobody seems to realise for example that it's still obligatory to allocate time as well as money to tlr roles. That's just quietly gone out the window despite the burgundy book and what unions say. Hence promoting PE teachers.

Popping in to say hi, have read very little of the thread so far and despair of catching up! School now know I'm pregnant - 5 days of with morning sickness is hard to hide! Another day off tomorrow as I've kept nothing at all down today.

TheHoneyBadger · 04/07/2021 20:55

Poor you Hobnob - hope it eases up soon.

ChloeDecker · 04/07/2021 20:58

Add to that that all of the bits that used to actually lift spirits and create a sense of comradery like Friday night department trips to the pub etc are gone and it just does all get a bit joyless.

I genuinely don’t know how much longer I can go on without this particular joy in my life. The comraderie is slowly being eroded with us all being so separated at school at the moment.

We need to hear from each other that we are all experiencing the same thing, so we can keep going. But at the moment, we’re not having this social interaction and it’s soul destroying

MrsHamlet · 04/07/2021 21:00

I despise most of my dept so I don't miss this at all 🤣

That sounds exhausting, you poor thing.

It’s the people outside my dept that I miss so much GrinGrin

Ooh, you poor thing. Teaching and morning sickness is utterly grim-I remember it well. Try to rest up.
noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 21:07

We have some camaraderie in here at least. I’m Maths so we don’t go out for socials anyway.

Sorry about the morning sickness Hobbers, that sounds grim.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 21:08

Have any of you English teachers been dancing to Kate Bush in your garden? 👀

MrsHamlet · 04/07/2021 21:08

Let me in at your window, oh

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/07/2021 21:10

I saw the second Fantastic Beasts film with our Maths Dept, all potterheads!

Poor hob.

Someone mentioned cheese, grapes and port? Yum!!

LolaSmiles · 04/07/2021 21:12

I'm missing the camaraderie with selected individuals. It seems inevitable that big departments end up forming small pockets of like-minded people.

At least it's not long until summer hobnob. Morning sickness at school is grim.

We have done a couple of socials. Now we invite other departments.

hob Hope the sickness passes soon.

MrsHamlet · 04/07/2021 21:15

I went out with our maths dept once. They were not expecting to play "snog marry shag"

😂😂 Who'd be a teacher eh?!

Crazy.

(However I've been known to have a crafty cig and dance around to cheesy hit 'This Is It' by Dannii Minogue in my garden).

I must be the only maths teacher who likes this game.

What, do you mean they weren’t expecting to, but they did? Was this linked to your presence, MrsH???
noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 21:19

Thread on AIBU Jan

Apparently there’s a petition up to stop her doing it. Which is fair enough because Kate Bush on repeat would be a bit unneighbourly.

MrsHamlet · 04/07/2021 21:20

I think they'd planned to talk about surds or something. I don't know what they are so I may have started the voting for best staff arse.
