You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

On a musical note, I’ve been doing Chris Moyles maths starters with mine recently, where the likes of One Direction and Lethal Bizzle (?!) sing a series of calculations.

MrsHamlet · 04/07/2021 18:23

I picked my first strawberries and raspberries of the year from the garden yesterday. 2 of each.
The rhubarb is growing like a weed though...

WhenSheWasBad · 04/07/2021 18:24

Ooh the jam making sounds good.

There’s a mad rumour I might find out my timetable for my new school on Friday. Very exciting times.

In other news shit loads of year 7s out isolating.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 18:33

I don’t like jam.

DreamingofBrie · 04/07/2021 18:36

@noblegiraffe

I don’t like jam.
Jam, gin, gherkins... I'm not sure we can be friends.
Iamnotthe1 · 04/07/2021 18:39

Jam Envy (not envy).

My class are obsessed. Any opportunity to have some and it's consumed like it's something they've been denied their whole lives. We went through so much during SATs breakfast club. Yuck.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/07/2021 18:41

Can someone confirm I’m not losing the plot here? (Well I might be but that’s besides the point)

If covid is going to look just like a normal flu season in terms of hospital admissions, then your new normal is about twice the number of admissions you’d normally expect isn’t it? Obviously there might be a bit of overlap but they don’t really cancel each other out do they?

Piggywaspushed · 04/07/2021 18:45

Yes, this is what I don't get either!

Iamnotthe1 · 04/07/2021 18:46

You're not losing it Rafal

Admissions would be higher annually and this will be particularly true for those unfortunate people who get both the flu and coronavirus given how the first would make them more vulnerable to the second.

What he is saying is also ignoring the fact that the vaccinations are less effective in those who were already vulnerable which, again, will play havoc with admissions during winter.

It's also ignoring the fact that those who end up with long Covid may well find themselves CV or CEV once their 'natural immunity' wears off. Each year, we'd have a growing number of CV and CEV people, including children.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 18:47

Brie hate to break it to you, but I don’t like Brie either!

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 18:48

Maybe they’re hoping for a bumper flu vaccination take-up.

GuyFawkesDay · 04/07/2021 18:53

Don't like brie?!! Flippin' heck!!
Send all the jam, gin and brie to me i'm a human dustbin and this is why I'm fat

Hercisback · 04/07/2021 18:56

You don't like Brie Shock

Good job you like maths otherwise we would not be friends.

I also don't understand the winter thing. Perhaps the hope is people vulnerable to flu will also be covid vulnerable and somehow the same number of people who get flu now will be half flu half covid. Logically that doesn't really seem to make sense.

MrsHamlet · 04/07/2021 18:57

Mmmmmm..... cheese.

Piggywaspushed · 04/07/2021 18:58

I don't like Brie unless it's hard and fridge cold, which makes me very common.

Jam , meh. On a scone.

Gin, at Christmas.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/07/2021 18:58

Good job you like maths otherwise we would not be friends.

Secret English teacher though.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 19:01

I once picked up what I thought was a ham and cheese toastie in Costa and actually it was brie and cranberry and that was the worst thing that has ever happened to me.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 19:03

Looks like my invite to the Enemies of Education meet-up has just been rescinded :(

MrsHamlet · 04/07/2021 19:03

Cheese does not go with fruit. No no no.

Mistressiggi · 04/07/2021 19:12

I dipped some apple slices in Philadelphia today and it was a revelation Grin

Piggywaspushed · 04/07/2021 19:12

Oooh, scientist on BBC just said schools breaking up is good news because 'that's where the majority of transmission is occurring' and transmission amongst children 'goes flat' when they aren't in school because they aren't mixing as much.

He went on to say we could 'get into semantics about whether they bring it in from the community or take it back. To be honest, it is probably a mixture of both.' At last!

It’s like we are finally being heard/acknowledged. I just wish these people would shout louder for us and our children.

Cheese and grapes (with a glass of Port)

Bliss. Grin

Checking back in after a weekend of drinking way too much wine and eating way too much. Have my first twilight as an ECT tomorrow Smile if i can fit through the door

The talk of jam just reminded me I have scones to use and some raspberry gin jam in the fridge.

Around here we seem to have children self isolating all over the place. Praying that we get to the end of term without my children's bubbles going.
