You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Absolutely.

And people, inc the media, largely ignoring the fact that the isolation policy is there FOR A REASON.

JanFebAnyMonth · 29/06/2021 17:37

We’ve had two bubbles partially burst today, first cases in school since Easter iirc.

DanglingMod · 29/06/2021 17:49

Yeah, it is hilarious, isn't it?

No social distancing, no masks, little ventilation and now no isolating of close contacts.

A child can sit at the same table as a positive class mate for 6 hours a day and still come in to school. An adult can be in a cafe or supermarket (wearing a mask) for 15 minutes near a positive case and has to isolate for ten days. How does that make ANY sense?

JanFebAnyMonth · 29/06/2021 17:56

Over 1 in 20 pupils are isolating:

Even Geoff Barton’s saying a new system is needed!

DanglingMod · 29/06/2021 17:59

Yes to the "loads of illness" things.

Most classes have 2-4 children off at mo with something, mostly "stomach ache," "sick in the night" etc. Some, I'm sure, are undiagnosed Covid once again and some are basically skiving. But I've never known this much absence. In June.

Piggywaspushed · 29/06/2021 18:12

What's happened with the app? Never mentioned any more. What happens if a year 12 or a staff member is pinged by the app??

BigBobBoots · 29/06/2021 18:16

We have 3 pupils in our class waiting for test results at the moment. Am keeping my fingers crossed for negatives - I have exciting weekend plans that I'd be gutted to cancel. Absence has been remarkably high for 2 weeks now (KS2)

DanglingMod · 29/06/2021 18:18

Loads of staff off at mo at our place pinged by the app.

That's what's so ridiculous. It could literally be passing or mask protected contact. But if a class bubble pops, eve if positive kid is front row, we don't go home Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 29/06/2021 18:22

This is at least a balanced article , looking at the issues from all sides

What do other countries do? who all don't have as many cases as we do

the BBC shoutout for parents frustrated by isolation from school on their Facebook Health and Lifestyle page didn't quite go to plan...

noblegiraffe · 29/06/2021 18:34

Did you see the BBC put a link to Us4Them on their article about isolations, next to a link to DfE absence data in their ‘related links’ section?

It’s been taken down now, guess anti lockdown campaign groups don’t fit the BBC impartiality brief.

Appuskidu · 29/06/2021 18:35

So, we are presuming that the results from the lateral flow school trials will appear in the press ASAP as having been a fantastic success….

noblegiraffe · 29/06/2021 18:37

They haven’t been leaked, which is a surprise if it’s good news.

Piggywaspushed · 29/06/2021 18:37

Wow, did they? That's very revealing.

noblegiraffe · 29/06/2021 18:42

Yeah, see here, piggy
twitter.com/parents_utd/status/1409888720908587019?s=21

Certainly explains why the BBC have suddenly found the attendance stats newsworthy.

JanFebAnyMonth · 29/06/2021 18:46

Yes Parents United complained about that link. I’ve just posted a DT article on Data about how the current high case rates don’t matter because we’re testing far more than in December. Carl Heneghan. Am hoping someone on there will find holes in his arguments.

JanFebAnyMonth · 29/06/2021 18:48

Was thinking if the results are only sent to the Minister today they wouldn’t be “leaked” til at least this evening?

There’s a lot of people calling for schools isolations to end NOW.....

CallmeHendricks · 29/06/2021 18:50

So, end school isolations because we're fed up with them?
What about isolations for the general public? Are they going to continue?

noblegiraffe · 29/06/2021 18:52

It depends on if you’re worried about infection rates going up or not, Jan. We’ve been testing more for ages and case rates are shooting up disproportionately to testing rates, showing infection rates are increasing (backed up by ONS figures).

noblegiraffe · 29/06/2021 18:53

Call you’ve spotted it. Argue to end isolations in kids (terribly disruptive to their education) and then you can argue to end isolations in adults (we don’t have it in schools etc etc)

noblegiraffe · 29/06/2021 19:04

Teacher tapp asking today about who has to isolate if there’s a case in your class so make sure you vote.

My answer: as few kids as possible and definitely not me.

Appuskidu · 29/06/2021 19:05

So, end school isolations because we're fed up with them?

Yep, I think that’s Gav’s new policy.

Piggywaspushed · 29/06/2021 19:14

So, end school isolations because we're fed up with them? Well, it's basically what my school SLT does with every single rule or measure it implements.

Piggywaspushed · 29/06/2021 19:53

Quite a good, grumpy , outspoken head on Sky News. the man is frustrated and making it v clear.
