You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Gove-id

Iamnotthe1 · 15/06/2021 13:16

Sorry, I don't know specifically where they have drawn from. The email from the secondary head said guidance and then that quoted bit. I'll see if I can find where it's from.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/06/2021 13:47

Yes co like the co in co-dependent here too as opposed to co as in cop. Did Gove do the former or the latter?

Appuskidu · 15/06/2021 13:58

Co as in Sebastian Coe?!

LolaSmiles · 15/06/2021 14:08

Co-vid as in co-dependent here

noblegiraffe · 15/06/2021 14:23

He said coh as in copy. Or like cough.

Coh-vid.

Sounds like you say it the non-Gove normal way then, Honey

TheHoneyBadger · 15/06/2021 15:02

Phew 😥 Don’t want to be associated with the demon headmaster lookalike

DreamingofBrie · 15/06/2021 15:36

Checking in belatedly, thank you Staff! Hope everyone is ok. I didn't listen to the briefing last night, but assuming our flight to Greece (from Manchester) might be cancelled now anyway, as it's before July 19th.

Co-vid like co-dependent here too.

I've reformatted a few A2 chapter booklets for teaching next week, and written 5 out of 49 reports. Now I just want a snooze.

DreamingofBrie · 15/06/2021 15:38

Oh, forgot to mention, dh and I went to see Michael Spicer last month - I'd never heard of him but it was a very fun night out. I sent a link to dd and she's now watched every clip on YouTube. Here he is with Gav Grin.

Beachhuts90 · 15/06/2021 15:40

Random question. Would you join a union before starting a salaried school direct course?

Appuskidu · 15/06/2021 15:47

I’d have said coh rhymed with dough Grin.

Still v pleased sports day has been cancelled here. Goodness knows what September will look like though-are your schools planning for back to normal or still bubbles/zones?!

Yes!
Piggywaspushed · 15/06/2021 16:18

Had to stop on way home because girl knocked down by car. Poor thing.

Piggywaspushed · 15/06/2021 16:19

Just realised I should have said she is OK

“Dragging kids out of class”. Love it!

CarrieBlue · 15/06/2021 16:34

I’ve got an interview. Sad really think I should be at least a little excited but if even the perfect job (on paper) makes me feel sick them I don’t think it’s for me Confused

GuyFawkesDay · 15/06/2021 16:41

What do you do when you can see another member of your department being given responsibilities ready for HoD role coming up?

I want to go for it but said person is being given budget, data, having meeting with senior leaders like a proxy HoD.

I think I'm a bit peeved.

MrsHamlet · 15/06/2021 16:57

Whoop Carrie
guy I would be asking for the same opportunities.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 15/06/2021 17:08

Guy Apply and show your interest. Even if it seems a done deal, no harm in them knowing you're interested and there may be an alternative role available.

Beachhuts90 · 15/06/2021 17:19

Thanks @mrshamlet , does anyone have any recommendations for which union? I will do my own research but it's nice to hear from people.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/06/2021 17:25

Speak to a member of slt saying you are interested in the role and could you please be given the same opportunities so that it is a fair process. It won't change their decision if they've already made their minds up but reminds them they are meant to be bloody fair! It's really inappropriate to be grooming someone without advertising yet.

MrsHamlet · 15/06/2021 17:30

@Beachhuts90 I'm a rep for the NASUWT so I'd say them!!!

GuyFawkesDay · 15/06/2021 17:35

There's no role as yet. HoD is off sick and it looks likely to be long term now. There will be a potential opportunity in September (?) for the role temporarily or maybe permanently.

I think I want reassurances the decision has not been made already and that a fair process will be in place.

Its really galling tbh. Guess who has been the person driving change and getting stick for it in the department since their arrival?!!

Frlrlrubert · 15/06/2021 17:50

I'm still in both (really need to cancel one!) you can join both as a student for free usually.

In my experience NUT are more likely to annoy the media, NASUWT can be a bit wet for my liking.
