You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Remember my bonkers HT who insisted on a Christmas Fair just as the second wave was gathering strength? Well, tonight we have a summer concert Shock. With singing and everything. Apparently it's OK because the audience will be wearing masks, socially distanced etc and will be below 50% of the hall's capacity. Staff are staying well clear, refusing to film it etc.

I requested sight of the Y7 transition day risk assessment and have been blanked. She's determined to have an outdoor Speech Day Angry. If I have to ring the authorities anonymously to stop her, I will.

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/06/2021 18:37

Crikey @StationView!

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 17/06/2021 18:48

@Piggywaspushed and @stationview bloody hell that sounds stressful. Some of these heads really don't get it at all. Scary!

ChloeDecker · 17/06/2021 18:58

Wow StationView! I think I could guess which Mumsnetter(s) your Head is Grin

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/06/2021 19:01

We've now got 5 positives in school, so loads of year 9s, and a dozen year 8s are now isolating. And we're back in masks from Monday. Our head is trying very hard to play it safe.

HarrietDVane · 17/06/2021 19:06

Gin for you Piggy and Stationview - it all sounds awful!

I have finally found out where I am next year and which class I'm getting. I'm staying put but (surprise, surprise) getting the 'difficult' class. Speaking to the current teacher, it seems some of the parents are just as hard to handle as the children and in some cases worse. Looks like I'm in for a fun, Bob-filled year. Hmm

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 17/06/2021 19:06

Whereas my head has just said she thinks she over-egged it saying we could use gymnastic mats and just clean them. Thinks we should avoid them completely.

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/06/2021 19:17

I think kids are my school just don’t test… not that we don’t have cases… who knows though 🤷‍♀️

No! Got my timetable too today. The Year 7 form I am really struggling with behaviour -wise…. Have them again next year! Oh goody. On the plus side, we have the best numbers we have ever had for girls picking A Level Computer Science (and this is only internal students, don’t know externals yet) out of 39 picking it, 16 are girls!!!!!!!! Get in! Grin
Medra · 17/06/2021 19:23

@MrsHerculePoirot Same at ours. I know barely any test because in a form group of 27 I give LFT kits to one child.

I was informed that I need a break after this year, so have only got the third worst class! I'm moving a couple of Bobs along, even though I could have them again - and had planned to have them again. I also get a full time LSA, for the first time since I've been at the school. A strong one who wants to be a teacher too, presumably so I can be in and out dealing with Bobs from other classes!

Piggywaspushed · 17/06/2021 19:26

station : solidarity comrade!

squashed hope test comes back negative.

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/06/2021 19:28

@ChloeDecker great work on the girls numbers!

I’m jealous of those of you know timetables and classes - we usually find out just before we break up….

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/06/2021 19:32

We got our timetables for next year this week. I've got Friday p5 as PPA, I will waste that completely, every week. I know I will. I've got 2 lessons of year 7 computing as well, which I'm looking forward to, having not done any computing for about 5 years now. My whack a mole class will have 3 afternoon lessons and only 1 morning lesson, which will be an absolute nightmare!!!! And that same class will have more kids in it due to necessary set changes. Not looking forward to that at all!!!!

MrsHamlet · 17/06/2021 19:36

Nowhere close to a timetable. The calendar isn't ready. It's chaos.

GuyFawkesDay · 17/06/2021 19:37

I got my timetable last year the day we finished for summer. And I got thoroughly done over.

I expect no better this year.

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/06/2021 19:42

Ours is late this year. We normally get it on the first day back after May half term. The timetabling team apologised that covid had held them up. They really want it done early so people can do their complaining before the summer.

motherrunner · 17/06/2021 19:43

Same here @MrsHerculePoirot. We get ours the last week of term too.

MrsHamlet · 17/06/2021 19:44

I got told the other week that I'm "not needed" for gcse and a level now because the new appointment is outstanding. Charming.

WhenSheWasBad · 17/06/2021 19:54

You do need a break after your class this year rule not sure third worse is what you need. Is that 3rd worse in the whole school?

So impressed so many of you have your timetables. Not expecting mine until summer (or possibly autumn).

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/06/2021 19:54

Nothing like making your staff feel valued, MrsH!

If the new appointment is so outstanding there must be loads of stuff you’re doing that he can take on.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 17/06/2021 19:54

Oh no! Positives - next year will be fucked up by covid again, exams will be fucked up again, you won't be up to your neck in it.
MrsHerculePoirot · 17/06/2021 19:56

@MrsHamlet whoever said that is a knobhead of the highest order….

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 17/06/2021 19:56

Is that 3rd worse in the whole school?

No, in the cohort. Which is probably in the school though too. I've got some lovely ones in there too, who I'm looking forward to having. No kids I've taught before - a treat! Someone else has been shafted a bit, but because I've got strong TA support, I can be her change of face when behaviour goes wrong.

A lot of my real issues have moved out of my phase. Those class lists look like a bomb site.
