You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Put it on the thread, piggy!

Dd2 is year 6 and is absolutely delighted that they aren't doing a show, or a residential, or a leavers disco, or having parents watching sports day. I don't expect all the kids to be delighted, I also don't like blanket statements from certain quarters that all the kids are upset about missing these things. It is crap for some, maybe even a lot of them, but it's a relief for a few as well.

We've cancelled our transition days now, I'm glad I hadn't started writing seating plans or planning activities to do with my group. I think we're moving it online, so those of us who are year 7 form tutors will still get to see the year 6s, just through a screen rather than in person. There's a virtual tour as well, so it should be ok for them. Dd2 is having a virtual visit to her new school as well, but she's relatively familiar with the school from when dd1 was there, and swimming lessons in their pool.

noblegiraffe · 16/06/2021 21:51

DS cried for a week about SATs being cancelled...possibly the only child to. But he'd been working towards them for years, he was genuinely upset.

DanglingMod · 16/06/2021 22:00

I have a number of friends with year 6s last year and they all and without exception said they were more upset about the cancelled SATs than any of the end of school activities (the children, not the parents)...

I would have been that child. Dd1 would probably been the same. Dd2 is not fussed about sats, she'd have been quite happy to sit them but equally happy not to. It's the social, "treat" stuff she's relieved not to have to do, because that stuff is not a treat to her, it's more like torture.
Piggywaspushed · 16/06/2021 22:03

We are STILL doing our 30 person year 12 transfer week.

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/06/2021 22:04

DD also Y6 seems to just shrug it all off. She’s never visited her secondary she’s going to. I suspect transition day might be cancelled in our area unless we teach/set work for the secondary students remotely and allow the Y6s in? At least her school has a summer school I hope would run at the end of august… it’s funny how they are all different and how many of us have Y6s here!

Piggywaspushed · 16/06/2021 22:05

300, not 30!!!!!!!!!!!!

MsAwesomeDragon · 16/06/2021 22:05

OMG piggy that's insane!!! How on earth are the powers that be justifying that? I mean, it doesn't surprise me with your school, but it really is the worst idea I've heard today (and today has been a day for bad ideas)

TheHoneyBadger · 16/06/2021 22:07

Futile whine: why can’t we be nice and supportive of each other? It was so transparent that the hod was all appreciative and understanding suddenly. Sometimes I think people are seriously lacking

CallmeHendricks · 16/06/2021 22:08

@Piggywaspushed

You won't be surprised to hear that these mobile testing units create huge workload for the school. No army helpers or NHS admin. All admin staff and random uni students are being roped in.
What, no Kevin's mum? There was one of those mouthing off on one of these threads back at Christmas, saying how easy it was to get volunteers and it was all running beautifully smoothly. Where is your 'can do, where there's a will there's a way' attitude, Piggy?

I often wonder that. It's actually easy to make people feel valued.
Piggywaspushed · 16/06/2021 22:20

Oh I have indeed provided my child ange as a helper God help them all

Piggywaspushed · 16/06/2021 22:20

Well, I feel oddly proud Mrs AD!

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/06/2021 22:31

And in your B area, piggy!!

Apparently our SLT are hoping that restrictions will be withdrawn on 19th so that Y7 can experience a week of moving round school for lessons....

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/06/2021 22:33

This does seem to just mean Y7 although am not sure he it can be...

What do we think: will DfE really withdraw all bubble guidance if Step Four happens on 19 July?

MrsHamlet · 16/06/2021 22:42

We finish on the 16th. I wonder if they think that's true of all schools.

thecatfromjapan · 16/06/2021 23:02

I have varifocals, noble. I've decided they're exciting and nothing to do with getting old.

HoneyBadger I'm glad the NQT has you around.

Noble - I'm sad to hear your little one's upset but it's lovely he's conscientious. Bless him.

I think my offspring are just incredibly relieved they've made it to the finish line. Stress levels in our house have now dropped enormously. Thank goodness.

motherrunner · 17/06/2021 06:13

We finish on the 16th too. Inset the following Mon and Tues but have done twilights. I booked our holiday for the 17th July - totally forgetting the DCs don’t break up until the 21st. Oh well!

cornercupboard · 17/06/2021 06:24

Our deputy head said that the restrictions need to be lifted on 19th so that she can organise our whole-school end of year staff pissup...

If we remove all play zones and bubbles for the last 3 days of term (we are in until 21st) and someone causes me to self-isolate for the first 10 days of the holidays, I will be livid.

I had a bunch of kids upset at this last year. We ended up doing remote "fun" SATs in stuff like P.E., Art, riddles and chocolate 😂

This year, we've just done our own assessment week a couple of weeks after the usually SATs would have been so they got a similar experience. We needed the data for their secondaries anyway.

borntobequiet · 17/06/2021 06:50

I gave up on varifocals because they weren’t vari enough to go from computer screen to paper to the back of the class, so I fell back on having my glasses on my face, on the top of my head, on my desk, on top of the filing cabinet or randomly round the classroom - “Right. Where have I left my glasses now?”
