You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Go out for a walk, name. No point in bashing your head against a wall. You need some time away from it.

MrsHamlet · 05/06/2021 20:42

noble is right.

JanFebAnyMonth · 05/06/2021 20:52

I’m guessing my secondhand Garmin doesn’t do special fireworks for a streak noble..... altho maybe I could check. That would motivate me, yes!

Carrie’s going to the G7 instead of Boris??

namechangedyetagain · 05/06/2021 20:56

It's been constant for the last 2 days. Have a month left but almost nothing left to give. I'm exhausted. But I have to keep going. I do worry if I'll ever manage to teach though if I'm this knackered with one term to go...

MrsHamlet · 05/06/2021 21:02

The PGCE is particularly draining. Much less "evidencing" next year...

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 05/06/2021 21:36

I remember the last month of GTP, it was fricking bonkers. I had 13 folders of evidence all across my living room floor, all-nighters for planning. A colleague sent me a 'just keep swimming' card.

MrsHamlet · 05/06/2021 21:48

Good God, Rule -13 folders?????

WhenSheWasBad · 05/06/2021 22:34

13 folders?

That’s inhuman. I only had one folder and that was a massive pain in the ass to sort out.

NQT year seems to far similar on the evidence front. Although still more evidence gathering than I would like (but then I would like none).

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 05/06/2021 22:46

Yep, was stupid. These days it would all be online, wouldn't it.

TheHoneyBadger · 05/06/2021 22:47

I worry how dim people are. I’d rather believe they had an agenda, albeit not sold particularly well, than think they were that dim yet that arrogant simultaneously Confused

Need to step away from out there.

MrsHamlet · 05/06/2021 23:05

I feel like Bob has called all his friends out tonight for a grunt-off. It's batshit.

Daily Mail reporting that Gav is going to be shuffled out and Sajid Javid is going to be shuffled in.

"His allies say this reputation as a master of the dark arts has counted against him ahead of the reshuffle"

Master of the dark arts??!!

Appuskidu · 06/06/2021 00:01

Master of the dark arts?!

Ye Gods Grin

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 06/06/2021 00:09

Hahahaha. As partner just said, what a total c-bomb.

thecatfromjapan · 06/06/2021 01:24

We're you at the IoE, Rafa?

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 06/06/2021 02:34

Why am I still up? This is stupid. I have crazy heartburn, but I'm wondering if I'm anxious about work too - I went to a family bbq today and people kept asking me about school.

borntobequiet · 06/06/2021 07:54

Daily Mail reporting that Gav is going to be shuffled out and Sajid Javid is going to be shuffled in.

If so he’ll be the first Ed Sec with a genuine interest in FE. He’s also reasonably competent and isn’t into whips and spiders (as far as I know) so three cheers from me. Though TBH replacing Gav with a broomstick would be an improvement.

borntobequiet · 06/06/2021 07:57

And I like this:
A source close to Mr Williamson said: ‘Gavin categorically denies using an offensive term to discuss Carrie, and he categorically denies threatening the Prime Minister. Reshuffle talk is pure speculation.’

So all true then.

KatherineOfGaunt · 06/06/2021 08:22

@thecatfromjapan

I was! I think I had 4 folders, or was it 5? And I had to cross reference, so a lesson plan evaluation in one folder would point you to a child's progress evaluation or selection of evidence in a different folder. Nightmare.
Piggywaspushed · 06/06/2021 08:49

Oh, I remember people's optimism about Gav when he was appointed born because his wife was a teacher! I don't trust any of them with education.

Iamnotthe1 · 06/06/2021 08:51

So that's what it takes then. You can preside over a cacophony of errors, make poor decisions and display an extraordinary level of negligence and still keep your job. But insulting the now wife of the prime minister... no, that's way too far!

Isn't a comment about Carrie the same thing that got Cummings in the end?

namechangedyetagain · 06/06/2021 08:51

Well I stayed up working until midnight folder is in some kind of order to be looked at midweek before a final push on it next weekend. Just the one folder thankfully, not 13 😮

Just a small matter of planning an English block (instruction writing) and maths and phonics for the next 2 weeks today. Oh and sort out my own kids for school, food shop and boring life stuff live that.

No idea how I'm going to get through the next few weeks. And breathe....

ChloeDecker · 06/06/2021 08:55

You will get through it name - it will just seem like a blur while you are doing it! One day at a time and try to just focus on the key things that are needed each day (easier said than done I know!)

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 06/06/2021 09:02

Just a small matter of planning an English block (instruction writing)

Easiest one. Get them to follow some crap instructions to do origami or something, then get them to make them better. Look at organisational features - imperative verbs etc. Do a lesson where they write instructions for you to make a jam sandwich - you follow the instructions. Carnage.

I've got to plan a narrative unit today, so I've got my writing hat on. Ours is all about vocab and sentence structure for our lot, as always.

Very good for talking about algorithms too this one!
