You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Do you think I could claim a positive test in order to avoid sports day?

And if Bob had the question paper in advance and the mark scheme he still wouldn’t get a level 5 because ‘too much writing innit’

Yeah tbf you could give ds the perfect answers and he wouldn’t bother reading them.

Just lugged books back and forth to school. Best actually mark them given that work out. It’s really humid and overcast but not managing to rain here 🥵

ChloeDecker · 04/06/2021 15:21

We used some Nov 2020 questions and we had a few who obviously got the Mark scheme from somewhere, probably private tutors - don’t get me started on them - and write the Mark scheme word for word, including answers that actually made no sense (think, instead of putting an actual number as the question asked for, wrote something like “any number < 0” as that was written in the Mark scheme. We have dealt with these candidates fairly as a school by the way.

This is the exam boards’ fault for making public questions that were still under padlock.

Sorry to hear about Egypt being on the red list. It is hard to find a list of exceptions if one exists--I want to attend the funeral of a close family member which my family is planning for the summer holidays but I'm not sure if I can go at this point. Hoping the US gets put on the green list but having looked for exceptions the gov website is as clear as mud. Maybe Egypt will be upgraded to amber at the next review?

MrsHamlet · 04/06/2021 15:36

@Cantaloupeisland

Please god say we don't have a sports day!
We need one. The PE dept have done fuck all since March 2020.
noblegiraffe · 04/06/2021 15:43

If anyone wants to talk covid and schools (I don't think people do, but the offer is there)

Appuskidu · 04/06/2021 15:58

Ahh, here you are!

Hope everyone is having a good half term-pissing it down out here today which is annoying, still I suppose at least the garden will be happy!

@Beachhuts90 am slightly concerned about what goes on in your family if you’re planning a funeral for the summer holidays.... unless you mean a memorial service? (I know, slightly different cultures and languages!)

But sympathies if you’ve recently had a relative die. Or maybe there is an expected death, in which case I apologise for my inappropriate attempt at a joke.

😂😂😂😂😂

Beachhuts90 · 04/06/2021 16:03

@janfebanymonth I guess it is technically a memorial but there was not a funeral when she died in April, it's been pushed back a few months because things are just opening up again now including places that might be appropriate (non religious and expected to be big).

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/06/2021 16:11

Ah OK gotcha @Beachhuts90. I think technically a funeral has to be immediately before, or occasionally after, a burial cremation. But I understand what you mean. We could probably do with a new term in these strange times actually.

So technically this will be a funeral by that term, because she has been cremated, but her ashes are to be buried where my grandfather's ashes are buried, so although it's months after the cremation there will still be a burial aspect to it. The whole thing is a shit show honestly, thanks to covid.
TheHoneyBadger · 04/06/2021 16:19

I hope so Beach but shan't hold my breath. It was amber till just the other day and I can't see any reason or justification for the change anywhere. It's also odd for mainland Egypt and the south sinai protectorate to be treated the same - for example they have totally different levels of 'safe'ness assigned to them in foreign office advice re: terrorism.

Egyptian friends and forums already seeing it as a personal attack yet again by the UK (still smarting at them banning flights for so long after the Russian flight went down) and feeling angry at the UK.

The green list is a joke and the reality is that the wealthy can still go anywhere they like because they can afford to do 10 day stopovers elsewhere (my sister just did ten days in maldives between uk and Saudi) or pay £1500+ for hotel quarantine. How does it even need to be that price when hotels must be desperate for trade not needing to charge triple their usual rates? No one even asked them why they were traveling to Maldives when it was supposed to be essential travel only - first class tickets and willingness to book tests was all that was required.

Anyway I don't want to be accused of being another 'heartbroken holiday maker' bleating on.

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/06/2021 16:21

ONS weekly report estimates that 0.5% of secondary children have Covid currently......

noblegiraffe · 04/06/2021 16:23

Yep, Jan but not evenly spread across the country so in hard hit areas is going to be way higher.

My new thread seems to have irked some people merely by existing.

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/06/2021 16:27

So we’d call that an interment beach, is that term used in the US? But as you say, everything’s messed up anyway! We’re hoping to have something similar to what you describe for my brother, but goodness knows when, if we want his fellow residents to be able to attend, they're all ECV.

honey you’re a concerned householder not a bleating holiday maker! Interesting about possible political background to the redlisting.

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/06/2021 16:28

Yes noble, I think things are going to get pretty nasty on MN again for the next few weeks/months.

Piggywaspushed · 04/06/2021 16:34

There are definitely more anxieties again now. And note how Ofsted's announcement has brought out some bashers and renewed concern about school closures because of cancelled holidays and case rises. Because that's totally us wanting to sack off work.

DreamingofBrie · 04/06/2021 16:46

Thanks for the new thread, Staff.

Your new thread has upset people very quickly, noble. I'm reading with interest.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/06/2021 16:46

Normal MN: Ignore whatever Ofsted say. They don’t know about schools and inadequate os pretty much the same as outstanding anyway.

Ofsted: year 11 shouldn’t have left school early.

Covid board MN: totally agree with Ofsted. Feckless teachers destroying our children’s futures.

RigaBalsam · 04/06/2021 16:50

Thanks staff

Yeah, who ARE you, Noble? I think we should be told.
It's as if we've gone back in time with that thread.

noblegiraffe · 04/06/2021 16:52

Yes, who am I really???!

Dangling would say “an English teacher!” Grin

It really has pissed people off. They see your user name and the red mist descends and stops them being able to read. Such a shame for them.
