You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Night all - hopefully we won’t need the Broom Cupboard until daylight..... ☀️

DreamingofBrie · 13/06/2021 23:58

Commiserations on the job, wine, sorry to hear about that. I hope something better comes up soon.

And congratulations to MrsH and Namechanged on your successes.

I've been hanging out on the FWR boards lately, as well as lurking on this thread. I'm glad I had my dc before I switched to teaching - we always joke I wouldn't have had 3 without my company's extremely generous maternity package. They did get 15 years out of me though. Loved taking the full year off with all three, although working full time with a 1, 3 and 5 year old was all shades of hell sometimes.

I can almost touch the end of term - not too much teaching this week because of internal exams, then I just need to get reports out of the way this week and figure out how to keep the kids on track in the remaining few weeks.

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/06/2021 06:01

Congratulations @MrsHamlet that’s essentially what I do but we call it something different at my school now - you’ll be ace, especially as you do it anyway!

@noblegiraffe yeah all the questions! Are you taking on the pure or applied? Have you got access to the giant A-level google drive already?

MsAwesomeDragon · 14/06/2021 06:14

What's the giant A Level Google drive MrsHP?

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/06/2021 06:22

Messaged you @MsAwesomeDragon!

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/06/2021 06:24

And you @noblegiraffe with the link.

Iamnotthe1 · 14/06/2021 06:49

So do we think Boris will admit tonight that the delay is so that further unlocking doesn't happen until schools are winding up for the year? Or will he continue to pretend that schools make absolutely no difference at all?

DreamingofBrie · 14/06/2021 06:55

@MrsHerculePoirot, may I have the link to the Google drive too?

Its90minutestonight · 14/06/2021 07:05

I bet he doesn't mention schools at all.

Teacher training applications back to pre-pandemic levels amid reports that people who did train to teach this year are now looking for work in other industries.

My DD, offered a place to train (Science) starting in September, found a new job in sales which she enjoys (in a sector enjoying a Covid related boom) and which offers career progression, so declined. She said she might reapply next year if the current job doesn’t come up to expectations, but it’s looking increasingly unlikely.
Hope you all have a good week. I’m putting off any engagement with education until infection levels in school aged children drop and am filling my time volunteering in one way or another.

JanFebAnyMonth · 14/06/2021 08:54

I did read one article yesterday in which some source (but can’t remember if i it was govt or scientific) listed the second reason for delaying step 4, after vaccines, as because it would take us to end of school year so less mixing there, plus parents more likely to be off work.

borntobequiet · 14/06/2021 08:57

it would take us to end of school year so less mixing there

Amazing they didn’t think of that in the first place. Or perhaps not.

BMJ blog in which Gurdasani, Reicher et al call for masks and ventilation, and release of data, in /on schools

Morning - once more unto the breach...

Yes, I think I just want people to do their job and I hate being dependent on people who aren't 'on it' iyswim.

Still bloody hot - going to be Miss HotFlush in school today I think.

noblegiraffe · 14/06/2021 09:36

Thanks MrsHP that link is great! I’m doing pure and mechanics.

Was listening to radio 4 this morning, they had a guy on talking about why they need to extend restrictions, vaccinations etc. Then he was asked about whether the school holidays would help, he started talking about schools and suddenly disappeared. Oh dear we seem to have lost him said the interviewer but never mind, we got the gist.

JanFebAnyMonth · 14/06/2021 10:04

Woo @noblegiraffe

DreamingofBrie · 14/06/2021 10:12

Thanks for the link MrsHP! I'm teaching CP1 and FS1 next year and think I'll be doing the exercises from the textbook over the summer Sad.

Moved my 2nd jab forward by a couple of weeks yesterday.

Piggywaspushed · 14/06/2021 11:17

We are getting mobile testing units this week!

JanFebAnyMonth · 14/06/2021 11:47

The excitement, piggy! (Kinda....) 💐

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/06/2021 12:33

I do D1 and FS1 and have dabbled in the odd pure unit many moons ago! Mechanics NOT my bag at all 🤣 between us sounds like we’ve got the modules covered for our dream school though!

We’re moving back to testing on site because not enough kids doing the tests and reporting them to schools in our borough.

SarahLou67 · 14/06/2021 12:43

It’s not just Government that drift about as if there isn’t a problem in schools, it’s school leadership too!! Last week all adults in my town were urged to get PCR tests due to Delta spreading like wildfire. Sports Day with phase bubbles and parent spectators all going ahead as planned. Appreciate our doors is lower the risk but it’s still encouraging 60 -80 adults to mingle. Would the message not be to stop any events like that? Maybe they will after Johnson’s official statement. It’s sad for the kids not to have these things with their parents watching, even sadder if they and there peers become sick.

JanFebAnyMonth · 14/06/2021 13:07

Absolutely @SarahLou67! Delta thought to be 40% more transmissible outside!

Mrs HP, remind us whereabouts you are?

JanFebAnyMonth · 14/06/2021 13:08

Off to Broom Cupboard now
